Been there many times and the beauty and majesty of all of it is unsurpassed. And it stood for almost 1000 years (although with some additional work and renovations). The loss is incalculable and heartbreaking.

Centuries of history literally up in flames and this is all you can offer? I'm not even remotely catholic, but you can go suck dog balls since this is all your 1 functioning brain cell could come up with..
Don't you think your anger is a tiny little bit misguided here?

And right on cue conservatives across the internet have already pinpointed the cause of the fire. Absolutely it’s muslims but you will never hear about it and all reports to the contrary are just to hide the truth.

No really. That’s the prevailing though in every damn conservative site with something on this story.
Can you at least provide a link? Or are you just making this up out of your ass? 🙄🙄🙄

This is horrible to watch on TV, turned it off. 😕

No. Granted, Trump makes some real absurd comments (I've never defended them in any way), It's just not appropriate given what happened here.

Jumping to conclusion as to cause is wrong as well.

Now, if Trump gets on TV, twitter, etc and drops a doozy, by all means have at it.

Don't you think your anger is a tiny little bit misguided here?

Losing the building is bad enough, but I understand that there are a great number of relics inside, which will probably be lost as well.

Very sad. I hope for no injuries.
It's OK, the world's top fire fighting expert is on it:

"flying water tankers" lol.. Truly a man of transcendent intelligence.

Just once, can someone get the man to swallow the impulse to say something idiotic.

Hard to believe this was an accident, how incompetent can you be especially when you deal with such building? But we probably never know how this happened.

Though leaving politics and "who did it" out of it, the shock at seeing those pictures in a way reminds me of seeing the first pictures of the WTC. Aside from everything else, it's a hugely iconic building, one of those that one kind of assumed would be there one's whole life, unchanged. (And just as with the WTC its news I first encounter via pictures on the internet).

At least there's not going to be the associated level of loss of life in this case, of course. Hopefully maybe none at all?

I like how its a moment to be all presidential and shit and he says some stupid inane thing.

Status of the pieces of the cross they believe that Jesus was crucified on, as well as part of the thorned crown that he had, as well as one of the nails from the crucifixion" is unknown, but believed destroyed...I'm sure all the art went up too...hopefully some brave souls scrambled to save some of these relics

My order of stuff to save:
1) Human life
2) Human health
.
.
.
.
7) Manuscripts / Psalters / Codices
8) Tapestries
9) the rest of the art

Notre-damn. 🙁

Maybe somebody saved a relic or two. I hope at least the stonework will survive and be rebuilt-upon. Unless...

"flying water tankers" lol..

Which could knock down stones that are still standing. 🙄

By all means, feel free to start a YATT that will cover his response(s) and people's thoughts about said comments. Seriously, please do so that we can keep this one about the historic loss.

Construction fires in buildings new and old are not unheard of at all.

Apparently they saved pretty much everything, which is good news.

post-fire forensics is generally quite precise at tracking down the origins of nearly any kind of fire. Down to a single oily rag in a trashcan that would have been consumed, most likely.

Also consider how that massive hundred-thousand acre fires in CA can always be tracked back to a single campfire.

Of course, I dont deny that but you dealing with 900 year old building that is famous around the world and important to France, history, you have to be extra careful.

Sure however Notre Dame was also in an increasing state of disrepair which of course increases the risk of something like this happening. I forget what the exact tab of work needed was but I think it exceeded 100M euro. They had gotten some money a few years ago and started some of the most urgent work.
