the family - 3/10 - just an odd movie that had a stupid plot. the acting of the daughter was painful to watch, and her character made no sense at all. same with the son, his character just felt so out of place and made no sense. i also couldn't tell if this movie was trying to be serious or a comedy at points. it hardly got any laughs out of me, but it always had this silly stereotypical italian music going on in the background like you would expect a comedy to have. the entire plot was also all over the place and the movie seemed to not flow together very well to me. michelle pfeifer's fake italian accent was also painful to listen to. i would definitely not recommend this movie.

Pacific Rim 6.8/10 - So pretty much any movie with giant robots fighting aliens will be a must watch for me, and I'm a big fan of del Toro. But I felt like the movie was just TOO predictable & cliche which cost it a really good rating from me.

Oblivion - 7/10

I didn't watch this in the theater due to all of the panning, but I caught it on TV the other day and to my surprise it kept me entertained throughout. Clichéd silliness creeps into the last section of the movie, but up to that point it kept me guessing in a very satisfying way, and it's brilliant to look at.

I kind of wish I had seen it on the big screen now.

Lone Survivor - 7/10

As with most "based on a true story" movies, I ignore all that bullshit and think of it as no more than a movie.

It was solid. Pretty much what I expected. People who like these movies will like this one, and people who don't shouldn't bother.

Broken City 0/10 - I made it about 30 minutes in and then made the calculated risk that it wasn't going to get any better.

La grande bellezza - 8/10

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fJfvX6zPAuQ

A philosophical movie,a bit like The tree of life, but with an Italian flavor.

Sorrentino is a virtuoso director. Technically he is just amazing.

However, in this movie it shows a little bit too much that he knows it, and knows he can get away with a lot because of it. I still think The Consequences of Love to be his masterpiece, and liked Il Divo more than La Grande Bellezza.

It is however a very good movie, and anybody who has lived or spent time in Rome will love it. The talks about a modern La Dolce Vita are in my opinion excessive, though.

Servillo is an immense actor, as always.

Attack on Titan season 1 7/10
Just saw this pop up on Netflix and remember seeing people on the forum talking about it so I gave it a shot. Watched the whole thing over my 3 day weekend. I'm not a big anime fan but this one was pretty good.

Warrior (2011) - 9/10

Wow, how did I wait so long to watch this film? So many people told me how great it was. It's been sitting on both Netflix and in my stack of unwatched BRDs.

World War Z - 7/10

Pretty good zombie flick. A bit cliche, and many scenes felt like I was watching a live version of Last of Us (which came first btw?), but I enjoyed it.

I actually saw it twice in theatres.
Beautiful movie!

Short Term 12 - 10/10
This took over #1 place as my favorite movie of 2013 (didn't see till now).
Got the tear ducts going. Truely fantastic film.

Celeste & Jesse Forever - 8/10
One of the best rom-coms i've seen in a long time.

You kidding, Spring Breakers is probably number 2 on the top 10 worst movies of the year easy. The show is simply bad. The plot is transparent (to the point of being nearly non-existant), the characters are so cliché as to appear as parody, and the pace of the show is so bad that I assumed that they had to cut large portions of the show to keep it in their target timeframe. The show appeared to me to be nothing more then a ‘girls gone wild’ parody that failed to be funny.

yeah spring breakers is one of the worst movies i watched last year. in fact i think it is the only movie i watched and cut off, never making it to the end. the awful acting with awful story just didn't cut it. it was my fault though for thinking it was a different type of movie. i thought it was more of a comedy like hangover or something though, with college kids. i didn't know it was some stupid artsy fartsy movie though. the trailer totally sold it as something different.

Jack Ryan shadow recruit - 6/10 this is supposed to be prequel of all the other Jack Ryan movies, but this story setting is post 9/11 and all the other ones happened before 9/11, so timeline is all screw up, plus Tom clancy had nothing to do with this story. Other than that, and can get over these facts, it's an OK Spy movie.

I thought the Ben Affleck one was a prequel, and this was a reboot. Just looking at the trailer, it almost makes Ryan is an actual spy, vs the analyst in all the other movies.

Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit (Theater) - 8.5/10.0

-Chris Pine makes a good Jack Ryan
-An intense thriller from beginning to end
-A modern, geopolitical/geo-economical spin on the long-term US-Russian conflict
-A welcome addition to the previous "Clancy" movie series with a sprinkle of Bourne
-An advertisement for legitimizing NSA data gathering?

Dallas Buyers Club (Theater) - 9.0/10.0

-Brilliant performance by Matthew McConaughey
-An even more brilliant and emotional performance by Jared Leto
-A wonderful rebuttal against Big Pharma and the FDA (with present-day overtones)
-LGBT-Haters/Hicks need not see the movie unless willing to bring an open mind/heart

----

Looking ahead to the Oscars, The Wolf of Wall Street on the whole is a better movie but doesn't tug on the Academy's heart strings, so I have to give the Best Picture nod to DBC despite it not being my personal favorite. Both Leo and Matthew are at the top of their game and should be neck-and-neck for the Oscar. Hard to pick as each excel in their own way. Jared Leto is a no-brainer for Best Supporting Actor. American Hustle need not appy for anything.

Just saw this tonight and yes its a beautiful movie but damn plot holes galore. I couldn't get over how much stuff made no sense or was unexplained. Also to me, the story line was something we've seen tons of times before with almost no deviation.

Haha...no
It's a movie definitely not for everyone, but there are a lot of people who really like the movie. I'm one of them.
You may not appreciate art films, but that doesn't make them bad.

Acting was actually rather good. Characters were played quite well.
Franco was fantastic. I quite liked Gomez, though i've only seen her acting in this.
And the real reason you didn't like it..."artsy fartsy" pretty much tells me all i need to know :)

I do agree the trailer definitely mislead people into thinking it was something else, which is kinda too bad. But they probably made a lot more $$$ that way as it suckered people into thinking they could go have a good time seeing T&A...when really that was not at all what the movie was about.

I'm quite fond of art films, and while I recognize the experimental nature of Spring Breakers, but that does not make it a good film.

I'm not even certain what it is trying to explore. As I said, there is not much of a plot, the characters are one dimensional and ultimately forgettable (for the most part they are just body parts to display), the cinematography is not different then traditional film, but nothing that has not been done in basically every bonzo porno ever made.

If you like the show, I am interested in hearing what it is that you find appealing, because I don’t see anything in the film other then blatant sexual exploitation.

I still have the movie on my HTPC. Tell me what you liked and I'll give it another viewing with your arguments in mind.

Watched Elysium last night. It's basically a remake of District 9. You have an anti-hero running away from a power controlling organization, he gets a mech suit and people end up getting liquified.

It's a fun sci-fi romp. Special effects are top notch. Damon played the part incredibly well and looked like a bad ass...props to his trainer for getting him into that shape.

If you get worked up over social commentary in films, it's not for you. But it's only in the way as much as you want it to be. Too many people get worked up over that and make this out to be some kind of major propaganda that it just really isn't IMHO.
