I wish we could get Anandtech or someone to look into this. There is very obviously a problem here, as ATi said that these cards would be out in late May. Here it is 1/3 of the way through July and they are so scarce its unbelievable.

I wish ATi or someone would at least offer an explanation. I wouldn't mind waiting if they'd come out and say, we're having problems in the fabrication process, or tell us what the deal is. Just let us know whats going on, thats all.

Since it seems to be affecting ATi and nVidia I think that some research into it should be done just to let all of us who have been anxiously waiting for these know whats causing these delays. If there's a shortage of DDR3, just say so. Whatever the cause, we'll be able to accept the delays if we knew what was behind them.

EddNog, I actually went to the evga.com website and looked at the 6800GT. It is instock and $399.99... When will the GW madness end! I am waaay tired of my GeForce 2 Ti card =( Since I am running it driverless, the native driver doesn't support OpenGL. So no crappy Halo or NFS:U or CoD for me. When I play FarCry on it, I end up crashing my system after 30 minutes ... haha. I can play Rainbow6 3 Raven Shield on it though, at all max settings and get 60fps (the max).

Toss is the way to go! I tried to do Terrian the other day, and I just suck! I love Toss, nice tanky Zealots. I almost always build 50-100 cannons to protect my base while I build 8 Spaceports to pump out Carriers. A couple of robotic facilities to upgrade armor and weapons simutaneously. 24 Carriers with 8 bots each ... kills fast. I also started taking a few scouts with each group to kill air targets fast.

I want my X800 XT PE *cries*

darkswordsman, I am going to talk to my contact at Gateway, the 3rd party vendor relations guy that called ATI for me previously, to see if he can give me that number "under the table". If that doesn't work, I know several other vendors around the Dallas area that might be able to do the same thing.

If anyone knows the "big shots" here at Anandtech ~ the guys can get to review all the cards, talk to them and ask them for help. This is plain ridiculous...

You know, GDDR3 is a pretty decent guess; notice that it's not just the X800XT PE that's short, but also the X800 Pro, the 6800 Ultra, 6800 GT and 6800, all cards that use GDDR3. Were it a fabrication process problem, I would think that only the higher performance chips would be delayed (i.e. due to tighter binning), but that's simply not the case...

Sooner or later (hopefully) the truth will come out about this delay. I've had my money tied up for over a month now on this video card investment that yields nothing yet. Obviously, it is not Gateway's or CDW's fault that the cards are delayed. It is, however, Gateway's fault for A) listing the card as being in stock when clearly, it never, ever was, and also for charging customers (not just placing credit holds, but outright charging to) for an item that never shipped. At the least, CDW never told me they had them, because they never did!

I played StarCraft a lot before the expansion pack, and I remembered how great it was to move in with six carriers to distract them at their front door, while coming in from arears with some Arbiters to beam in a bunch of Dragoons. Carriers out front, Dragoons and Arbiters out back. You're toast.

I do believe, however, that the balance changes made later on in the newer patches, as well as in the expansion pack, made my strategy much more difficult to succeed with. Either way, I have already moved on to other games.

You ever play Shattered Galaxy? SG beta phase 3 was soooo much fun; it's a shame how they ruined it with phase 4 and the truly crappy retail version.

If you like RTS and want to play a game on your X800 (when you finally get it) that will take advantage of the new card (and probably can hardly run on your current card), give Generals a try; I like it a lot (again, with this game, I've not played the expansion pack, just play the original). I also found it, interestingly, to be a very good stability test for overclocking (I use it to test CPU/memory stability, along with Prime95, MemTest86 and FarCry; for video o/c/artifacting, I test with the Ruby demo and 3DMark03; look at Ruby's emerald pendant up close in the first freezeframe, and at the cascading stream in Game Test Four).

I think you guys shouldn't even be crying or contacting GateWay. If anything you should be telling ATI that they are F*****ED UP company... What did they expect? ATI really screwed up this time. Making a lot of people wait over a month maybe even 2-3 months for a video card is bad business. I am sure they must of thought that thousands of people would be interested in their Vid card.

I thought about switching to Nvidia also but they are short on supplies as well. I don't know about you but it would seem pretty easy to pump out 100.00 card for a profit of 350 or so. You'd think they would put a bit more $$ to get more cards made and into the market.

