Akin’s remarks put a light on the platform’s call for a ban on abortion that otherwise might have drawn little attention. The Republican *National Committee chairman, Reince Priebus, noted that the absolute abortion ban “is the platform of the Republican Party; it is not the platform of Mitt Romney,” though the former Massachusetts governor has said in the past that he endorses identical language.

AKA the war on women.

It is a war on women, but you have it wrong who waged the war..

President Obama officially repeated the liberal idea that staying at home to raise children isn't real "work," and tried to portray himself and Michelle Obama as victims who couldn't "afford the luxury" of Michelle Obama not "working," when their daughters were born, before all of the Hilary Rosen news broke. Obama took an indirect shot at Ann Romney last week when he spoke at the White House Forum on Women.

Which doesn't have anything to do with his comments that rape victims secrete anti-baby sauce.

"absolute abortion ban"

why is that hard to understand?

What is difficult to understand about:

Republican officials said the language in the platform was "100% pro-life" but stressed that the document has to remain vague and avoid specific language about abortion exceptions because different states have varying abortion regulations.

Is it the word vague or exceptions you are having trouble with?

it has everything to do with 'delegitimizing' rape and pushing legislation to remove a persons right to have an abortion if she is impregnated by a rapist.

If it was just a stupid things said by the other party contest I think it is safe to say that could be won with just quotes from Dubya. The question here is about fundamental beliefs that are being translated into bad legislation. He said what he believed and why he supported the bill he just said it poorly. What he believes hasn't changed, his support of the bill hasn't changed. Republicans having a history of people that have believed similar things (to support broad abortion bans) hasn't changed.

Even the party itself when it lays out its platform refuses to take a stand on exceptions for rape and instead says that if a state banned abortion even in cases of rape that would fall in line with their platform.

I wish the republicans could throw out all of the evangelical, social conservative crap. As much as I'd like fiscal conservatives to fix our issues I am more worried about the strangle hold the social conservatives currently have over the party.

Right:

Because posting statistics that prove I am right implies I am ignorant

Posting facts is not trolling. Nor is calling BS on liberal circle-jerks.

But posting constant hate-mongering shit about women, gays, blacks, and anyone else who isn't a white male Christian isn't ignorant. Gotcha.

And where do the words "absolute abortion ban" appear in the Republican Platform?

It doesn't. How about this if a state passed an absolute abortion ban does the platform support that or not? They intentionally left it vague to support any number of exceptions up to and including none. This wasn't an oversight as was already mentioned earlier, they left it vague on purpose. They could call out rape, incest, the mother's life but they intentionally left those out.

So there is no absolute abortion ban. IT allows states to craft laws consistent with the values and needs of their own citizens instead of forcing values onto them.

And maybe they do not call out exceptions, because the party is not really interested in talking about exceptional cases.

Platforms and conventions are basically big circle-jerks. Republicans are much more interested in calling attention to protecting unborn babies then calling attention to exceptions.

Are you really not bright enough to see her point?

Men usually go to war willingly. Women are the innocent victims. Many times they are simply the junk left over from war that too many people don't want to bother with.

You need to buy a ticket to the real world.

Here's a dumb thing said by a Democrat. I guess Democrats are all pretty dumb.

great idea! lets post what the republican platform on abortion is! that way we can all see for ourselves

here is the best synopsis I can find:

http://cnsnews.com/news/article/gop-platform-renews-call-14th-amendment-protection-unborn

a right wing media source! gasp!!

-- “Faithful to the ‘self-evident’ truths enshrined in the Declaration of Independence, we assert the sanctity of human life and affirm that the unborn child has a fundamental individual right to life which cannot be infringed.

-- “We support a human life amendment to the Constitution and endorse legislation to make clear that the Fourteenth Amendment’s protections apply to unborn children.

-- “We oppose using public revenues to promote or perform abortion or fund organizations which perform or advocate it and will not fund or subsidize health care which includes abortion coverage.

-- “We support the appointment of judges who respect traditional family values and the sanctity of innocent human life.

-- “We oppose the non-consensual withholding or withdrawal of care or treatment, including food and water, from people with disabilities, including newborns, as well as the elderly and infirm, just as we oppose active and passive euthanasia and assisted suicide.”

Remember when McCain wanted to insert verbage about exceptions to rape/incest/mothers life ?

GOP had a conniption fit!

And not a word about an absolute abortion ban. In fact the only time they use abortion is with regard to public funding or subsidies for it, or health plans covering it.

Right on all counts. Which is to say the Republican platform would support an absolute abortion ban if a state passed one. Claiming Republicans as a whole support an absolute ban is taking it a step too far but is about the same as calling pro-choice people pro-abortion which is to say when it comes to abortion the debate is essentially broken.

I do agree party platforms aren't worth much, actions are what truly speaks but in this case we were talking about the platform.

3. Whoopi Goldberg on 43-year-old Roman Polanski raping and sodomizing a 13-year-old girl: "I know it wasn't rape-rape. It was something else but I don't believe it was rape-rape. He went to jail and and [sic] when they let him out he was like "You know what this guy's going to give me a hundred years in jail I'm not staying, so that's why he left."

This one is clearly the most appropriate.

But in that case it was also stated by a celebrity who is not an elected official, unlike Mr Legitimate Rape. The only thing in that list that reaches the same level of stupidity is the guy who thought an island could tip over. And at least in that case he didn't offend a huge portion of the population while saying it, he just proved he's stupid.

It's one thing when someone who happens to align themselves with your party says something stupid, it's another when someone in a position of power within that party says it. Rush alone could fill a list with the horrible shit he's said. Hannity, O'Reilly and the rest of Fox News could fill 100 more lists.
