13 Assasins - 8/10 - subtitles sometimes went by to fast so I couldn't read them. Especially bad at the beginning. Other than that it was a good story with good cinematography. The fighting scenes were done in an elegant manner. Worth seeing before Hollywood tries to redo it but in a worse manner.

CHUD - 6/10 ... 7/10 ... classic horror movie. Not very scary but it has a good flow to it. Fairly interesting to see.

The Crazies - 5/10
I enjoyed it. Not enough "zombies" and too much military. I jumped a few times.

Been binging on some TV lately

The League - 7/10 - I like this quite a bit. It's 5 guys who are all assholes being assholes to each other in the context of a Fantasy Football League. It has been surprisingly enjoyable, even though I'm not a football fan at all.

Homeland - 9/10 - I've enjoyed this very much, I feel it's doing well and firing on all cylinders. The writing and story telling has been compelling, the acting is incredible, the story is believable and the characters are mostly consistent.

Generation Kill - 9/10 - Definitely could see that it was made by the same people as the wire. Great story telling, compelling characters, excellent dialog, it was hard to sit through at times, but never because it was poorly done or executed, just the subject matter. I can see why it's so recommended.

Riki-Oh: The Story of Riki-Oh (Lik Wong) - 7/10: A cheesy, crazy Hong Kong action comedy with over the top fight scenes and insane gore! I watched this dubbed and with subtitles, which are insanely different and provided laughs just seeing the differences there. It's a bit longer than I would have hoped, could have easily chopped about 10 minutes or so off this, but it's insane, absurd, and ridiculously over the top, but if you want to see some insane martial arts action, this is worth giving a whirl.

I didn't particularly like Clooney here, or maybe it was the character and story I didn't like. The older daughter was very good though. I just can't comprehend how this is in contention for best picture of the year with so many critics. Maybe I'm not old enough to feel the emotion, but I think that would be a poor excuse.

Nah, I don't think it has anything to do with age, it's just kind of clunky. I have seen it on so many top lists too which I don't get. I liked Payne's other films, but this one lacked quite a bit.

I'm no movie critic so I can't comment on the technical aspect of it, but it's a mess of youtube clips. I'd rather just spend two hours watching youtube instead of sitting through this. Were there some parts that were interesting and enjoyable? Yes. Was it entertaining? No. There were no central themes except "Film yourself on this exact date and send it in" and answer some questions while doing so. That may be the point of the whole movie, but at least make it engrossing. I don't know why all the critics liked it.

Meh, I think I'll pass. I just don't see the point particularly after hearing your thoughts.

I have the first season of The League at home, been meaning o watch it for a while now.

Is Homeland the one with Claire Daines? I really want to see that one too, I hear it's amazing and Daines in-particular is supposedly great.

Ink 10/10 - "A mysterious creature, know as Ink, steals a child's soul in hopes of using it as a bargaining chip to join the Incubi - the group of supernatural beings responsible for creating nightmares."

Really damn good movie. Good story, visuals are quite impressive, trippy otherworldly feel to it. It's on Netflix streaming currently. Might not be for everyone, but I quite like weird off kilter stuff. At the very least check out the trailer. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1071804/

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (David Fincher edition) - 9/10

I was a big fan of the fantastic Swedish Män som hatar kvinnor.
It got a 10/10 from me.

Fincher did do a great job with this [unnecessary] remake.
He didn't hold back or water things down for the American audience, not that i'd expect anything less from him.
Production quality and style are two things i've seen mentioned as being better than the Swedish one, and while i would agree, they also had a massive budget comparably, so it'd be pretty sad if they weren't better.

I have to admit that i didn't really see how Rooney Mara was going to pull off Lisbeth as well as Noomi Rapace did, but i was impressed. Mara was excellent.

I personally prefer Noomi Rapace's Lisbeth to be honest as somehow she just seemed to fit the role a wee bit better, but i suspect this is a largely personal preference.

Daniel Craig is an actor i enjoy already, so i also was happy with his performance as well.

Musical score was awesome; as expected Reznor was terrific for that.

But i wasn't entirely happy with this version.

The intro to the movie was ridiculous.
I really cannot understand wtf it was supposed to signify, or accomplish.
Absolutely did not like.
Reminded me of the stupid intros Bond movies have, that have absolutely nothing to do with the movie.

Swedish settings, location, everything, but yay, English-speaking characters, with bad or non-existent accents and occasionally Swedish words tossed in.
This is the largest reason i was not happy when i heard of the remake.
It's a Swedish movie...making it English does not make sense in the context of things at all.

More time spent on the Mikael-Lisbeth relationship. Not sure if this is a good or bad thing, but they definitely did a number of different things on the scenes here.

I really need to read the books as i'm not sure which version does a better job following them.

From what i've gathered, both cover some parts of the book better than the other, and vice versa.

