At this point a CSR could tell me that Jack will carry two pallets of them down the giant bean stalk to the warehouse on June the 32nd and it would be no less useful than the information they're doling out as it is.

Good luck, you'll need it.

Isn't that like, "Cake? What cake? *crumbs and frosting on hands, piece of cake drops off the chin onto the table* Hey look there's still some peanut butter in the fridge..."?

Interesting to see all of the replies Gateway CSR's have given various people. I only received one email so far, and it was my purchase confirmation. My credit card has not been charged yet, and the sales rep I spoke to on the phone today claims my order will still ship on June 11, despite the fact that clicking the order status link states:

"Your Gateway order shipped on 6/11/04"

And it's err...currently June 8. ;-)

He's probably blowing smoke up me arse, but I can wait - no rush. If I hear nothing or receive nothing after the 11th I'll cancel and wait until Newegg.com gets it. Free shipping and no sales tax there anyway.

Cheers,

EnochLight

I never checked my credit card for a hold on the $$$ but other than that I'm in a similar situation... Only 1 Email but mine says it shipped on the 10th. CSR's told me the orders would be cancelled but my sales rep said the order would ship when they arrive (estimated 6/16). We'll see I guess...

I haven't even talked to a CSR for fear of upsetting then. Mines says shipped on 6/9 and I'm still waiting for it. Gateway has an authorization on my card too.

The item you had ordered (Radeon X800XT 8X APG 256MB) is currently on backorder until July. If you do not wish to continue with the order please respond back and we can have it cancelled. If you would like you may visit our website to locate a comparable item. You may also chat in or call in (at 1-800-428-3929) to sales for additional help. We are very sorry for this inconvenience.

Gateway.Com

I guess make up your own conclusion to this... I'm thinking they want you to cancel your order so they don't have to cancel them for you.

Good Luck!

Guys, Gateway will not be getting these cards in until July 2nd.

I called this morning after recieving the following email:

"The item you had ordered (Radeon X800XT 8X APG 256MB) is currently on backorder. If you do not wish to continue with the order please respond back and we can have it cancelled. If you would like you may visit our website to locate a comparable item. You may also chat in or call in (at 1-800-428-3929) to sales for additional help. We are very sorry for this inconvenience."

I then called and spoke to a supervisor - some gal named Tony. She explained to me they never had the card in stock to begin with. Advertising it on their site was a mistake on their part, she admitted.

She told me that Gateway is expected to recieve the BBA cards on July 2nd. Futhermore, if you have not gotten and email, or called by gateway and told this information, your order will be placed on hold. You can all expect to be contacted with this information via email/phone and you will be asked if you would like to continue to wait for this card.

I'm also starting to think that all BBA cards will be delayed until early July, but only time will tell. I chose to keep my oder. It's a great price... I dont mind the wait too much. I'm just glad to finally know whats going on with my order.

Edit: can't shpell rite twonite

Not true for all orders. Mine was updated last night and I was also told last night that I should expect to see my card on the 16th. I think it all depends when you ordered it. I also recieved no email like that, however my account was updated when I woke up this morning.

What are BBA cards? Anyway, that's not how I read the email, NOWHERE does it say you will be asked if you would like to continue to wait for this card... Instead it says If you do not wish to continue with the order please respond back and we can have it cancelled. That to me is saying they want you to cancel your oder.... Sigh... Oh well, Good Luck.

And I honestly do not think all orders will take that long, this week or next people will have X800XTs from Gateway. Mark my words.

Guys, just read the beginning of the thread... Gateway pulled the EXACT same b.s. with the Geforce 4 Ti4400 and Ti4600... You have to call and say that you do not want your order cancelled and then just sit tight for a few months and you should get the cards. Good luck.

"comparable item"? Respond back that there is nothing comparable because you ordered the top of the line gfx card and the whole point is that they don't have anything else like it on the site...

The optimism is admirable, but you're really dreaming.

Whoever said "I'll wait for newegg to get it".....lol Have you seen what they're charging for just the X800 Pro right now? $460. Imagine what they're gonna be charging for the XT PE.

That would be me. Yes, the Pro is outrageous right now there, but that's because its availability is almost as scarce as the elusive XT right now. Of course they'll charge top dollar for it at this point. Give it time; they'll come down - just as everyone will. You can't argue that for the most part Newegg tends to have the best prices on the web. Coupled with the highest rellerrating to boot, I'll happily be patient to business with them.

As a matter of fact, I think I just talked myself out of this stinky Gateway crap. I'm cancelling this evening. Good luck everyone else!

Cheers,

EnochLight

Newegg actually did have an X800 XT on sale for like 2 seconds. Not sure if it went out of stock or what, but its no longer even on the site. I believe it was priced lower than $500 too.

As for sitting tight and waiting a few months, well whats the point? I'd be willing to pay $50 extra bucks to be able to use it a month or more before it'll come, especially if it was from a better seller.

Ok, this is getting just plain stupid now.

I just called them up to cancel my order. Well I asked what the status was first, and then he said its showing an estimated arrival date of the 10th and that it looked like it was going through fine. I had called the day before and was told it was on backorder and it was slated to arrive July 2nd to them. The person I called today could see what was done on my call yesterday, because he said that it showed that I had already called and they had created a reference number for it. He then told me what the ref number was and said that I could use that to verify that he told me it was going through fine and I should have a tracking number for it either tonight or tomorrow (which I highly doubt). He said that I should actually have either gotten a tracking number or be getting one very soon.

I know we already know this is messed up, but do they even sync their computer information with each other? How can there be like 3 different statuses for the same order on their network. Apparently my order is cancelled, backordered, and shipping all at the same time. WTF!!!?

"Your Gateway order is being filled in our manufacturing facility."

Hey, how about this crap that I got when I sent an e-mail asking to cancel the order:

Hello ...,

Thank you for your e-mail. I understand from your e-mail that you want
to confirm about the cancellation of the order number XXXXXX.
..., I appreciate the opportunity to assist you with this issue. On
verifying the account details, I see that you had placed an order for a
Radeon X800XT 8X APG 256MB with order number XXXXXX. This order was
placed on June 03, 2004. ..., please note that our records reflects
two Radeon X800XT 8X APG 256MB items, out of which one is canceled and
the other is being processed. ..., please note that your orderwas
placed through the Accessory Store, which is a Gateway affiliate. Our
records indicate that your order has proceeded past the point in the
order process for cancellation. If you do not wish to receive the
order, you will need to delivery refuse the item when it arrives. I
apologize for the inconvenience this may cause you.

..., we appreciate you contacting Gateway regarding this issue. I
have documented this correspondence in Service Request Number
xxxxxxx in our contact tracking database. Please use this number
in the future if you need to contact us again regarding this issue.

"your order has proceeded past the point in the order process for cancellation"? WTF? And they're telling me that I'll just have to refuse the shipment? and sorry for the inconvenience? They don't even have the frigging cards! Calling the phone status number just tells me that something is wrong and I'll have to talk to a customer service representative, and online my order has, though a freak wormhole in the space-time continuum, already been shipped _tommorrow_.

Not to mention that everyone seems to be getting a different, sometimes conflicting, answer to `what the hell is going on?' It's like something out of the twilight zone.

Hmm...interesting.

My online order status is now back to `estimated shipping date' instead of `shipped on'.

I guess I can wait one more day to see what bizzare things will happen then.
