If you like Jay and Silent Bob type humor, then you will probably like this (I am a huge Kevin Smith fan by the way so..)

I guess it is kind of odd that I like Kevin Smith stoner humor but I don't care for that other stoner humor as I didn't like This is the End. I wonder if it's because Smith tends to go to the extreme... like with donkeys. :p

Planet Hulk - 7/10: Was pretty fun. It felt a lot like John Carter, but I actually enjoyed this more. The whole tournament on a foreign planet thing is kind of fun when done well. Predictable of course, but very watchable.

Justice League: The New Frontier - 8.5/10: Pretty damn awesome. A great blend of characters and I really enjoyed it being back in the 50's/60's made it even better. The end was a bit cheesy, but I really enjoyed everything up until that point.

The DC animated movies seem to much better and darker than the Marvel ones, which I really like. I may have asked this before, but anyone have any others worth seeing? I added Crisis on Two Earths but did not see many others that jumped out at me.

The Boneyard - 8/10: I'd actually seen this before, way back in the day, but did not realize until about twenty minutes in. A low budget horror flick from 1991 which has Mr. Roper and Phyllis Diller in it. There are many dumb gags in here, but there is also some really solid horror with some solid effects. The zombie kids were extremely creepy and effective. It starts a bit boring and is completely absurd at the end, but I kind of love this stuff, so I really enjoyed it.

The Way - 7.4/10 - I liked the completed product, though some parts along the way were a bit tiresome. For what its worth, I much preferred the character martin sheen was playing than the real martin sheen talking about the film in the special features.

The Impossible - 6.8/10 - Not terrible. Some of the wounds were pretty gruesome to me, but im squeamish. I didn't care for how they tried to manufacture tension in the early segment. I think the characters made some silly choices
, like the dad leaving his kids with strangers
, and didn't think the ending outcome was that impossible
(reuniting that is, surviving was pretty impressive though)

If you haven't watched Batman: Under the Red Hood yet it is pretty good and available for streaming.

I thought it was EXTREMELY derivative of both Mask of the Phantasm and The Dark Knight. Reading the synopsis on the back, there's no way to tell that this movie isn't Mask of the Phantasm.

I bought it on-or-around the day it was released. I thought it was a safe purchase because it was getting lots of critical praise and I always liked good Batman stories. After watching it once, I immediately wanted to trade it in for credit somewhere (even if I would only get a fraction of what I paid).

I was not much of a fan of Under The Red Hood. It was ok, but not great.

I loved loved loved Batman: Year One which I think may be the best Batman movie I have seen including all of the live action ones.

Those two and Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker are the only ones I've seen. Year One is the only one I really liked.

curse of chucky - 10/10

what can i say, chucky is back! this movie goes back to it's roots big time and has the same charm/humor that the first 3 movies had, and wasn't just stupid like bride and seed were. it stays true to the one liners given by chucky followed by his laugh. i think my favorite parts of the movie (and the past ones) is when they show chucky in his doll form with a plastic mouth and eyes, then the camera pans back to him and he has his "real" form with a mouth and teeth and eye balls, and no one ever notices it. i also love the scenes where it shows his feet running, or him crawling under a bed real quick, or doing something in the background. there are tons of those as well.

if you like childs play 1-3, you will love this movie. i just wish it was longer to be honest. it even ties into the original story very nicely. i just found myself laughing with a smile on my face throughout the entire movie.

It was done pretty well when you take into consideration what the movie is, and how many in it is. Although I hated 3, and loved Bride and actually thought Bride was better than this, the "reboot that isn't a reboot" actually was quite a bold move and works.

I do have to ask though, did the ending and then the after credits thing confuse you by a timeline at all? I'm still a bit confused because it "looked" like it was the beginning of Bride...but then it goes to him being shipped and is shot..which throws that off.

