Best action movie of the summer so far for me... just no major faults that I saw.

What about absolutely awful drama/suspense build-up? For example, in the scene where
Wolverine is trying to go save Mariko from the evil tower of doom, they shoot him full of tethered arrows to hold him back, yet I never felt any emotion during that scene at all. I think it was even worse that Mariko was standing on the balcony watching the whole event take place, and she mostly just stood there while maybe letting out a gasp or two.
My goodness... how boring! I thought that problem was pretty pervasive throughout the whole movie.

Man, I need a good comic book movie, stat! I've been utterly disappointed by this year's offerings so far. I just hope either Kick-Ass 2 or Thor 2 can make up for it. Although, I get the feeling that the latter may just end up a disappointment like the first one was. :\

It wasn't great, it was just "solid" IMO. Tons of tiny faults, made up for it enough with awesome action (train scene was awesome in a stupid way :D). I felt the music at that moment added a lot to it, and the fact that
Shingen was reluctant to use the poison on his arrows
added a little bit more character to the scene. The scale of it was awesome in itself, IMO... If the acting/shooting/soundtrack was not excellent, I would consider the screenplay solid at least. I felt much, much more "into" The Wolverine than Pacific Rim for example.

The Lone Ranger -- 7.5/10: Even though the critics dumped on it and it may end up a money loser, I suspected I'd love it and I pretty much did. Nobody but Johnny Depp could have pulled off Tonto the way he did.

God of Carnage -- 9.5/10: A near perfect little gem of a movie. 4 characters, 1 room, all dialogue, so obviously not for everyone. It "was" for me, though!

Red2 -- 6.5/10: Great cast saves an otherwise deeply formulaic movie.

I saw this with the original cast (above) in Los Angeles last year (hard to believe JG is now gone).

If the movie is anywhere close to as good as the play (which seems to be an easy transition), I would agree with this review.

This IS a movie right? I couldn't find it on IMDB or Rottentomatoes. Do you happen to have a link?

God of Carnage is the play, I assume Perk is talking about Polanski's Carnage, which is the film adaptation of said play.

Oblivion...... 8/10 - I hate Tom Cruise with a passion, however I quite liked this SciFi fantasy set in Earth possible future...Some good twists, great special effects, and I really like sciFi, so easy bet for me!

I saw this last night, and I'd probably give it a 7-8. Nothing wrong with it, but nothing necessarily great either. Good production value...
essentially a big budget twilight zone/outer limits episode. I've seen all of those episodes, so this movie had no surprises. Especially since they pretty much gave away the plot in the trailers. The endgame scenario could have been better, but whatever
. I was entertained none the less.

There is PLENTY "wrong with it."

Meh, I dont think anyone expected this to be the next Alien or Wrath of Khan.

No, but it's still all style and no substance.

Oblivion: 4/10 Groan.

It could've been 6/10 with a simple reason for
using human clones to maintain the drones/sectors
. Pay your writers, for cryin' out loud! Instead, it looks like the only reason was to rip off
The Matrix and Moon
without a compelling plot reason. Very silly. Only Keanu Reeves would think that's a mindfuck.

I saw huge mushroom-cloud explosions that did no damage to the surrounding objects in close proximity with observing characters who didn't even use eye protection. I saw a space station lose communication every day because they can't have a simple relay satellite (or geostationary orbit
as far as the characters would expect
). I saw a dilemma that a simple written letter between demonstrably literate characters with plenty of reason to communicate non-verbally would've solved with far less risk, trust, and effort.

I couldn't believe the people behind me were clapping when it was all over.

Wreck-It Ralph - 9.0/10 - Loved it. Great visuals & sound, surprisingly deep plot for a kids movie. The blu-ray even let me skip the previews AND included the bonus features, a rarity on the rental discs. Look forward to watching it again when my son is older.
Agreed! This is a really good movie that all of us enjoyed many times over. Honestly I wasn't expecting much but was pleasantly surprised at how well it was done.

Voodoo Moon - 5/10

Think Scifi Original (according to IMDB, they did help make it, though not under their name like that). It's kind of fun to watch, but hokey and comic-book-like.

Only God Forgives - 7/10

Okay...this was an interesting movie. As a big fan of Drive, i had to see what Refn did in this one w/ Gosling.
I didn't hate it, but i also really didn't love it. So not really polarizing for me like i've gathered it is for many.

Imagery and atmosphere were absolutely amazing; a gorgeous movie to watch.
But the plot was tough to follow for me, and i had to read up on some reviews afterwards to understand better what i'd just watched.

Unfortunately i'm not sure having the movie explained as primarily symbolism makes it any better for me.

There were some fairly disturbing scenes i'd rather not have to have watched as well.

Refn's signature lack of dialogue makes for interesting movies, but some scenes felt lacking due to the characters just staring at each other for how long, and frankly started to feel a bit silly after a while, even if it fit with the rest of the movie.

Overall i rate it well because of how it was shot, and because there really are no movies like this, which makes it a nice change to see.
But i definitely felt it could have been better...i guess i just didn't really resonate with the plot/concept of the movie.

Anyone see The To Do List with Audrey Plaza? I love her on Parks. Was thinking about catching it this weekend.

I just saw WreckIt Ralph myself this weekend and loved it. I had a good feeling about it after just a few minutes into the movie when Ralph was at the train station and there was graffiti with the words "AERITH LIVES" and "All your base are belong to us" lol; I wish a bit more of the game had taken place in other games rather than Sugar Rush just to see what else they could do, but ultimately it didn't matter. There were enough amusing references and stupid but smart jokes (the "hit a man with glasses one" was awesome) that all the neon bright hyper candy stuff wasn't a big deal. Also going into it I was expecting Vanellope's character to be more like "Boo" in Monsters Inc but actually really liked how she developed. King Candy's cadence and wordplay added a lot imo. Ultimately Ralph probably ended up being my least favorite character curiously. Excellent overall. 8.5 or something.

Also "How to Train Your Dragon" was phenomenal. The non-Pixar studios are really doing some excellent work recently.
