This is the End - 8/10

A couple of times I almost passed out because I was laughing so hard. Jay Burachel's character kinda brought the movie down a bit, but Danny McBride and Craig Robinson were hilarious.

Jug Face 6/10
Surprisingly not bad for a movie about a bunch of backwoods hillbillies that worship a hole in the ground lol. Every now and again the hole that they worship demands a human sacrifice. The sacrifice is picked when the pit possesses the potter and crafts a jug in the shape of somebody's face. Chick sneaks a peak in the kiln and sees that it is her face on the jug so she hides it and all hell breaks loose. For a low budget horror flick it is well shot and the actors for the most part do a good job with the quirky story.

There Will Be Blood

9/10

Story of a oil prospector in the late 1800's through the 1900's. Very good movie, I only give it a 9 because I wish it were at least half an hour longer.

I'm currently watching season 4 of Breaking Bad. So far, I'd rate the show as a whole 7/10. and Jesse Pinkman has to the most annoying character I've ever seen on a T.V show.

Captain Phillips - 8/10

Saw this today. While I greatly admired it in most ways as a piece of filmmaking, it was interesting that I mostly found it really unpleasant to watch. It's very stressful, with no comic relief at all, and I also found I was experiencing a bit of seasickness between all the handheld shots and the movement of the boats. It is pretty deliberately paced, and I thought it would benefit from losing 20 minutes of length. By the end I mostly wanted it to end. I found the ending very moving but was very happy when I got to stand up and leave. I think this is one movie I might have enjoyed MORE watching it at home than in the theater. Despite all of that, it's objectively a very impressive, memorable film and deserves 8/10.

I can agree with this rating. Perhaps closer to an 8.0/10 for me. I never felt seasick. And like Zero Dark Thirty, things didn't get really interesting for me until the Seals showed up and opened their can of bad ass. Impressive stuff.

I watched Man of Steel last night. Kinda torn on this movie. Really nice action and cinematography, but a lot of the dialogue and story was cheesy and almost awkward to watch. If you pay attention to the dialogue, the characters are simply stating their feelings and describing the scene. It's unnatural dialogue, but most action movies are like this I suppose.

I wish the movie was more about Superman being Superman and fighting crime, and less about fighting aliens. This is a fault of many superhero movies. They cover the origin story, then immediately move into the main conflict, stripping the hero of his powers a lot of the time. I wanted to see Superman explore more of his powers, and do less punching and flying people into walls. I feel like they still don't know how to make a proper superhero movie in Hollywood yet.

Ok but is The Dark Knight really a superhero movie? I mean, besides the costume, what makes Batman in the Dark Knight series a superhero? He doesn't do anything your typical action hero can't do. Even his gadgets aren't his own, they have already been developed and he's just buying them. I'm not talking about Batman from the comics, I've never read them. The Dark Knight is more of an action/thriller.

I agree with you on The Avengers though, I forgot about that one.

You can't count The Avengers because those characters stories were already told in completely separate movies. If taken by itself alone, it is no different than any other hero movie in how it plays out (imagine all the back stories in 10 minute intervals at the beginning of the movie).

I actually didn't think this Superman movie was too bad. The problem with Superman has always been, he's pretty much unstoppable from a humans perspective, so you have to put him against non humans. Superman has also always been cheesy because he's a do good at all cost character. At least in this one they did show a bit of grit and angst to him.

Little Shop of Horrors (1960) 5/10

Watched on Hulu Plus. It was pretty bad. What passes for "dark humor" just isn't funny at all.

Wikipedia says the movie wasn't copyrighted because it wasn't expected to be a success; so it entered public domain.

I saw it a couple years ago.

Meh. Not Roger Cormans best work. It was amusing to see a young skinny Jack Nicholson though.

Cockneys vs Zombies 4/10
A couple idiots rob a bank to try and save their Grandfather's retirement home and in the middle of the robbery the zombie apocalypse happens. The story is split between the idiots and the people at the retirement home who are much more interesting. Tries to be another Shaun of the Dead and mostly fails. One thing they do right is the zombies are slow moving.

The Dead 6.5/10
Zombies in sub-Saharan Africa cool. A US military dude is stuck in Africa after the zombie outbreak when his plane goes down. He hooks up with an African military dude and they travel across the country heading to a military base. The zombies are well done as are most of the kills. The cinematography is also really nice and being in Africa pretty and different from your standard zombie movie. The best thing about this is SLOW zombies real slow and they make no noises. They get all their kills by shear numbers, persistence, and/or by being quiet and walking up on somebody. The movie is slow too though and there isn't much character development or dialog but I was alright with all that. In the vast sea of low budget zombie movies this one is pretty good.

Flight of the Dead 3/10
Snakes on a Plane only with zombies. Not sure I really need to say anything else.

Pumpkinhead 2 is now on Netflix. Watched 1 and 2. 2 is horrendous.

So, Pumpkinhead 1 .... I give it a solid 6/10 granted it is a horror classic. I appreciate what it is. It's written and directed by Stan Winston. And he did a pretty good job with it. And I have to give Stan some unshocking creidit. Pumpkinhead's costume is pretty damned sweet.

Pumpkinhead 2 - SUCKS. I basically watched a bit of it and stopped. It sucked.

after earth - 7/10

entertaining movie but definitely forgettable. had some great sound in it though. i was glad it was short, and it felt short. the fake accents that the smith's put on were painful to listen to though, especially jayden.

I only remember one particular death/kill scene in it that I thought was really cool at the time I saw it.
When Pumpkinhead wraps his ginormously long fingers around this guy's head and just pulls it off like a wine cork
. For some reason I was impressed by this. Maybe it was the FX at the time.

Ender's Game - 7/10

I haven't read the book (and sequels) in quite a while, but I thought it was a pretty good interpretation of the book. Sometimes it felt very rushed, which may leave non-book people confused, but I enjoyed it overall. I hadn't watched the trailers (they give away too much), so I was pretty surprised at how many small things made it from book to screen. Some of the dialog was a little goofy.

enemy of the state - 10/10

got it on bluray for like $5 from gohastings a while ago and i hadn't seen the movie in full in ages, just bits and pieces all the time on tv. i really REALLY like the movie and it was cool seeing it in my HT. it's funny too with the whole nsa thing in it and what has gone on the past few months/years. gene hackman is awesome in it and will smith really does a great job. it was funny too seeing skylar from breaking bad as the wife of john voight, i did not remember that at all from before.

The Amazing Spider Man - 2.5/10

I may be too old for this movie. Emo Spider Man didn't capture my interest. His love interest looks 25; she must have been held back several times. At least she rocks a mean mini-skirt at every opportunity.

Everything about this movie is sad.

It's sad to see one-time A listers such as Campell Scott and C.Thomas Howell getting thrown some scrap work.

It's sad to see Martin Sheen and Sally Field agree to appear in a terrible flick for retirement money.

It's sad that such a shallow plot with such a shallow villain could pass even early levels of screening.

And finally - it's sad that James Horner appears to be in decline. I've enjoyed his music immensely over the years, and this is about as generic as it gets. Anyone capable of putting a few chords together on a piano or a guitar could have handed this off to an orchestrator/arranger and had their name displayed on the credits. Whatever happened to great film scores?

Just an all around average movie. The only thing that stood out at all were some of the animal designs.

I'd probably give it about the same. I think they did a fairly admirable job adapting a book that spends over half the time in the main character's head. I wonder if it could have felt more solid if they would've went all Lord of the Rings on it and made it 2.5-3 hours long.
