you could make a flash application and build the streaming into that, then it would be behatch hard to save it

That's a good idea... I think you'd have quality issues.. but Flash sound quality is pretty good really....

You could make it look like an old timey radio :)

Good job by you.

Looks like there is no point in me running this then... to bad I can't put it at work on the OC-3 :)

I found out the streaming is illegal too! Ack! When it comes to files sharing I have pretty much decided that it is not right. I am still iffy on the streaming though. Again, I think it is going to have to be shut down :(
If want to broaden peoples music horizons but it looks like that is not allowed... I am proud of my music collection but the only person that is allowed to enjoy it is me for some reason.

Shockwave1, I am hope you are serious :). After watching so many threads with people asking others on this forum where they learned about those cool bads that no one has heard, I figured there's got to be other ways of getting it out... What bands did you like that you are considering buying the CD?

I'll keep it up while I dwell over my decision.

Were it not for mp3s I would have never heard some of my favorite music. Dream Theater, Megadeath, Ozzy, Led Zeppelin, Coco Montoya, etc. It may be illegal, but it's not immoral.

If you have the extra space for the files, downsampling would help out with your bandwidth problem too. Especially if you were using pretty high bitrates. ;)

mp3 is just a format... pieces of paper can contain child porn, but it doesn't make the paper illegal. Most of the stuff I got into was from word of mouth and demos. Uncut is a great magazine to get if you want
to get into some good music... their sampler CD is awesome!

This is a tricky situation I guess... I want to share the wealth without giving anything to anyone :). This server is killing my net connection though, I might try to throttle the bandwidth to 40KB/s so I can have 20KB/s for my usual net activity... or I will resrict the hours.

I am pissed that this is illegal though. What if I was playing my music in my truck really loud so the whole neighborhood can hear it? It's not like I am making money off of this.

ObiDon - Yeah... it was just easier this way because I already have my collection made. I am thinking of redoing my mp3 collection in 2 passes now. One is my copies for personal use and 92k or 64k copies for streaming. It would take me months to do and another HD but I think it would be a fun project. Too bad school has started and is going to be sucking up all my time.

Yeah, sorry, I meant illegal mp3s introduced me to those bands. Ones that I dowloaded without the copyright holder's permission :)

Who is listening to Badly Drawn Boy :)

I found out that I might be able to put this server on my works OC-3! One of my bosses wants me to put together a 4u rackmount server with 400GB of HD space so that she can let her friends access movies and stuff... I am sure I can be allowed 50GB for my music :)

I also think the usage of this will die down when this thread drops.

chiwawa626 - No offense but if you can't find anything you like in that collection you have very narrow music tastes :)

wfbberzerker - I will be seeing him on Nov. 1 when he comes to Vancouver :), I am looking forward to it.

Sounded like a great idea Mucman, sucks that it isn't working out. Out of curiousity, how much music do you have? I'm on dial up and I can imagine it would take me forever to get the list.