Since it is Halloween season I thought I'd throw in a gem that some may not have heard about:

Trick 'r Treat - 9/10 I really have no idea how well known this is, but it has become one of my favorite "wow this came out of nowhere" movies over the years. It's set up like a bunch of short stories that take place on Halloween with a main story wrapper, however all the stories within it are related to the main story. It has Anna Paquin in it but the real star is the little bad guy who causes all the chaos.

Captain Phillips - 8/10

Saw this today. While I greatly admired it in most ways as a piece of filmmaking, it was interesting that I mostly found it really unpleasant to watch. It's very stressful, with no comic relief at all, and I also found I was experiencing a bit of seasickness between all the handheld shots and the movement of the boats. It is pretty deliberately paced, and I thought it would benefit from losing 20 minutes of length. By the end I mostly wanted it to end. I found the ending very moving but was very happy when I got to stand up and leave. I think this is one movie I might have enjoyed MORE watching it at home than in the theater. Despite all of that, it's objectively a very impressive, memorable film and deserves 8/10.

Upsteam Color - 6/10

This is one i saw reviewed by a few in this thread before, and KeithTalent suggested i might like.
I really wanted to like it, and the movie was beautifully shot. Very well done.
Actress was fantastic.

I just couldn't really get into it though. Something felt lacking, and frankly, the heavy emphasis on symbolism made it hard to figure out what exactly was going on, and even still i'm not entirely sure from reading what others thought.
I'd need to watch it again, and i just don't think i can get through it again.
I don't mind slow pacing, but without being able to get into it, there's really no way i can spend another 90+ minutes on this one.

As someone who loved The Tree of Life, i guess there are some movies in that vein i love, and others i don't so much...

The Internship - 4/10
Preposterous movie.
Sure, it's a feel good movie about how everything works out for everyone.
What it really is, is a load of crap.
Everything doesn't work out for everyone.
Clueless salemen don't magically get jobs at Google and have everything work out.
It's utter nonsense "comedy" somehow packaged up to sell.

Kings of Summer - 7/10
A pretty decent coming of age flick.

It's no Moonrise Kingdom (that i loved), but it could be comparative to that type of movie. Apparently also to Mud, but haven't seen that yet.

Eastbound and down is always funny in parts, even if the overall story is dumb. They turned Will Ferrell's rick flair car salesman into a super villain in the last season. Funniest, and most disturbing thing I've seen in a long time. Anyways, thanks for the reminder that Season 4 started!

my wife had never seen the old rocky movies so i picked up the collection a while back. we've watched parts 1-4 the past 4 nights, 1 a night, and i hadn't seen these movies in probably over a decade if not 2. classic movies and i totally forgot how part 1 and 2 were. it's crazy how in part 3 you can tell the budget was much higher. parts 1 and 2 hardly even had any boxing in it.

we just finished part 4 and it is pretty much all about boxing and training, and i remember why it was always my favorite one.

Crisis on Two Earths was good, so was Justice League: Doom. Superman/Batman Apocalypse was decent.

The best part of all 3 is Batman being the paranoid sociopath mastermind we know and love :) .

Crisis has him
killing his (more) evil alter-ego, who makes a pretty good argument for destroying the multiverse. That's after he tricked the Flash-alternate into aging himself to near-death. Sucker!

Branded - 7/10 (Netflix streaming) - weird but entertaining film that explains what is "really" going on in the world of brand marketing.

Assassination of Jesse James by the coward Robert Ford - showing on IFC this week - 8.5/10

Details the last months of Jesse James's life, from meeting Robert Ford, a 19-year-old who idolizes Jesse, to the day Ford shoots him. Brad Pitt plays James as a depressed and nearly bi-polar man unable to trust anyone. Casey Affleck turns in the acting performance of his career, attempting to become the hero for killing Jesse after being treated horribly by Jesse time after time.

Runtime is a lengthy 2:40, and the films release was even delayed due to a nervous studio who thought a slow western built on character acting would not do well. The narration during the movie was the only downside for me.

I would bump it to 5 just because of the strip bar scene as there some good hotties in it.