I took a gamble and sold my 9700 Pro for 168 bucks on Ebay thinking that the X800 was going to be at my house soon esp since GW had it in stock! :) hahaha Anyway now I'm limping around on a Geforece MX 440 I had sitting around the scrape pile. 1+ Month seems even longer for me.

I did contact ATI about this...

Actually, I called that number in your email and talk to that guy, and he gave me the number for the reseller rep ... I am currently on hold. The poor Online sales guy said XT PEs are shipping to vendors. Yea. Right. CDW, GW, NewEgg, etc just didn't recieve any...

So I am going to ask this guy for a date, a reason, and free stuff! The last part would be nice, but I won't ask for that - although I am sure they would ship me an ATI tshirt. Haha!

--------------------------------------------------------------------

So I talked to the ATIdiot and lmao, not much info. He said that he has talked to a whopping 2 people today that had X800 XT PEs but 100 or more without. He claimed that ATI is stocking up up up on the cards and not shipping out measely shipments of 10 or 20 cards (which is ridiculous). He claimed that they are planning on one massive, "pipeline filling" (he said that), shipment to all resellers to satisfy the demand. He also claimed that nothing was wrong with the production of the cards. ATI can suck a nut. I hate them more than Gateway now. He could offer absolutely no date as to when ATI will do the said massive shipment.

I say we get 24 Carriers and float em about the ATI base while EddNog moves in with Arbits in the back and kill the people and raze the buildings. =O Computer game speak in reference to real life ... aw well.

What a crock of $#!^. Do they think we're really that stupid?

Hmm, maybe someone should get a massive listserve of people who are waiting on this card and set it up so that everyday ATi gets a bunch of emails asking for an explanation of what is going on. Kinda like how in the Shawshank Redemption when Andy keeps sending letters requesting funds for the library. Then again, ATi would probably somehow get this to be considered spam and sue all the people involved.

So they're saying that they are using a, "bust a nut," style, "release," of products into the market...

Must be, "quite a load," they've got coming, because it sure as heck has been, "boiling up down there," (up there--Canada?) for quite a while. I know I probably couldn't hold, "it," back for so long, if I were they...

Good ideer. I just sent an email to my GW Sales guy and included "PS: Can I get a free T-Shirt or LCD?"

That might make him laugh and sent me not only one of the stock piled X800 XT PEs, but a free LCD! What a plan. And yes, the crock that this shat is cookin in is gigantic. We should march GW and ATI reps up the crock and sacrifice them like the Gilligan's Island episode with the natives and the volcano. That way, they can experience first hand the flaming BS they create.

The CSR, the CSR, the CSR is on fire, we don't need no water, let the MF burn, burn MF, burn.

Furthermore, I want my X800 XT PE before I move down to Austin. I have a feelig that around 7/19, I will call/email them and get told that "unfortunately, we have been experiencing unavoidable delays in the item you ordered, your new estimated arrival date is 8/23. This in no way reflects on Gateway's overall image. Thank you for getting shafted and not screaming too loudly." I move down there 8/21. I can just SEE it coming right afterwards. I have determined that if I don't have it in my hands (or a tracking number) by 8/15 or 16, I am cancelling and reordering an X800 Pro|6800U|6800GT. Then I am calling Gateway and gettin all irrate at them for fun. ATI too. And if I get a nVidia card instead, that's even more to yell at ATi about. And if they choose to hang up on me, it's time to play "Guess the extension number" !!!

Bump + Update --> This -is not- an attempt to get senior memberdom faster

So I just called Gateway and played "Guess the Extension" a little and finally got ahold of a guy that answered the phone "Customer Service Management". I will keep that extension handy... So anyway, I talked to him, gave him my order number, and he made clicking noices, real or otherwise. After alot of clicking, he said, "Ah, it looks like we actually have your card ready to ship. It may ship later today or more likely Monday." I am ready to dismiss it as total crap, lack of communication and updated records, but I can't help but hold on to a ribbon of hope. Yea right, it ain't commin'.

So anyway, this further proves nothing. That ATI guy I talked to said they are coming out slowly, then he said we aren't shipping them at all, then he said we are shipping the out slowly again. Bah, corruption and ignorance abound!. I'll go to college, get my EE degree, go to a Doctorate program, and start my own graphics card company called Matidia (Matrox - ATI - nVidia). My top of the line product with be a Matidia MXVII980,000,050 Ultra Supreme Turbo Extreme OC. As you might guess, each additional powerword designates that it is a slightly faster product of the group before it.

