The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (David Fincher edition) - 9/10
I was a big fan of the fantastic Swedish
Män som hatar kvinnor.
It got a 10/10 from me.
Fincher did do a great job with this [unnecessary] remake.
He didn't hold back or water things down for the American audience, not that i'd expect anything less from him.
Production quality and style are two things i've seen mentioned as being better than the Swedish one, and while i would agree, they also had a massive budget comparably, so it'd be pretty sad if they weren't better.
I have to admit that i didn't really see how Rooney Mara was going to pull off Lisbeth as well as Noomi Rapace did, but i was impressed. Mara was excellent.
I personally prefer Noomi Rapace's Lisbeth to be honest as somehow she just seemed to fit the role a wee bit better, but i suspect this is a largely personal preference.
Daniel Craig is an actor i enjoy already, so i also was happy with his performance as well.
Musical score was awesome; as expected Reznor was terrific for that.
But i wasn't entirely happy with this version.
The intro to the movie was ridiculous.
I really cannot understand wtf it was supposed to signify, or accomplish.
Absolutely did not like.
Reminded me of the stupid intros Bond movies have, that have absolutely nothing to do with the movie.
Swedish settings, location, everything, but yay, English-speaking characters, with bad or non-existent accents and occasionally Swedish words tossed in.
This is the largest reason i was not happy when i heard of the remake.
It's a Swedish movie...making it English does not make sense in the context of things at all.
More time spent on the Mikael-Lisbeth relationship. Not sure if this is a good or bad thing, but they definitely did a number of different things on the scenes here.
I really need to read the books as i'm not sure which version does a better job following them.
From what i've gathered, both cover some parts of the book better than the other, and vice versa.
Anyway, overall a good movie.
However just like with Let the Right One In (Let Me In), my recommendation is not to go support American remakes, but rather, watch the original.
