This was from Albany,Oregon to Los Angeles, California

They lost it for a while as we were told. UPS had no idea were it was. It was scanned in the Portland terminal on the 22nd and didn't get updated till today.

Go to a UPS store and complain, maybe they'll refund you the difference between 2nd day and ground.
If not, then that sucks and it's just another reason I don't use UPS.

Looks more like they shipped it out on the UPS Ground truck than they did lost it. The CS rep probably made that up. Your dad should file for his money back with UPS. Unfortunately, that stuff happens. Back in my shipping days I've had that happen w/ every carrier (UPS, FedEx, PO)

My aunt sent a parcel to Ontario (Canada) 2 weeks ago from California. Still hasn't arrived.

GO USPS!

I'm sure the people in Malaysia and Sri Lanka are wondering where their packages are at this moment in time.

Be glad 'the son that this person you know' got a present.

Cry to someone else.

Weather happens. Try explaining that 'over there' right now.

Hopefully your pity party is over by now.

WTF? He has a perfectly legitimate complaint, UPS seems to have lost his package for nearly 5 days.

I'm sure that's what happened as well. I know these things happen. I have had very good luck shipping with UPS and FedEx / USPS / DHL in the past. It's just that two years ago about the same thing happened between the father and brother in-laws shipping with UPS for a Christmas package. The next two years they shipped with FedEx and this year he chose UPS again with the same result.

LOL.... oh well....

Then maybe he should actually *gasp* call UPS to complain? I know it's a stretch to actually pick up a phone and call but sometimes it has to be done.

How else would he be able to have hot relationship talk with the lady in Sasquatch?

Could be worse. USPS Shipped once shipped a package to the wrong city/state and told me basically "Too bad it isn't insured".

They had been on the phone with them for the last couple days. I have no doubt UPS will update it to ground shipping and refund the diffrence.

Just thought I'd share the holiday shipping madness with this time of year.

Customs build-up during the holiday season and the Canadian postal service have nothing at all to do with the delay, right...

Heres the deal, I work for UPS. Please don't kill me, I didn't have anything to do with your package being lost. But here some info I can provide, just because its called 2nd day air, doesn't mean the package will ever be put on a plane. If it can make it in 2 days via ground, thats the way it will go. Why it didn't make it there on time I can't explain, it could have been any number of things, especially with the holidays in there. The package was not likely lost, at least not in the "we have no idea where that package is" sense. It just probablly didn't get scanned when it left OR for CA. They knew it was in that truck, just didn't have the scan to prove it. While I admit that is a problem, here is your main problem.

With the holidays and all that going on there was almost no way that a package would make it anywhere by Christmas even with 2day air. UPS gives its employees Christmas Eve off, so when it wasn't delivered by the 23rd, it wasn't gonna get there till after the holidays. They should have told you this when you shipped it, and that is where your beef should be. They were probablly just stupid or not thinking or whatever. I am unaware if UPS guarentees its air shipments on time. I know ground is 3-5 days, but they do not guarentee it.

I am not trying to cover up for my company or anything, I am just a low level grunt, so I have no reason to do that. And I do wish things could be done better. But when there is so much competition in the shipping market, they do everything they can to make money and cut costs, and unfortunately stuff like this happens.

My main reason for posting was this. I understand your angry, I would also be angry if my package arrived late. But heres the deal, I have worked for both Fedex and UPS, my father worked for airborne express which is now DHL and he still works there. And I know people that work at the post office. All of these places suck at what they do. None of them can guarentee every package makes it where it needs to go on time and undamaged. I am still watching DHL, they seem to be doing okay. But Fedex and UPS suck. If it was my money and my package I would ship USPS Priority mail or better. From the guys I know that work there, their way of doing stuff seems to work a little better then fedex or UPS.

Oh, I'll let you win the e-c0ckfight. Not that it matters anyway since you'll still be at the flagpole when this message is posted.

Here, have a  and chill.

P.S. I've already donated to UNICEF tonight.

We all understand. No real biggie. This was just a " WTH " type of thread. Father in-law took it to the local terminal so I'd agree that they should have explained like you did and maybe he would have shipped elsewhere or just chose ground.

When I ship from Portland to California it get there ground 2 to 3 days. Not bad at all. USPS would probably struggle even more if they even had 1/2 of the volume UPS has in packages especially during the Christmas shipping crunch.
