Mounted an NV5 Silencer on my 6800gt today.
It does blow out the back(some have had experiences with it sucking)

I put my vantec fan card 2 slots below it and left the pci case slot below the fan card open.
Now it sucks air in from the back of the case and blows it on the nv5, which then exhausts it.

temps at stock clock speed idle where 34 amb and 55 gpu, now they are 30 and 50
temps at stock clock speed full load where around xx amb and 76 max, now they are 35 and 58

I lapped the gpu as well as the memory sinks and used AS5

I will up date this thread with overclocked temps, as well as temps/max speed with 1.4 volt mod

Definately worth the money for a gt or standard, probably close to the same cooling for an ultra, but it does run super quiet as well

1.4v
433 gpu / 1100 memory stable

idle temp 33 / 53
load temp 42 / 68

3dmark05 5510

1150ish seems to be the limit of these samsung memory chips

Running at a stable 425 was my goal, I think I'll stop here

Why do people keep buying silencers when you hear all the horror stories about their clips breaking all the time... I would worry about them giving out to stress over time and falling off the card.

they dont want to hear the fan. i bought some senheiser headphones that isolate me so well that someone could shot a shotgun off behind me and i would never hear it

People break the screws because they feel they have to tighten them all the way, or don't tighten them evenly

they give you very thick rubber washers with the nv5, not for ensuring no contact with the pcb, they could give you a thin washer for that,
the instructions say tighten untill the rubber washers slightly compress, I would take that as soon as I see the rubber buldge, stop turning

the studs with the silencer seem to be the same diameter as the ones on my stock cooler,

Granted I haven't broke mine, for those who have, would it be possible to remove the plastic body of the cooler at which point you could press out the studs with a vice and then insert stainless bolts of the same diameter?

Yeah, you just have to be slow and careful when you tighten them. I tightened mine down most of the way by hand, and then gave em a quick 1/4 to 1/2 turn with a screwdriver to make sure they were secure. If you tighten them down all the way that they will go, you can actually bend the card, so you probably shouldn't do that. As with anything else with PC hardware, you just have to be careful and take your time.

Thank god...I was gonna say, like the other guy..."WTF, he lapped the GPU??"

I thought they said they wre fixxing that? I heard it all the time when the silencers first came out I havn't heard it lately.

I am not sure how people are getting improved idle temps with this thing though. I just got mine last night an I have taken the thing off and messed with it so many times its not funny.

I am consistantly getting temps 2-3C ABOVE what my stock cooler gave me. I have 55C with the stock cooler and with the NV5 Its ussually 57-58 C it is quite annoying. It does seem a little bit better on load temps.

Also the auto detect OC tool gives me a slightly lower clocks. It gives me 420/1140 instead of the normal 423/1140 which makes sense for the slightly highier temps. The ambient temps are ussually 34-35 for both stock and the silencer.

I have checked multiple times to see if the core is even and it is... It makes a perfect little rectangle AS5 mark on the heatsink... How much AS5 or other compound are you putting on your RAM chips? lots or just a thin layer.

I have a Rev.2 on my 9800 Pro, but when I screwed the thing down the brace wasn't entirely level... It's been running well for quite a while now, though. Should I be worried at all?

the ram chips have a small amount of space when the gpu is tight,
I put as5 in small amounts on the gpu and quite a think blob on each mem chip, after i finished tightening the excess as5 pushed to the edge of the mem chips, it wasn't very much

maybe you have not enuf intake pressure in your case, and your nv5 can't blow out the back properly?

take a small thin strip of kleenex and hold one end of it above the nv5 exhaust port when the system is running, see how much pressure you have there
you should have quite a bit
if it is barely fluttering then that is your problem

I have since fixxed my problem. The heat sink on the voltage regulators was touching the card causing itto mount un evenly. I just had to loosen one of the screws a bit on that side and it has dropped my temps about 7 degree's to 50C on idle (47C right now though, VT is a little chily) . So turns out it wasn't even on the core. The thing that sucks it now the card doesn't auto OC as high any more. Not sure why that is :( Not a big deal though I don't ussually run highier than 400/1100.
