How does this compare to a Creative Labs PC-DVD Encore 12x with Dxr3? I'm looking at that one because it has the TV output... but if this Toshiba is better, is there another way I can rig it so as to have a TV output? And with that, have any of you seen any hot deals for a that CL's drive or whatever thing(s) I would need to set up a TV output?

Argh, you should have gotten the one with the decoder card for another $4 so you could tell us what kind of card it is. If it is a Hollywood Plus or anything similar, this is a very hot deal.

Thanks for the find! I broke down and bought one. Also decided to beef up my system a bit so purchased 2 sticks of Crucial 256MB PC133 CL2, LiteOn 12x10x32, and 2 40 Gig IBM 60GXP's. Also bought the conductive pen to unlock my 1Ghz AMD AXIA to really get some speed. Can't wait till all my new toys arrve! Now I'm broke... 🙁 Guess I'll sell off some older components I have...

dwinslett:
I swear the 1GHz AXIA chips are already unlocked. My friend just put together his system, same chip as yours, and it's unlocked. It's an Athlon C, right? 266fsb? Those puppies are unlocked and very overclockable. Anyway you'll be happy with the matching 40gig IBM's... raid them and you'll get awesome performance. Sounds like you got yourself a pretty kick ass upgrade going on. Have fun.

decoder card

RealMagic Hollywood + with SVideo out 🙂

compatible with ALL video card!!!

Nice deal!!!

pochacco20:

I'm not sure how your friends is already unlocked, but everyone I have spoke to and everything I have read here and on the net states you have to connect the L1 bridges in order to be able to unlock the CPU. Mine are definately not connected, but yes it's a 266fsb, Retail version. Bought about a month ago just haven't been able to rev it up yet. Actually I've been using the cheap 256mb ram from Upgradeplanet so I can only reach 904mhz, that's why I'm going with the two sticks of crucial 256mb PC133 CL2. Oh yeah, and the matching 40 Gig IBM's are definately going to be set up as a raid. I purchased a 20 gig about a month ago when I bought the processor along with the IWILL KK266-R. The 20 gig is full now so I'm going to do the raid as planned.

So the decoder is a RealMagic Hollywood+ Card. Sweet!!! Glad I went ahead and ordered the combo. Figured it was worth the six bucks either way. Although I already have a 64MB Video Card with TwinVeiw/ TV Out. Too much is not enough...

Just received the package today. It comes with Real Magic Hollywood Plus. Mine is firmware version 1010 which according to the DVD firmware page in dwinslett's message is patchable to be region-free.

It is not black. BK stands for bulk, which means that it come in a brown box packaging. It comes with 3 cables, installation card, driver disk, manual and what looks like a game DVD sampler from Infogrames.

BTW, on E*bay the decoder card by itself goes for $50. If you don't need the card, sell it and you can get your drive for shipping cost. This makes this a very hot deal.

For the person that received the shipment when did you order the item? I ordered the item early monday morning and it still says waiting for shipment. To the others how long did it take to ship?

I ordered mine on Sunday, but it didn't get charged till Monday (they seem to be a small outfit, so probably weren't working on Sunday or maybe doing a computer show). My order still says "waiting for shipping" as well, even though it arrived already. It was shipped UPS ground from New Jersey, and I live in Maryland, so that should explain the quick delivery time. Alas, order does not show the UPS tracking number, so there is no way to tell for sure what the real status of shipment is.

Ha Ha, I got in on the Decoder Card package deal. I had a feeling it was a Hollywood plus, that's what the DVD-Rom is typically packaged with.

This is officially a hot, if not flaming hot deal. Considering the 16x seems to be a lame horse. Too bad it's dead...😀

Shoot, I missed out on this hot deal. The 12X DVD + decoder is out of stock now and is priced at $60 to boot. Man, I have to start reading this forum like very 2 mins :frown:
