NTSB seeks nationwide ban on driver use of personal electronic devices

The solution is easy...

Ban automatic transmissions on all new cars.
If you have to fiddle with the clutch and stick shift most people won't have the hands or presence of mind to also text (unless going a relatively constant speed with few direction changes).

Also, very bad/stupid drivers would no longer be able to drive AT ALL, further decreasing road fatalities.

but if using a phone causes you to drive like a douche(I'm not arguing that it does, or that does so at a rate high enough to police), then it's common sense that you would prevent using a phone in the first place.

No, that actually does not make sense. It makes no sense to punish someone for a victimless "crime". Talking on the telephone is not a crime. Swerving all over the road, blowing through stop signs, etc. are crimes.

Fine...

....just so long as the NTSB also remove all electronics from all official vehicles, as well. Including the laptops, and laser/radar guns, and radios from patrol cars.

Heh, can't tell you how many times I see police using a cell phone while driving here in California where that is illegal - at least for us commoners.

Oh wait, there is an exception for public employees. Silly me.

you're right. that's why I'm allowed to do drugs and buy prostitutes, as long as i'm not harming anyone. letting people drive recklessly is more dangerous

Letting children watch TV is probably far more "dangerous" and costly (in terms of childhood obesity) so lets outlaw that.

No one under 18 can watch TV!

I'm tired of the government making new laws.
They always break things. They NEVER fix anything. Personal devices? So GPS is out?