BTW: That MXVII reminds me of ProgressQuest ... Lame-o

EddNog, can you be more specific? XD

You have yours ordered through CDW correct? When's your estimated arrival date?

Well I just called up, and what's happening right now is different from what's been going on the past month...

ATi, so far, would post up a new date whenever they need to push farther back, so for example, cards were expected on 6/30, but around 6/27, ATi informed CDW to push it back to today.

So, today was supposed to be the day that a shipment arrived from them; unfortunately, ATi never notified beforehand that there would be any delay. No cards arrived today, and for once, ATi has not provided CDW with a new date. Hmm...

Your guess is as good as mine as to why they suddenly aren't even giving any more dates. Maybe they're fed up with pulling numbers out of thin air! Unfortunately for me, I no longer have even a hint as to when I might get my card (at least I used to have potential arrival dates for the cards with CDW; now I'm as clueless as anyone).

Somebody dropped the ball, big time!!! :disgust:

I ordered 10. They were $4,349.50.

I used the ten percent coupon, which made my total $3,914.55. Then I used my AAA discount, which made my total $3,523.09. I added about $15 for ground shipping, but they upgraded it to overnight at no additional cost.

In other words, I got each one for $353.81 shipped. Estimated arrival date is 7/29/04.

Not too bad.

At least you managed to get a clear cut answer from the folks at CDW. That alone is impossible at Gateway. No one knows anything. As for ATI continually pushing the date back, my question is why. They can get a few test cards and say it is released! That is what it seems like. They got enough engineering samples to ship out and get benched, then claimed it was ready to ship. Instead of releasing a stockpile of 20,000 cards, they make them at a snail's pace and release them as they go. This is ridiculous. You would assume that after years and years of releasing much-anticipated products, ATI would know how to handle it. Then again, when you assume, you make an ass out of ATI and the vendors, not you and me.

It worries me that ATI isn't even giving dates anymore. I bet you're right, they are tired of making up date after date. How about they do some research and give an educated estimate. Oh wait, that would be logical! And as for the ball, it fell into that cauldron (that crock I talked about) a long time ago.

And yes, I am way lurching this thread.

I got the same answer as you, Eddnog. I called the regular 1-888 number instead of my normal rep (1. because he had today off, and 2. because I don't want to ask him again :) ). The guy that answered sounded like I woke him up. I said "I've got a couple of part numbers to check...". He said "Go ahead with the first". I asked about the arrival of some PCMCIA cards that are backordered (he still sounded sleepy), then he asked about the other part number. When I said the part number, he woke up fast! ;) He said something like "Oh man, that video card, right?..." (sounded depressed). Then he put me on hold for about 20 seconds (probably cursing). When he came back, he went on and on about how many calls/e-mails he takes a day for that card. He said that it was strange because the vendor keeps giving them dates and changing them once the date arrives (yeah, we know). He said they were supposed to be in today, but it didn't look like it was going to happen.

I've "only" called CDW 3 times about the card (not including when I'm shooting the shi, errr, breeze with my rep), but I imagine that if you multiply that by the 776+ orders, it can become memorable quickly for them. ;) I'm not calling any more... when it gets here, it gets here. It's definitely the 3Dfx Voodoo5 5500AGP fiasco all over again...

Guys, really, you should just let this thread die. In fact, you should all simply cancel your orders. When are you going to realize this just isn't going to happen? Besides, the new generation of Nvidia cards are out now and much easier to get. Additionally, as is well known, Nvidia has a better reputation and quality drivers. You can't say the same for ATI. I used the ATI 9700 Pro for about a year. After that, I can tell you that I will never use ATI again. I switched out my 9700 Pro for a BFG 6800GT and guess what? No more problems? In fact, I was able to go into the BIOS and even improve my memory timings and run rock-solid stable! I couldn't do that with my 9700 Pro. Good riddance, ATI.

Azo313, 10 cards?! Are you planning on reselling them for a profit somewhere? That's amazing O_O

As for the mysterious dates, that's freaky.

Yes we should all cancel our orders because someone's opinion and troubles with an ATi card.
