Note 4 (now $200 rebate with any $10+ trade-in!)

16MP is better than 13MP but I don't think it will make a huge difference. Image stabilization is the only worthy new feature, but do we want to pay several hundred more for that?

1/2.6" vs 1/3.06" sensor and and F2.0 vs F2.2 aperture should be an improvement as well.

What do you guys think about going back to Micro USB 2.0?

Quick charge is the most important thing to me and that's been improved greatly with the Note 4 so I don't mind at all. I did not use the cable to transfer much if any files at all while I had my Note 3 so I understand them reverting if not enough people used it.

So if 4GB has been confirmed and 32bit isn't a good match for 4GB then perhaps that says the Note 4 will come with Android 5.x which, if memory serves me, is 64bit.

I guess we'll know in a few/dozen hours...

Brian

But I thought the US version was using snapdragon 805? That's a 32bit cpu, if I remember correctly. Even if Android L is 64 bit, it won't be able to address 4gb of ram because of the CPU.

Is the CPU in the international version 64bit?

Yeah I already sold my OPO, the Note 4 is what I'm going with. I miss the S-Pen, and the new features will be put to good use. It's the perfect phone (in my opinion you small screen lovers!) and the one to beat, which I don't expect anyone to do.
I too will say goodbye to my OPO. I miss Touchwiz!:awe:

I returned my OPO so now it's either this or the nexus six. Hopefully the nexus will come in a 64gb flavor. I don't really need more than 32gb but extra room is nice.
I just have to find my old memory card. After having 64gb, I can't go back now.

Once you have more space and use it, it definitely is tough going backwards. I dont know how i would feel about paying $700 for the note 4 though. That's why I'm leaning more towards nexus. I guess I'll wait until they are both out to decide. My m7 has been wonderful but you know I'm getting the upgrade itch now.

Looks like nexus 6 will cost the same price most likely.

because apple announces next week and Samsung wants to be first

While that's true, why not announce closer to launch? By then iPhone stories will be out of the news cycle anyway. Given the lack of leaks surrounding the supposed 5.5" iPhone, it seems like that might not be available any time soon, so it's not as though Samsung has a direct competitor here. Launching later also let's them respond to any of Apple's announcements and frame their device in a better light.

The main problem for Samsung is that Apple will announce their iPhones next week and most probably, have them available on retail shelves and everywhere else (with few million already sold) before the Note 4 even shows up anywhere for sale.

By Oct, the hype for Note 4 will have partially subsided, and it will be all about iPhone availability. I can also see people (many who switched from iOS to android over the last 2 years) who were going to get the note 4, now trying the iPhone 6 (and return within 14 days, if they dont like it). Some of these will end up keeping the iPhone (lost sales for Samsung)

I went from iPhone 5 (in 2012) to Note 2 (end of 2012) to Nexus 5 (in 2013) and was all ready to get the Note 4 this month (and iPhone was not even on my list) Now, I see myself getting the iPhone 6 and trying it out again (entire family has iPhones except me), and might end up keeping it, if I like it (lost sale to Samsung)

That happens regardless of whether Samsung announces now or in a month or so when they can ship. The only difference is that if they wait, they can pitch their device based on where they think Apple appears weakest. Announcing first without being able to move product doesn't get them anything and only gives Apple an opportunity to take some digs at Samsung or try to exploit any of the weak points in their device.

I'm not sure why Apple fans keep thinking that if Cupertino just branches out a bit, they'll sink Android sales - since all customers *really* just want iPhones, and are only settling for other devices because they're stuck on Verizon/big screens/whatever.

I'm sure the 6/6L/Air/whatever will sell a ton, but when the dust clears the market will still be what it was, with Android getting an ever growing share of an ever growing pie.

The Note probably has higher brand loyalty than any Apple line.

Unless Apple make iOS 8 has any of the function of the Note series, and have a pen like Spen, then I think not many people will switch to rumored iPhone 6L.

Is anyone else disappointed in how the back looks? IMO it looks very plain and crude without the stitching. Such an unnecessary thing for them to regress on.

Looks pretty good to me.

It seems like in reviews nobody liked the faux stitching on the Note 3.

Personally, of the many things that might influence my phone buying decision I believe what the back looks like might be last on the list.

But... But... Aren't you worried about what other people will think of you if your phone doesn't look sexy to them?

This is going to retail for 6-700 dollars right?
Think i will stick with my oneplus.

Yea I was looking up figures for the note 4. Looks like it could be $699 or more depending if they have different storage. Likely, the nexus 6 is out in India and is suppose to be $579. But that is mainly since its being made by Motorola.

I need a new phone and if my one plus had not had a really bad yellow screen I would have kept it.

Even if the iPhone were to copy the S-Pen, Multiwindow and the nice sized screen, I still wouldn't give it any consideration because it's still running iOS and not Android.

I agree with s44 in that the big fans of the Note line are probably even more passionate than iPhone fans, it's hard for many of them to even consider other Android phones.

Between glossy plastic, dimpled plastic and this, I can't think of any samsung phone's back material that doesn't get criticized to hell and back.

Looks pretty good to me.

I personally did like the stitching along the edges of the back on the Note 3, but it doesn't bug me if it's there or not for the N4. I'll be too busy enjoying the front of the phone. 😉
