I'll be sure to uncover a manhole in a discreet location tonight, whip out my blackberry and retire at a ripe old age of 28.

Just don't pick the 20 foot deep one, or the one that does not have enough oxygen in it to sustain life, or..........

But here's the thing, don't they keep track of any work scheduled at a specific location? And if so and they find that nothing was scheduled, couldn't the argument be made that the manhole was uncovered by an unidentified party and the city or whoever is not responsible for the lawsuit?

The 6.6million accidents have caused injuries ranging from mild knocks and embarrassing cuts and bruises through to broken noses, cheekbones and even a fractured skull.
If they're going to go to the trouble of wrapping the post with padding, why not at least get it up to head level?

They could just require all pedestrians to wear a helmet.

Girl may be idiotic/unaware (and possibly hot--need better pic 🙁); but if the open hazard wasn't properly marked, then the city and crew are fucked. I'd say the family is probably in the right for this.

I think the fact that this was a fifteen year old female is the determining element in this case.
Didnt we have similar girls in the mid-west taking naps on rail road tracks recently?

There is an app for the iphone that lets you see through the camera and text at the same time.

This girl could have used it 😀

 at all the replies.

An open manhole cover without any cones or warnings is dangerous, period. It doesn't matter what you're doing. What if you're taking a drink of a soda, or a bite of a hamburger?

Freakin' use your brains people.

One has to think that a better approach would be to put sharp spikes on the posts.

Yes, a funny reply. But I still have an overwhelming urge to cry after reading a bit of that article.

Ok, that's it. I stopped reading right there.
Just......at least go there with enough lube, ok?

Also possible that some dickhead wanted to be a dickhead, and stole it for fun, like people who think it's some kind of status symbol to steal street signs.

Whatever the case, watch where you're walking.

This pretty much fits the profile of every teenage girl I've met from Staten Island. If we're lucky, she is too traumatized to speak for the rest of her life.

Staten island girls look like shit with that fake tanner, so this probably didn't affect her appearance at all.

You should have sued the church for allowing God to leave that ditch unmarked.

I want to know who the idiot was that left a manhole uncovered on a sidewalk.

The girl was being a typical teenage girl, nothing more should be expected of her.

I believe they were tanning and fell asleep. For that error, they have no feet. A homeless person took a nap and got killed though.

Don't they usually put up a cage around manholes?
