Not sure what to say about the username other than some may find it offensive.

On the other hand, Angrymarshmello's username was originally RagingBITCH and he's merely stating that in his sig. He actually had the handle for close to three years and I believe that the name was changed by the mods at his request.
 
Bitch is not a censored word, hell, they don't even bleep it out on TV. As much as the words might irk you, they aren't offensive.

Actually I don't care, I just don't like the mods being anal about one user's use of foul language or anything else "bad" while someone else gets to do whatever they want. You can't really expect me to believe that this is referring to a dog. Why bitch isn't a banned word, but other words are that aren't even offensive, and that stop someone from even using a word that contains a banned word, is beyond me. If they're picky about things being offensive or not kid-friendly, bitch certainly isn't a word that most people consider polite. And I don't think network TV is allowed to use that word before 9PM.

Oh yeah, get a life? Why not tell that to all the other people who come crying for mods to deal with people who say things they don't like?

Bitch, ass, hell, damn are all words that can be used on the radio or tv. Fvck, Sh!t, Goddman are words that are typically banned from the airwaves. Secondly, it is very simple why some are banned and some are not. Some words have a stronger meaning and some don't. What exactly was the point of this thread, except for you to act like a tattle-tale? You could have asked your question in FI without trying to "tattle" on a member. Why am I not shocked that it was you who posted this... I dunno...
 
I've seen others like "smegma" and somebody with "PO" (an obvious reference to "pissed off") in their username. Those people haven't been banned (yet).

FWIW, people used to be able to use banned words in sigs, but IIRC that problem was corrected in FT4 by the addition of the language filtering rules to the signatures (or something like that).

The whole issue of offensive words is relative, which makes it very hard to please everyone. While some of us hear (or see) "fvck" so much that we aren't really offended by it, others (i.e. my parents) find "suck" (used in the non-sexual way, as in "this sucks") extremely offensive. In the end, it's a judgement call on the part of the Moderators. Given that there are many moderators, and many times of day (and they may or may not have had their morning fill of coffee), the strictness of enforcement varies on occasion. Unfortunately, that makes it hard for us to determine exactly what's acceptable, and what's not. I usually try to err on the side of caution, but not all do; it is important to recognize that there may be a risk for such outbursts.

Just found an example.
Fudssa's sig says, "If you can't stab it then knife it. Or stick it." This is a classic example of getting around the filter in a blatant and obvious "rub it in your face" kind of way. But I will PM it to a Mod so no one knows I was the one that whined.

Oh, and PMing mods doesn't work. I have never once gotten a response to a PM or email to anyone in authority in these forums. The ONLY interaction I ever have gotten has been Zuni telling me off about my posts about the way the forums work.
 
Oh wait, my mistake. I did once get a response from a mod when I bitched about them locking a thread where I asked a question that didn't praise their skills.
 
Hmmm, that's odd. I've PMed mods for help with my account several times and received timely replies and assistance. Latest example is when I had my username changed to Megatomic from SeekingTao. It was 1 hour from first PM to changed username.

I concur.

My experiences with PMing the moderators are limited (in fact, I can vaguely remember the details of both times I sent them a PM about something that I thought might need deleting or locking), but they always seemed to be very responsive and relatively polite (of course, that might have been because I was polite in my requests 😉).

I have never had a problem getting a response from the moderators, and I seriously doubt they like me that much.
