NRA sues FL over enacting Senate bill 7026 (new gun law)

not surprising. for better or worse, i think they have a good chance of winning. raising the age for ownership isn't a ban, but i imagine their argument will be along the lines of "you can vote at 18 and have every other right, so why can't you own a firearm [exercise another right]?"

Then why is it legal to restrict, federally--not per state edict, alcohol sales to those 21 and above? Or how is it legal for states to set their own minimum age limit for buying tobacco/cigarettes. Don't see how they can square that with their argument.

Unions protect bad workers, gun rights organizations oppose sensible gun control measures, and the ACLU represents nazis in free speech lawsuits. That's just how it is when whatever organization declares itself all-in on a particular issue.

Drinking alcohol isn’t a right listed in the constitution.

Maybe because it's not a right to drink booze or smoke tobacco?

Nor is the age to buy a gun... That right was never established. The fact that there already is an age limit leads me to believe raising it or lowering it would not give the NRA grounds to sue.

EDIT See this was already addressed.

The NRA has evolved into a terrorist group plain and simple.
They need to be shut down just as was the KKK, the MAFIA, and every other anti American terrorist group.
The NRA no longer is just some organization for gun owners to join, as AARP is with senior citizens.
The NRA has evolved.
Even though AAPR too tries to strong arm politicians from time to time, the difference here is the NRA uses terrorist tactics to strong arm and get their way. The NRA never takes no for an answer. NEVER!

The NRA actually believes THEY ARE the second amendment.
They believe they alone have the god given right to interpret the constitution and actually re-redefine it.
And all of this for total power, total control, and massive monetary gain.
The guns have little to do with it, or them.

The NRA as it stands today needs to be shut down, and it can be with companies refusing to support the terroristic tactics, and for members to drop membership, and for politicians to stop being afraid.
The discussion needs to be redirected where politicians that support the NRA and candidates supported by the NRA become the bad guys. The voters need to vote for the non NRA candidate. The anti NRA candidate.
I think this is very do-able with leadership coming from the youth of today.
The youth of America leading the way, just as they did to force gun reforms in Florida.
The youth, who are losing their lives in the classrooms and on the streets from assault weapons.

The NRA is not as it appears. Oh no, not any more....
Even their name no longer applies.
N-ational R-ifle A-ssociation?
Better defined as the NAWADMA.
N-ational A-ssault W-eapon A-nd D-eath M-achines A-ssociation.
Just pretend they are some Islamic terrorist group operating within America.
Operating against the lives of your sons and daughters.
THAT would shut them down in a New York minute.
And they need to be shut down considering what they have become.
Every member should be ashamed to carry the card. Ashamed to support their terrorist tactics. Ashamed of their role in the mass killings taking place in America.
The NRA must go!

Good luck with that.

I actually have no issue with raising the age to 21 to purchase a rifle. It is already 21 to purchase a handgun correct?

Bump stocks should have never been allowed to begin with IMO.

3 day waiting period is no big deal either. Neither would a week or so.

I see nothing in this bill I am opposed to. I don't think the NRA will win this.

Sure, but it’s pretty disingenuous to suggest that a constitutional right and drinking booze are equivalent.

You don't feel it's sincere?

As Meghan points out, the 18th and 21st amendments are about legal status of alocohol. 21st left prohibition on the table for states to decide.

Next.

I support the NRA, but I don't think they should go after this petty shit. I mean FFS, when your 18 your brain isn't even fully developed.

But on the other hand you can carry a gun into combat. But you're trained on its use though.

In the way you are stating it, that is false information. The human brain is fully developed by 10~12 year age range. If brute forced the Neural Nets in "children" by the age of 14~15 can be indistinguishable to better than "adults" 25 and above.

Brute forced in this context is any adequate education paid by the government.

NRA should throw down the whole ageist gun control laws. War and tyranny doesn't care if you are kid or not.

//Fully developed brains;
Female -> 11 years (avg)
Male -> 12 years (avg)

People lose their brain matter the longer they live. So to get around this the human brain makes more efficient connections. This is what is called "maturity" a fully mature brain is a pretty efficient. Overall, it is a lossy process as the information connections are being lossed. Implying, if one educates a human by 10-12, they'll be better thinkers than most adults. Most adults being those who didn't go through the faster educational track.

Further, training and experience can be used to induce "maturity" much earlier on than 25 years and up. So, fully developed by 12 years and fully mature by 15 years is possible.

Personally, I'd rather see more thorough background checks, where even a few days is likely not enough, and more focus on mental health. Im not a fan of 21 being required for adult type activities, yet military enrollment is 18, voting is 18, etc...
