Da da da da DEAD!!

I tried clicking on the link and I get a gateway 403 Error message.

I wasn't really interested in buying, not that I have the $$ to blow on something like this. I'm sure the XT PE will be like $100 markup from retail for a month or two after release. Thought it would be a nice upgrade from my Radeon 9700 NONpro.

someone posted this on the rage3d forums:

"just talked to a sales rep online a few minutes ago, his name was "Hans" or something like that. Anyways, it sounds like shipments aren't gonna be getting out as soon as they had been stated in conformation e-mails. I ordered last night and my conformation e-mail had a ship date of 06/09/04, but when I asked him about it he said it would most likely be shipping out around the 14th. On top of that, he basically said any orders placed last night are pretty much guranteed to be shipped in the "first round" of cards, i guess anyone who placed an order this morning is gonna have to wait till mid-june when they get their next shipment."

This deal is plausible, as Gateway has done this before. Back when the GeForce4 was king, they had a screaming deal on the VisionTek 4400 - for something like $235, when the price everywhere else was $299 or more. I got in on one, don't have the card anymore because VisionTek are boobs, but that's another story.

Thanks Twysted. Used to read Rage3D but that forum is too massive and I stopped checking it every day :)

Oh, if I only had the spare moolah. I'm sitting here looking at the card in my checkout cart, but just can't swing the greenbacks. (*sigh*) Oh well. There'll be other Hot Deals.

Must have had the card in there for 1/2 day, as the deal is DEAD as a DODO.

Ooh, it's back, but OOS. Now I'm debating whether it's worth it, but $435 is just too damn much for a video card. I can swallow sub-$300, but no more. I'll wait until the Pro can be had for $295.

It's back, but out of stock:

"OUT OF STOCK: Usually ships in 2 to 4 weeks"

Same price though.

Called ATI and they haven't even started manufacturing the retail versions of the XT PE yet. Good luck to anyone that pulled the trigger on this one.

When did you call? 8 months ago?

by the way, having a post count of 1 doesn't give you much credibility.

Man, tough crowd. I'm not in here to start trouble. I saw the deal like everyone else, and was a tad bit skeptical about immediate availability. Hell, I have a 9800 AIW Pro, and would love to trade up as well (was going to jump at the deal). I would think the customer service reps at ATI would know better, at least on those products which are made by ATI (and not 3rd parties). She could have meant availability, and not manufacturing though. She said late June, possibly July. She could have been high though.

With a less than acceptable merchant rating, forgive me if I don't believe Gateway.

By the way, I called today, not 8 months ago. This was for the XT PE now, mind you. I'm not sure if there is a X800 XT and a X800 XT PE.

order status changed to "your order has been processed and is in the manufcturing facility" and my CC was also charged so I am guessing they are honorng the price.

Right...but you can mod the pro to XT's! Save (making) all kinds of cash!

Oh the insanity, it builds.

So I also ordered a X800 XT after calling twice and talking to some nitz online to verify the card was in stock, all three told me yes.

So I called just now to check and was told that all orders are on back order for at least 2 weeks and that they never had the card in stock.

It's almost worth the extra 50 bucks to NOT buy it from them. Yes you will still get the sale price, but when you get the damn card is a total guess. Terrible online service and one I will never order from again. Now I just have to think about wether or not to cancel my order. Maybe they are just doing this to get people to cancel because of the low price they posted initially?

Its not hard to imagine that Gateway is already firing some CSR and marketing people for this whole fiasco. In this age of internet and everything, you must learn to research the market well and then put out offers. I am sure they certainly never expected more than 10-15 people to jump in on this offer considering their bad ratings, general availability of the card and the low pofile of the ad, litle did they expect the guy at Rage3D or whoever started this whle thing to post it on these popular forums and people jumping like crazy trying to get in on the deal. By the time they could take stock of their inventory their sales system had already accepted all those infinite orders and now the CSRs have to explain the delay and very likely cancellation of many orders including mine :D

Your Gateway order is being filled in our manufacturing facility.

Your estimated shipping date is 6/9/04.

Hopefully we'll get some kind of email in the next 24 hours if our shipping dates did infact change.

It's not the end of the world if my ship date is delayed, I'm just glad I saved $70+ :D

I guess. I'm not glad that I might have to wait 2-3 weeks for a card I thought I might have by the weekend since I paid for overnight shipping.

To be honest, I don't even know why I jumped on this deal so fast. Doom 3 isn't out until July (maybe) and Half Life 2 isn't out until August (maybe) by then the card will be at this price or lower anyway and my 9800XT hasn't shown a day of age yet. Dammit, the impulse gets me every time.

2 weeks?!! Big friggin' deal...

CDW.com, the OTHER cheap alternative also has 2 weeks+ for their ship date and is actually $25 more than Gateway's! I just hope we get the damn card, considering the relative cheap price. :)

I know it's not the end of the world or anything, just annoying that I talked to 3 CSRs last night and all 3 said it was in stock, so it's just very annoying.

/goes back to Battlefield on his old dusty 9800XT.

Not true... I got my Vision Tech GF3 when they first came out thru the Gateway Store. Was $80.00 cheaper and got it the next week. One week before they hit the shelves :D

I couldn't resist either. I placed my order today @ 10:45am est. My confirmation email has a 6/10 ship date. I just sold my 9800XT on Egay so this upgrades costing me $109.00. I can live with that.

btw, I did that online chat deal with a sales rep (Ben :) ) who said they were in stock at the time so...

So it was YOU rat bastards who've been hammering my poor reps!

"Hey M4H ... WTF is an 'X800XT PE' and why are people ordering them by the assload?"

You guys killed the warehouse stock. Seriously.

Congratulations. :D
