Nope, just the Movies.

Bah. You using the streaming up here? Is it worth it?

I watched Tarantino's Jackie Brown for the 3rd time recently. It's a favorite of mine. Easily a 9/10. Fantastic casting, great acting, great movie. Doesn't go for shock value particularly compared to a lot of movies.

Jackie Brown is awesome. Need to pop in the Blu-ray and give it a re-watch.

Hanna - 8/10 (maybe higher)

The reviews called it a mix between Run Lola Run and The Bourne Identity. I think that pretty much nails it. I really liked it and it has a great soundtrack too.

Pretty Polarizing film; I've listened to and read a tonne of reviews of War Horse and some have it as their number one film of the year and others have it as one of the worst. Seems to be very little middle ground on this one.

KT

I wasn't polarized by it, but I think it's only mediocre for the most part. I think the film is more aimed at a young audience, as even the war scenes are very sanitized. Overall it felt like a disney movie.

I'd give it 6/10, mostly for some beautiful photography and pretty impessive stunt/FX work with the horses.

By FAR my favorite scene, and nearly worth the price of admission :
When the British and German soldiers make their way into no-mans-land to free a horse tangled in wire fencing. I'm a huge WW1/WW2 buff, and events like this happened quite often really, most notably the onofficial Christmas 1914 truce.

I almost felt that those two characters were more developed during that single scene than most of the 'main' characters, who never felt much more than cutouts and stereotypes. There really isn't much deviation from the rest of them as they are written.

Do you know if they are on Canadian Netflix? Been thinking of cashing in my free month soon and that would be an easy first thing to try out.

KT

Not sure will have to check some time as my father has a Netflix subscription now. Netflix quality is TERRIBLE here though. Some stuff is labeled HD but when I play it on my 58" is looks worse than DVD quality. WTF!?

Yup. I think it's worth it. That's what I'm using to watch a couple TV Series right now(The Walking Dead reviewed a few days ago, Jeremiah now). I'm satisfied with the Quality, but it could be better.

Hmm, ok, going to fire up my free trial this weekend. I'm a bit concerned about quality though, I hate poor quality video, it drives me nuts.

Thanks fellas.

Well at least it's a free trial so just cancel it if it's bad. Doesn't make sense the quality is as bad as it is.

Jeremiah Seasons 1&2 - 7.5(viewed on Netflix): Another very good series. Dude survives disease Apocalypse where all Adults die and only the Children survive. Story begins 15 years later when the Children have reached adulthood and the disease has long since run its' course/disappeared.

It is formulaic, very similar to SG1/Atlantis with a Main Plot building until the last 2 Episodes whereupon the main antagonist is dealt with, but until then each episode builds towards the season finale with 1 episode short stories. I almost quit watching this series on the second Episode, it was rather bizarre and seemed to be taking the series into a dull formula direction. I pushed on though and am glad I did as the next 3-4 episodes were much better, but also somewhat disappointing. However, as the Main Plot and the Characters developed it started to get very intriguing, and I had a hard time not pushing the Next Episode button.

Looking forward to Season 3......(edit)well son of a bitch. I should probably pay more attention to details. It turns out this series is nearly 10 years old and Cancelled after 2 Seasons. I am disappoint, OTOH, I don't need to be waiting on this, lol. It's shit like this that makes me uninterested in New TV series anymore. Series I start enjoying just get Cancelled prematurely all too often. Ah well, at least it ended without any major cliffhangers(unlike Jericho).

Whip It - 5.5/10: Meh, this was pretty bland and paint-by-numbers. Ellen Page was fine as the young Roller Derby wannabe and her parents were both acceptable, but I actually liked Kristen Wig and Drew Barrymore a lot, but they were only minor characters; Jimmy Fallon was moderately amusing as the announcer too. I don't know, not much else to comment on, though I must say there is a scene near the beginning where the two girls are driving off to the first roller derby exhibition and it shows them "rocking out" to music; Ellen Page does a full on air guitar solo and it made no fucking sense since they were playing a Ramones song! It did not match at all and looked absolutely stupid; The Ramones do not have massive guitar solos like that! :colbert: The soundtrack was pretty decent though, I liked it.

Diary of the Dead - 7/10(Netflix): Pretty typical Zombie flick, but quite enjoyable. It's unique in that it's shot mostly in a First Person perspective.

Is this the Romero one that takes place on a small island? If so it was shit on by a lot of people, but I saw the trailer and I think it looks pretty awesome; been wanting to see it for a while.

Wasn't this directed by Berrymore? Doesn't surprise me it sucked, not so much cause she directed it as the type of movie it is.

Yeah she did and she did fine. It wasn't bad as much as it was just blah. :|

Never really cared for her that much. I get why people like her. She's open, fun seeming, and seems very genuine in everything she says and does. Still something about her I just don't care for. Can't place my finger on it.

No. It starts with a group of College kids making a Horror Movie, but part way through the News of strange things(reports of Dead coming back to life) happening comes across the radio. They then, at the insistence of the cameraman, end up documenting the event as most of the Mainstream Media works to cover up what's going on(this is part of a sub plot, Internet News vs TV).

It is indeed a Romero flick though.

She can be kind of ditzy and annoying, but I sort of like her. :hmm:

Ahh right, I am thinking of Survival of the Dead. Added Diary, thanks. Always up for a zombie flick.

Drew Barrymore is a better model than actress. She probably would have had less drama if she just stuck to one or the other.

Really? I find she seems awkward as a model. But that's probably because I can't help seeing Berrymore the actress and ditz girl.

I'm guessing I'm the only one watching VH1's Critic's Choice awards :)

So far it seems that means the deserving nominees win. At least until The Descendents wins best picture

Looks like The Artist won! I don't think we had that show last night; how was it? I like Rob Huebel a lot; were the hosts good? Weird that there was a tie for cinematography. :hmm:

The show was alright. It felt brisk at 2 hours long. Lotta commercials perhaps.

The hosts weren't very good imo. I don't mind either guy, but the material was weak. They didn't get too much airtime anyway.

I'm glad The Artist won. As long as The Descendents doesn't win I'll be happy. Not sure the Academy will be so kind. There weren't too many surprises through the night, which I guess is to be expected when the critics are voting. I do wish that Elizabeth Olsen was getting more credit. I haven't seen The Help but it seems like Viola Davis has that locked up. Clooney as best actor is a bit annoying. I'd much rather see Dujardinor even better, Michael Shannon.

Final Destination 5 - 5/10: I think I'm done with these movies. I really enjoyed the first couple, but now they're just a series of death scenes with no real plot. Not that the earlier ones were amazing, but they at least had a little more build up and some mystery. The deaths in this one were way over the top too.

Contagion - 8/10: I liked this more than I expected. It's not an action thriller, but I thought it was pretty exciting and fairly realistic, though probably more tame than a real modern pandemic. I am an apocalypse/societal collapse junkie, so maybe this won't appeal to other people.
