Cabin in the Woods - Knows what it is.
Requiem for a Dream - Clint's legacy.
Life of Pi - I prefer the version with the cook.

Only regret? Life of Pi. Ugh. What is wrong with you people? You are why Ang Lee gets to keep making movies. Please: STOP.

I have tried to watch Die Hard 5 on three separate occasions now. It's the worst movie I've seen in years.

I'm in this thread though to complain that World War Z and Man of Steel have still not been released where I live. I'm in the stone age. ARG!!!

Safety Not Guaranteed -- 7.5/10

Wasn't really sure what this was about when we picked it up, I guess it's technically a romantic comedy but it's not as chick-flick-ey as a lot of films in the genre. Had some pretty funny awkward-type humor. Mark Duplass did a great job -- hope to see more of him in the future.

This is 40 -- 1/10 because I don't believe in 0's

I liked "Knocked Up" well enough, figured I'd give this a shot. Shut if off after about 20 minutes...and I'm VERY tolerant of bad movies -- and by that I mean if they're too bad, I usually just fall asleep, I never actually shut them off. This one I did.

It wasn't funny, it wasn't interesting, I'm not sure I laughed once before we shut it off. I did, however, get irritated by how hard the cast was *trying* to be funny, and they just weren't. Paul Rudd is on the verge of entering my category of "people who are apparently supposed to be funny but are really just annoying" -- a category currently occupied by Will Ferrell and Jim Carrey and Vince Vaughn.

Only if your idea of "awesome" is pretentious nonsense.

I'm glad I apparently never had the "pretentious nonsense" filter installed in my brain; it apparently gets in the way of enjoying otherwise great movies.

I am back to this thread again. My GF and I are now living together so I am currently rematching a lot of Indian movies as I have very little idea of her preference for English ones. Anyway, I managed to squeeze in a few new movies recently.

Scott Pilgrim - 8/10

This is such an epic mind trip. I liked the movie a lot and the credit goes to the VFX team and the director(of Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the dead fame). This movie is like a 3 hour version of nerdgasm.. and I thought he handled it very well. Michael Cera did his usual bit of acting, but he suited the role. The music was good and the action sequences were quick and fun.

I do understand why this one didn't do well in the box office, it can be overwhelming for a lot of folks and the movie shift from dragging on to extremely fast paced in an instant. Overall, I liked it... but the movie itself is a bit niche.

Warm Bodies - 7/10, a weird zombierized Romeo and Juliet love story. entertaining, worth the price of a rental.

Meh, I found it only slightly enjoyable. I couldn't let go of some really nerdy guys being able to kick all these guys butts all of a sudden. Just felt too out of character for me.

I know what you mean as I didn't care for the movie all that much. After seeing the movie, I went and read the comic that it's based on, and everything made a lot more sense. I mean... the action still has a very heavy video game influence, so there's some stuff that will never seem real, but in the comics, you learn that he isn't just some random kid who started fighting at that point. For example, the movie mentions that Scott dated the girl from the band (I forget her name), but in the books, you find out that he actually took out a bunch of bullies from another school to save her (an example of his prowess to help explain his fighting ability).

If you go into that movie expecting sort of an origin story to explain things, you really aren't going to get it. It's almost like taking a cheesy, beat-em-up game and turning it into a movie. Actually, it's not almost that... it pretty much is that.

I don't disagree with that. At least from what I can recall, Lois has always been quite the looker in most incarnations. I'm pretty much used to Terri Hatcher from Lois and Clark as that was on TV while I was growing up.

Thinking about it... what about Lois from Smallville? Amy Adams' Lois is kinda like her. Although, I'd take the one from Smallville over Amy Adams any day!

Lois in Smallville was pretty hot...

And in general Lois Lane has supreme confidence in herself. Amy Adams didnt really pull it off. I like her in other things, but in my opinion she just wasn't right for this role. In Smallville, Amy Adams would be cast as Chloe.

How can anyone think Life of Pi is pretentious? It's a pretty straight forward story with fantasy elements.

You know what's pretentious? That fvcking Thin Red Line bullcrap of a movie. 2 hours of emo lines, whining, and pondering about life.

Haha, I just watched that last night.

Life of Pi is obnoxious and bordering on pretentious in the way it shoves ideology down your throat. If you disagree, your siding with the horrible shitty story. All the mentions of religion make it clear what the message is supposed to be. I'm not sure if the book is the same way?

And all that aside, even before the "climax," I was sooooo bored.

I only heard the Muse song (sounded like either an instrumental version or a remix of Follow Me) at the end. Was there anything else?
They kept playing chunks of "The 2nd Law: Isolated System" (also from the latest album) throughout the movie. I just did some research and it sounds like they were trying to feature it, ala Tubular Bells in the Exorcist. It was definitely effective on me.

Looper - 7.7/10 - Solid movie for me. Was sort of glad they didn't go crazy with the time traveling. I did find Joseph Gordon-Levitt's makeup to be distracting, just looked very unnatural to me at times.

Chronicle - 7/10

-2 points because of the constant shakycam, otherwise it was a decent movie. Kinda reminded me of Akira, but thats not a bad thing.

I agree with the makeup. It was hard to get past. I generally liked the movie but my wife and I figured the ending out about half way through which sort of ruined any type of "aha" moment (assuming it was supposed to be a surprise).

It wasn't as bad as a Hollywood Akira could've been:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jafd97yJFOI

And it's supposed to be a found-footage movie, so of course it has shakey-cam.

I didn't find the found footage aspect all that compelling or necessary. Are we supposed to believe this actually happened? Its not even practical to record as much as he did...he would need a bag full of memory cards and batteries with him all the time. And you know he would have recorded his first time with the red head. Always using that cheap ass camera that doesnt have image stabilization really distracts from the movie.

You can figure out the ending based on the trailer, but my wtf moment was the kid. I was surprised by that, even though they laid the foundation for it early on.

The Hangover Part III 5/10: WTF is this? It's just not funny. I don't mean this in an insulting way. The movie changed the direction and is not funny at all. It's just a mediocre third-rate thriller. The writing is pretty cringey too. They should've never touched the god damn movie after the first one.
