Now that Apple has officially angered me ...

The whole screen (or a large chunk) will be the fingerprint reader.
That sound awfully expensive. What that would entail would be to make the entire screen (or a large chunk) a high resolution scanner. That would be revolutionary. Think of the possibilities. However, my logical and practical side tells me this won't happen any time soon. If it gets built into the screen, it'd be a small portion.

Actually it's a sonic technology that we have seen before:

That just says the technology exists. It doesn't say it would be cheap to cover the entire screen.

So again, that sounds very expensive to cover the whole screen (or a large chunk), so I'd expect it'd only cover a small part.
The iPhone is not a cheap phone. I am confident that they can incorporate the fingerprint reader into the screen within the budget of the device and still rape their customers with high profit margins.

I could see them keeping say the bottom bezel and the whole strip of bezel is a fingerprint reader.

I listen to a ton of music on my phone, probably like 10x as much as any person on here. And I've literally never been charging my phone while I've had headphones plugged in. Seems like a thing for people to get up in arms with just to have something to bitch about. Serious question, does anyone here actually listen to music with wired headphones while they're charging their phone?

I don't care one way or the other here, I have 3 pairs of Bluetooth headphones, the Sennheiser Momentum's sound AMAZING. I can't remember the last time I used wired headphones outside of on my computer. BT headphone use to suck no doubt, but a lot of the newer ones sound fantastic. I could bring up Coby wired headphones you buy at K-Mart to prove that wired headphone sound like shit. Listen to some BT 4.0 cans to base your judgement off of.

I have 2.1 speakers next to my bed, and my phone charges and uses the phone jack at the same time.

btw, if that 5 hour figure for bt headphones is accurate, that's a joke. I routinely listen to music for more than 5 hours, and I'm only limited to my main battery life. As it happens, I'd rather listen to the tinny onboard speaker cause I don't like things in/over my ears, but I'm sure I'm in the minority in that regard.

The 5-hour figure is pretty good for Bluetooth earbuds that size, in this generation. The Jaybird Freedom, one of the best compact wireless headsets you can get right now, lasts 4 hours unless you clip its charging cradle on to the remote.

With that said: it's still early. We really need another generation or two of hardware before Bluetooth headphones can replace the wired kind in a truly broad range of situations (that is, not just running or commuting) without being bulky.

Exactly the same here, hate stuff over/in my ears, I have a half dozen BT speakers.

I've been reduced to that on long train journeys now that I cant just swap the battery out on my phone. 🙁
Last thing I want is to get to my destination with a quarter of my battery left.

Isn't Bluetooth pretty lossy for music? Things like Apt-X kinda mitigate that but its never going to be as good as a wired headset. And its a lot more expensive for that lesser sound quality.

What about plugging in your phone to your car? Tons of people still use the auxiliary port to connect their phone. Or a sound system that doesn't have Bluetooth. It's not only headphones.

Yeah two main problems with BT. I don't care if it sounds pretty good now. Dollar for dollar Bluetooth loses right now. Also there is a definite ceiling on Bluetooth SQ. Last I checked the Momentums are the best for BT (and look good too) but still sound worse than any respectable wired headphone in that price range. With that said, I don't know that you can squeeze any better sound out of BT audio currently than what the Momentums can do but you can certainly get better on the wired side.

And this all ignores another problem with BT headsets. You've got to charge them.

I suppose Apple would counter with the better 14 hour battery life of the 7 this year. That's one of their rationale for one USB-c port on the Macbook

.

I mostly use BT headphones when out and about as I hate the wire, but In the car I connect via the headphone jack to AUX-IN and charge the phone at the same time, the GPS kills the battery pretty fast if I don't.
Also I would always prefur to arrive at my destination with as much charge as possible.

Absolutely yes. I drive long distances to get to customer sites and have had an earbud in while charging my phone as I go. Also, if I get back to my office after being out for a while and my device is less than 50% charged I will plug the phone in by USB to my computer and listen to music or podcasts via wired earbuds. It is a thing that people do whether you do it or not.

And this, too. My wife's car only has an Aux in port, no BT. If we go on a long drive I need power and Aux both at the same time.

I'm surprised by the amount of responses on this thread in regards to using iPhones in cars with AUX. BT transceivers with A2DP can come @$20-30, with some giving pretty good sound quality. I just plug my phone in, hang it on my magnetic dock, and BT connect, which is nice as anyone in my car can connect to that transceiver and play their music if they want (kids, wife, friends)

Edit: the convenience of not having to go through AUX cables alone is well worth it. I think I burnt through 3 AUX cables before I bought my BT. Now I have hands free and don't need to plug anything in my "dumb" car

Yes, while driving using phone as GPS + music play via AUX.

I just wish they would get around to supporting wireless charging. Dropping it in the dock and having it charge without having to do anything would be great.
