Not too impressed with french press... back to Keurig.

I'm not a coffee snob. Anything but. I'll drink practically anything, including gas station coffee. And I throw sweetened creamer in mine (coffee snobs always insist on black coffee).

I still use a French press because it's actually the most efficient way of making large amounts of coffee with the least effort, taste be damned (as a side note, coffee from a Keurig machine is too weak even for my plebeian taste buds).

The problem with Keurig for me is entirely in the quantity. One k-cup makes one tiny, sad little cup of coffee. I need lots of coffee. So does my wife. To get the same amount of coffee that we make every morning in the French press, we'd have to use at least 4 k-cups. Not worth the time or effort.

The cheapest I've seen k-cups is about $0.50 each, so it would be $2 a day for our coffee. Significantly more expensive than just buying a big bag of coffee from Sam's Club or whatever. Of course you can get the Keurig insert that lets you pack your own coffee into the machine, but then you have to wash it out and refill it every cup, which just adds even more effort and kills the convenience aspect of Keurig brewers (its main selling point).

I suppose a drip style coffee maker would work too but those get dirty very quickly and cleaning them is a bitch. I wash the French press every day, but it's a one-minute job. Also, no need for filters or anything.

So I'm not going to tell you that Keurig machines are bad. They're just not for everyone. If you don't care too much about the strength of the coffee and you don't drink very much (1 small cup a day), they're fine.

Well, to be frank, I'm just disappointed. By the way people foam over how superior french press is, I thought it would be at least marginally better.

It's like poking a hole in a steak.

Anal people will tell you "DON'T DO IT"/HOW DARE YOU/YOU ARE AN IDIOT

While to me, it doesn't matter one bit. I'm simply not that anal about steaks.....and I find people that are silly/funny.

😉

Do you order your steaks well done?

OH GOD

Don't we have some coffee snobs here on ATOT?

I'll add to this...I use instant coffee from Ralphs that was like $2. I dump a bunch of creamer in there so it taste more like dessert than coffee.

You probably just made someone here have a stroke.

you're not drinking coffee

French Press is a bunch of Luddite crap. I've had it made by "experts" using all kinds of contraptions, who all claim how I've never tasted "real" coffee. Still tasted like coffee, only usually crunchier. Its like people who home brew beer that tell you that the sludge floating around the bottom of the bottle shows that "it's honest".

I've ordered coffee from literally hundreds of places in dozens of cities in a dozen different countries. I've never had a "magical" cup of coffee that put all other coffee to shame.

People raving over how you have to have "just the right temperature water" to brew it. How 'bout 10 minutes after you brew it when it has cooled down? How is the taste then? Or half-an-hour later? Or do you have to use a special thermally insulated beverage container? Or maybe you have to chug it within four minutes of brewing to ensure "maximum flavor impact".

I swore that I would never buy a Keurig because it was never too much trouble for me to put down a small pot of coffee. Now I own a Keurig Vue and I love it. Turns on by itself in the morning, takes two minutes to brew a travel mug, and I am out the door. About 60-70 cents per cup.

When I come home, I pull the used pod out of the coffee maker, peel off the coffee grounds and recycle the cup.

Plus, my wife can throw in hot chocolate for the kids, or tea for herself. No mess, no clean up.

Yes, that 10 minutes of my time that it takes to make a pot of coffee and clean-up after the pot of coffee, is worth way more than 60 cents to me.

why would anyone like Keurig and their pre packaged Kcups? Nothing beats fresh ground coffee. And you can grind it yourself easily at home.

the moment you realize your coffee taste buds suck.

The moment you realize that you're a coffee princess.

I love Stumptown Hairbender and other niche coffees. If I have some, or get some as a gift, I will drink on the weekends when I have time. Or when I'm in Portland, I will try to stop by to get a cup. But on weekdays I'm out of the house at 6am. Keurig makes good coffee that is extremely convenient.

And oh, by the way, you can get all kinds of k-cups that are not made by Keurig.

While you're at home making coffee in your Playskool kitchen, I'm stealing your work.

I suppose you eat nothing but meals at 4 star restaurants? Give me a fucking break. He hit the nail on the head of what I was going to bitch about. (Name appropriate)

nope, but I know the difference between an McD burger and a 1/3rd pound prime wet aged burger.

just like i know the difference between real coffee and coffee flavored water.

While you're at home making coffee in your Playskool kitchen, I'm stealing your work.

My god there are some angry people on this forum. It's coffee.

skimple is especially hilarious. "You like something I don't. GRRRRRRRRR, etc".

Dude's post had me rolling.

Since I don't think it's been asked...did you actually use fresh, quality roasted beans with a good course grind in the press?

If not then that's your problem. Bad coffee tastes worse in a press. Good coffee tastes better.

It's called bottle conditioning and a huge number of highly acclaimed styles and brewers do the same.
