Yeah, they're a lot cheaper in NY than in Cali..I heard some advertisements on the radio from the bay area, they had 12-15 foot trees for $500.

15 foot :Q thats huge

if you have a house thats big enough for a 15foot tree you can afford to pay 500$ for it

free mine is at the NY State Capital.

LT. GOVERNOR DONOHUE TO WELCOME HOLIDAY SEASON TO CAPITAL REGION 2004 Holiday Tree Lighting and Fireworks Festival Sunday, December 5th
Lt. Governor Mary Donohue will kick-off another festive holiday season in New York State on Sunday, December 5th at the 2004 Holiday Tree Lighting and Fireworks Festival. This holiday tradition will take place at the Empire State Plaza at the north end of the Plaza near the State Capitol. The festivities will get underway at 2:00pm, with activities inside and out, commencing with the official lighting of the trees at 5:15 pm, followed by a spectacular fireworks show.

$30 for my 4' fake tree. I'm probably going to throw it out at the end of the season, though... what I really wanted was a 7' prelit white tree, but they were sold out. just gotta remember to shop earlier next year 🙂

$30, unwanted tree = disposable. heh. knowing me and my roommate, though, we won't even start to think of taking it down until July, so at least we'll get some use out of it.

Yep, same here, but probably only $5 for the gas. It'll likely be a butt-ugly tree compared to a commercial one, but alot more fun!

All it takes is a room with cathedral ceilings... we have a 15+ foot tree picked out. If we get our new house before xmas, it'll be our tree this year (and it's on the property of that house, so it'll be free) Otherwise, most of the xmas tree places charge around $10 to cut your own tree. Some are $15. That's regardless of the size of the tree.... they're thrilled if you take the taller trees, because once they grow a bit more, they have to be removed to make room for new trees.... (once they pass 10 feet, very few people would want them.. ) Although, a majority of the local places never have trees that reach that height.... the turnover on trees is too high.

Oh, and if we get the house that we have a purchase offer in on, anyone from these forums who wants a free tree can stop by next year 🙂 I hate pine trees! Have 1000 to get rid of.

Oddly, the xmas tree farms around here ARE commercial enterprises.. So, the quality varies from Charlie Brown to perfect.

I'm not talking about a christmas tree farm ... I'm talking about heading up into the Pike National Forest to get a wild one. The forest service sells permits, and it helps them clear out undergrowth for fire control as well.
