While in lived in Korea, I encountered this a few times. Once I was invited to a friend's place in a small apartment complex; the windows were open. Suddenly in the middle of dinner, the couple next door starts screaming. The husband is raving drunk, and it sounded like he was beating his wife, because she was yelling and crying. Then their daughter started crying because she was viewing the whole thing. We didn't know what to do, partially out of fear. If this guy is crazy enough/drunk enough to beat his wife, what could he do to us? That and we were Americans who couldn't speak Korean. It makes one feel quite awkward. Eventually he stopped beating her but there was much emotional tension left.

The OP did the right thing, something I wish I could have done.

If you looked out the window and saw a thug robbing someone, would you call the cops? Well, you should. This is no different. If she is being abused, it doesn't matter if it's a boyfriend or husband, the cops need to get involved.

You won't get any notification or other information. The cops will simply say that there's been reports of a 'disturbance' and that they are investigating. If they have proper cause to think there's abuse going on, they could haul his butt off to jail to cool off for a while.

No they will not inform you however if you ask for a report number you can pay to get a copy usually.

Don't need to pay for a copy of the report, since you were a part of the report it's free for you. Legally it's also in the public domain, watch your back.

Not here.
I pay for a police report where I am the caller at least once a week. He is not directly involved and public domain doesn't mean you don't pay for copies..............

You can use the your best judgement and have the best intentions but any scenario can turn bad. Thats the downfall of getting involved in any personal matter unless it directly involves you. All one can do is what they feel is right at any given moment.

If someone was murdered you might have a detective stop by to ask questions in a few days, But they won't GIVE you any information since it's none of your business.

Domestic violence calls are generally the most dangerous calls that police are dispatched to. This is because the offenders don't leave (in a robbery/burglary, the goal of the offenders is to get the hell out of there) and the offenders are usually ready for a fight. They often turn unpredictable.

It's technically a FOIA request so the police department can charge a reasonable fee for duplication, redaction and processing.