Anyway, overall a good movie.

However just like with Let the Right One In (Let Me In), my recommendation is not to go support American remakes, but rather, watch the original.

I assume you've seen the Swedish GWTDT?

How do you find they compare?

I've not made it to theatres to see it yet and none of my friends have seen it either.

I think they are both good but for some reason I like the Swedish one better. I don't get why they had to make an American version. It's not like the Swedish one was bad or didn't win a lot of awards.

For the first five minutes, I didn't understand what was going on. I didn't realize it but the American takes place in Sweden and all the characters and people are Swedish except the 5-6 core characters happen to speak English. I thought they were remaking it, like setting it in Seattle or something, but I was wrong.

The Perfect Host - 6.5/10 - It's a low budget film but the more you think about it, the more you realize how clever the writing is. Lots of unanswered questions.
The Man From Nowhere - 8.5/10 - Brilliant Korean movie. Highly recommended.
Sherlock (2010 BBC TV Show) - 8/10 - Wow! This is really good!

Yes, a great fun, fast, smart film. Did some things with visceral action that I haven't seen before. The most fun I've had with an action film since discovering Hong Kong John Woo films waaay back when.

The League does a good job of setting up believable unbelievable situations. When you have friends competing/sabotaging each other for pride, things do get outrageous- they take this idea and run with it. I can see this not being for everyone, there

Homeland is the one with Claire Daines. Damien Lewis and Mandy Patinkin also are incredible in it. There's a lot of back and forth on whether Damien Lewis is a terrorist (as the premise of the show indicates), but it is believable back and forth. They do a good job revealing info in the right sequence so it doesn't feel they're intentionally starving you, it feels pretty natural for an investigation overall.

I am close to finishing up the 4th season.

Aside from T'pol and Hoshi getting all slutty, this show has nothing to offer.

Why is it in Star Trek alternate universes the females are always skanks?
Do the writers think they're virgins over here?

Four Brothers - 6.5/10: I swear someone here recommended this movie, but can't remember who; stupid broken search. Anyway, four adopted foster brothers go back for the funeral of their murdered "Mother" and end up trying to track down the culprits. This was actually a lot of fun, even though much of it was kind of ridiculous and made no sense; like how they have massive shootouts and car chases in the middle of Detroit and nobody is around to witness it and of course no cops show up, but whatever, just had to suspend my disbelief. Wahlberg was perfect and really these are the kinds of roles for him, tough, violent, and not too much emoting. There were a few cheesy pseudo-flashback parts too, but yeah, overall pretty fun action/revenge flick.

The Walking Dead Season 1- 7.5/10: Really good Zombie apocalypse series. There are a few survivor relationship sub-plots that might make it jump the shark(a couple already are beginning to annoy), but so far it has been very enjoyable and I look forward to Season 2(watching on Netflix).

If you were writing a female character, wouldn't you make her a whore? :hmm:

I've only ever watched some Next Generation, are any of the other series' worth checking out?

Fat Head - 8/10
The anti-Super Size Me. Basically spends the whole movie discrediting Morgan Spurlock. I enjoyed it. The "special effects" are PowerPoint quality, so don't expect Avatar stuff here. I enjoyed it, thought maybe because I didn't agree with Super Size Me. Did I learn a lot? Yes. Was it entertaining? No particularly. Was it interesting? Yes.

Ping Pong Playa - 5/10
It was enjoyable, but not the greatest. Watched like a typical indie Asian American film direct by an Asian American. A lot better than White on Rice (gawd it sucked) but below Saving Face. It's funny to see the main character act so black, just like some friends I have.

Waiting for "Superman" - 7/10
I enjoyed it and it gave you a new perspective on education in the US. However, they seem to blame everything on teacher unions. Good, but not as great as everybody claimed.

Casablanca - 9.5/10:
Anyone ever hear of this one? :awe:

Well, better nate than lever. After seeing it, it's clear why it's often mentioned as one of the greatest movies ever; It appeals to everyone, film lover and casual viewer alike.

First, the story is masterfully told. This thing flows like perhaps no other film. It's unfortunate that even back when it was made Hollywood was adapting screenplays from existing sources(an unproduced play, so I guess it was somewhat original), but it's still a great story and it's told perfectly. The acting and the characters are all awesome, and Bogart is such a cool son of a bitch. All that stuff appeals to everyone.

But it also appeals to the sophisticated viewer(like KT :D). It's beautifully photographed and even though it was all filmed in a studio, it looks and feels authentic, mainly because of how well they created Rick's, with all the scenery, extras, music, and general feel. The film keeps the viewer informed of what's going on, but without being corny. It's a little sentimental without being hokey.

If there's anyone else out there who hasn't seen it yet, go watch it. The bluray has a whole bunch of extras as well(and it looks great).
