the father dying in the most stupid way possible

That scene made me. o_O
Aren't you supposed to jump in a ditch or something like that for tornadoes? He was right beside a ditch!

and brilliant things like them dragging the world maker across the galaxy for no good reason just to wipe out humanity
.

They brought it along so they could recreate Krypton.

Different sort of look at zombies.

You mean the teeth-clattering zombies? It was even more amusing how those scenes made everyone around me laugh.

Olympus Has Fallen - 7/10 Its one of those "it is what it is" kinda movies. No real surprises, except for maybe the number of recognizable actors playing small parts. If you dont question it too much its watchable.

I think my biggest problem with this movie was the dialog. The dialog just wasn't that good between people. If Gerard Butler spit out a few great one-liners, the movie would have been a nice replacement for Die Hard (A Good Day to Die Hard released around the same time).

Yeah, there was nothing memorable dialog wise. The interactions between the different Secret Service agents was good,
but they all died off so fast
. Kinda wrote themselves in corner dialog wise, cause its hard for Butler to trash talk to henchmen when they dont speak english. The dialog with Yune was...I dunno, practical. I almost wonder if it was originally written like it was supposed to be a Jack Ryan style movie, and then some exec came in last minute and said...we need explosions! Parts outside of the White House are so over the top, but inside it was by the book.

When watching the movie most people will think it would have been great if John McClain happened to be taking a tour of the White House when this happened. Since Butler is Secret Service, I guess he acts like he should.

Two movies this weekend.

Man Of Steel - 7.5/10. Extra .5 point for the actor for likeability. A revision of the old story of Superman but with a darker theme. I think too much blow up/fighting scenes for this type of movie. The female Lt. Commander of Gen. Zor was cute.

F&F 6 - 7/10. I know the movie is not about logic but things are getting out of hand more and more. The tank/jump out and catch the girl on the bridge and the airport runway (it has to be the longest runway airport on Earth) made me laugh for ridiculousness. Nice little titbit at the end with new character (..."you don't know who I am but you will soon").

Saw World War Z and have to give it two sort of reviews

First off

As a movie - 7.5/10
Pretty good acting, constant action. Different sort of look at zombies. Was exciting all the way through. Can read most of the other reviews for the idea.

As a book to movie..movie 3/10.
Having read the book, it was pretty sad. Its like the writers read the book then picked "themes" they wanted to explore in a movie. More along the lines of hey we stole some ideas from the book and completely changed the story but kept the name.

Still i enjoyed it. But you have to go into it realizing itll be nothing like the book at all

Side Effects - 7.6/10 - So for some reason, I thought this was going to be a sci-movie.... Its fine that it wasn't but I kept waiting for the twist.
Granted, there was a twist, and it got me, I just thought they were going to take it a different direction. I thought they built up before the twist VERY well, but after it was a little rushed. They should have developed the relationship btw rooney & zeta jones beyond a love scene. The stabbing scene was pretty weak, he should have fought more. Also, there would be no reason for her to continue to act asleep then since there would be no witnesses... just needed to fool the viewer, but that didnt seem realistic when i though about it after
. So overall I liked it, but see places it could have been improved.

Monsters U 6/10 - Visually stunning. Even in our shitty all digital theater the quality was just outstanding. Now the story and dialog on the other hand left a lot to be desired. If you really get off on awesome visuals, go see it in a theater. If not, skip it and wait for TBS to show it in several years.

My son was pretty bored through it even though he really likes Monsters Inc. Pixar just isn't Pixar anymore.

The previews make it look like they removed any bit of creative story and emotion and turned it into nothing more than 4th grade slapstick humor and fart jokes.

Not that there's anything wrong with that, it's just that Pixar tended to put a bit more heart into their movies and left that area to Dreamworks and the other knockoffs.

Monsters Inc just screams cash grab even more than Cars 2 did.

I wanted to like this movie, I really did.

But I couldn't get past 15 minutes of it on the plane. Then again, I felt the same way about Taken 2...

Those 2 movies just started up soooooooooo slow.

Not really. Merchandising wasn't nearly as big as the Cars cash cow. I'm surprised Pixar doesn't quit making anything else and release Cars 3,4,5,...

I'm heard that no other Pixar movie even came close to the amount of money Cars made from merchandising. Completely dwarfs the money made from DVD and ticket sales.

Evil Dead (2013) - 8/10

Somewhat conflicting feelings about this movie. As just a modern gore-porn horror movie, it succeeds better than anything else in recent memory. There were a ton of cringe-inducing moments. I'm a total sucker for any movie that puts emphasis on old-school FX over CGI, and as far as I could tell, they stayed pretty true to that.

On the other hand, I love the original Evil Dead. This remake contains 0% of the campy nature of the original and I think that is where they miss the mark. The cast was rather forgettable, as well.

Overall though, I thought it was fun. Watching on a big screen, in the middle of the night, with all the lights turned off is a must.

Monster University 5.5/10

Took my nephew to see Monsters University. He is 7 and got bored. Nothing special about the movie. He barely laughed. The first one was much better. Heck I even liked Cars 2 better.

Wish I would have taken him to see Man of Steel instead. I was worried there was not going to be enough to entertain him with Man of Steel, Monsters University was far more boring.

Watched John Dies at the End and thought it was pretty good. A bit of a bizarre movie. I like the actors, comedy, etc. Honestly though, I was so shit faced by the end of the movie I forget the ending. 8/10. :D

Paranorman - 6/10 - mostly harmless but bland rather than bad. A kid can see and talk to not at all scary dead people.

Resident Evil Retribution - 7/10 - #5 in a series, collect them all! As dumb action movies go it was much better than Expendables 2. If you've seen #1-4 you pretty much know what to expect.

OMG, that movie was such a pile of trash..even worse than 4. The others were at least tolerable. Expendables 2 was a 10 if this was a 7 :(

Yeah. I thought Afterlife was bad as it felt like half a movie stretched out to cover an hour and a half, but Retribution was just dumb. It wasn't even the good kind of dumb either. If I want to see Mila, I'll just go watch Fifth Element on repeat. You get to watch an awesome movie and see her naked. :p

World War Z without the battle of Yonkers and some of the other big events isn't World War Z. Why did they even need to call it this? Was this some kinda thinly veiled ploy to make money off the success of the book?

Also watched Ridley Scott's final cut of Blade Runner on Blu-ray - oh my gosh - simply a 10...

I finally watched Blade Runner for the first time last night. Maybe I was too tired, too distracted, just not in the mood or it has been built up too much.. I did not find it to be all that.

Is there something wonderful about the movie that I missed?
