World War Z without the battle of Yonkers and some of the other big events isn't World War Z. Why did they even need to call it this? Was this some kinda thinly veiled ploy to make money off the success of the book?

They had planned on it being a trilogy. So the battle of yonkers could have been planned the second movie. But yes it was said they left out such major things in the movie

It said on the poster "From the World of "Cars"", so I thought it was Pixar/Disney

282px-PLANES_FILM_VertPoster_550_11.jpg

Disney didn't task Pixar with making the Cars short cartoons on The Disney Channel either. They are supposed to be working on bigger and better things.

Shattered Glass (2003) - 7/10.

"The true story of a young journalist who fell from grace when it was found he had fabricated over half of his articles."

It was like watching a train wreck about to happen. I knew how it ended, but I still had to watch. I wonder how I would have liked it if I did not already knew the story.

Some of the interpersonal relationships were not explained/shown well, particularly, between Glass and the two female co-workers.

The twist involving the classroom was a nice touch.

Of course, if you hate Hayden Christensen, move along.

Been watching The Sarah Conner Chronicles - 5/10 - Finished season 1 and just failing to see what all the fuss is about. It's pretty boring for the most part, and I love the Terminator franchise.

The lone Ranger: 7/10

It was self-aware-ish, funny right when I was about to make fun of it, but 140min when it needed to be more like 100min.

Just impinge that tonto is a senile old man trying to come to grips with the genocide of his people by re-storying his life so that he was a super hero.

I really liked this movie. I thought Christensen was decent in it, but it was just a well composed story and was a very interesting watch.

Pretty sweet supporting cast with Sarsgaard, Azaria, Dawson, Sevigny, Zahn. Very nice!

Despicable Me 2: 9/10. Absolutely loved every minute of it, better than Shrek IMO. Best family movie in years, IMO. Didn't take itself seriously, got some "yay family" messages across without being preachy, and had me laughing like mad, mostly just because those stupid yellow minions are awesome and the riding a shark strapped with 250 pounds of dynamite into a volcano part was AWESOME.

I will be seeing this with my son in about 3 hours.

Looking forward to it.

The Words - 7.2/10 - Wife's choice. Not bad. Ending should have been developed slightly more as
they reveal that the story was auto-biographical. Actually they should have spent more time on that top level (Quaid/Wilde) overall. With so much focus on the Cooper/Saldana level, it felt like the top level was more like a framing device rather than a meaningful participant in the plot.

The Breakfast Club (1985) 8.5/10

I didn't like it at first and actually hit eject after 1/2 hour. Later, I read the blurb on the back of the DVD case and saw that the kids become friends later in the movie. Intrigued, I watched the rest. I really liked it and rewatched last night and liked it even more. It's a fine movie.

Papillon (1973) 7/10

Long movie (~2.5 hours), stark, shocking at times. Don't know how true to the facts it really is. I'll grant that Steve McQueen puts in a very impressive multi-dimensional performance (can't say the same for Dustin Hoffman).

Season 1 was done duruing the writers strike. Scripts were not polished and shows were not allowed to deviate from the scripts. They had to use the exact words in the scripts prior to the strike. Because of this, the dialog was not perfect. That's a big problem with season 1.

Just so you know, I liked season 1 and it's finale. I have the same thoughts as you. It was overly criticized. I think the season 1 finale was one of the best season finales ever. I'd put it on par with Lost. It's a different kind of ending than Lost so take this with a grain of salt ..... Best season finale ever! I litterally had my jaw on the floor watching the ending to season 1.

As an FYI, season 2 is much better! The finale is not as good though. Problem with season 2 is that no one watched because season 1 was unpolished.

I finally watched Blade Runner for the first time last night. Maybe I was too tired, too distracted, just not in the mood or it has been built up too much.. I did not find it to be all that.

Is there something wonderful about the movie that I missed?

MotionMan
Blade Runner is an old movie. It was ground breaking in its day but given the time decay you wouldn't expect it to have the same kind of impact now. So many sci fi movies since 1982.

End of Watch - 9/10

This movie came outta nowhere and really surprised me. It is one of the best cop movies I have ever seen. I am surprised people did not talk more about this movie last year. Highly recommended

I thought the same thing when I saw it with buddies back in 2003. It was not bad but they had a really good concept that kind of fell flat.

Yeah Hoffman was not great. He was good enough, but this was McQueen's movie. The length did not really bother me as I found the pacing was quite good and the story was very engaging.

Kill The Irishman - 7/10: Based on the real life story of Danny Greene, an Irish Cleveland gangster type. The first 30 or 40 minutes was pretty boring and even the acting kind of sucked, but once it got past that backstory and brought in the likes of Christopher Walken, Vincent D'Onofrio, etc. it became a lot of fun. Worth watching for Ray Stevenson's awful hair alone!

Carriers - 5.5/10: A sort of no-zombie zombie film. People get infected with a virus, but they just die rather than coming back to life and this follows a small group of people trying to survive. It had a few interesting parts, but I really did not care about anyone in the group, so it was kind of hard to care about who survived and who did not. The best stuff happened early.

House of the Devil - 3/10

I don't understand why people gave this movie such praise. The buildup is painfully slow, only one thing of interest happens in the first hour or so of the movie. They then cram everything into the final 10 minutes of the movie.....

That's what makes it so awesome. I don't find it painful at all.

A few people in this thread didn't care for it, but I agree with you. It blew me away. I keep meaning to go back and give it a second watch.

Check out 'Harsh Times'. I believe it is the same writer/director and has a very similar gritty feel to it and very powerful performance by Christian Bale.

Warm Bodies - 7/10. - Just watched this on a lazy afternoon on my day off. I've heard others call it "cute". I will go ahead and stick with that. Original story, good music, and a little bit of action in there. But make no mistake about it, for a Zombie film, it's a Romantic Comedy, just as it's listed.
