NOT HOT. netflix delays shipping on purpose

switch to blockbuster.

I did. It's cheap and the moview arrive much faster. I signed up on friday at 10AM, they shipped my movies that day. I got them monday. Since then my movies take a day to get back to them and a day or to get to me. I think it helps that my shipping center is in the same state.(stamford to waterford ~75 miles)

either way speak with your wallet!

I wish that was the case. they got my this morning, and wouldn't ship anything out til tomorrow. and this has been happening for the last 4-5 turn arounds. I've been a member for 5 month and has never had this issue until 3 weeks ago. I can understand if it happens once in a while, or if certain movies are in different warehouses and takes longer to ship. but not when the delay is consistent.

That's about what happened to me. I signed up for netflix in the beginning, and they were great for the first 4 months, then the shipping started to slow down. I canceled. It was getting to be too much hassle and not much cheaper than going to a rental store and renting what I wanted, not some movie 20th spot down on my list. They've probably gotten better by now.

It is now official, on a regular basis, they would receive my returns in the morning, and then by 11am, my next batch of DVDs would be labeled shipping the NEXT day. This never happened before. But for the past 3 weeks, that is all I get. I think they are doing this to people that live close to the distribution centers, another way for them to limit the amount of movies they ship to customers. And if you sent complaints to their customer service, their response are always canned.

Netflix SUCK, I can understand if they are too busy or overloaded, but doing this intentionally is just ugly.

Wait, did I check in on the "NOT hot forum" by accident? 😉

Sounds like the same scenario as "unlimited" broadband internet services, when the distribution network gets a bit loaded-down.

Speaking of which, this is a good reason why "virtual" distribution is so much better than "physical" distribution at times. I can't wait until things like new-release movies are distributed primarily online, first, before any other means. (And by that, I mean legally, purposefully, by their content owners, not in terms of "0-day warez" rips.)

then they can't use the word unlimited in their plans if the movies are available online. unlimited download but only 3 movies per week? hahahha

**MODERATOR: please lock/remove this thread from the Hot Deals forum. I, myself am still trying to figure out which forum this thread would be suited for.

I came to the conclusion, "NOWHERE IN ANANDTECH!!!"

*wa wa wa

Let me guess, you sent your stuff in and they got it this past monday??? They tend to do that when the post office is closed. I had the same issue, this ONE TIME, but I am not complaining about it. I have been a member, with 2 accounts on netflix for the past year, and I have yet to run into ANY trouble with them whatsoever. I live in central illinois, and there is a distro center in St. Louis, so turn around for me hasn't ever gone over 2 days, unless there has been a holiday. If you don't like it, you can always go to Hollywood video or Blockbuster.

It may be because it is being shipped from a different distribution center. That does happen when they don't have the titles you want at your close distribution.

Edit: BTW, Hollywood Video is now Movie Gallery.

We live in northern CA, and have noticed the same increased delay in getting our movies. And for those who are complaining about this thread, there is an accepted precedent for posting "not hot" developments in the status of previously-hot deals in this forum. Think of it as an update on an old hot deal.

Did you just figure it out lately? :Q Too bad, Ive already cancelled my subscription a loooong time ago when I realized theres too much delay in shipment. 😀:disgust::roll:

hmmm, I've got not complaints with BlockBuster at all. I've been going through movies a lot lately (classes have started but nothing hardcore so I have a lot of time in the evenings to watch movies). If I put a movie in the mail today, I'll receive an email tomorrow saying they've received it and have sent out a new movie to me, and I'l receive the movie the very next day (I really hope I didn't just jinx myself). ANyways, I've been probably going through about 20 movies a month for the past few months with no problems at all

My buddy lives in the warehouse where the Netflix distro center is located here in Houston(downtown). They have a drop box too. I dunno what his turnaround is though..

Yup, they did a story on it on Fox 2 News a couple weeks ago. Netflix made a comment saying that they prioritize who gets the movies. The people who do not rent as many movies have a higher priority than the people who get a lot of movies so even if you had it in your queue before the other person you will not necessarily get it before that person. They are trying to be fair to their customers which is BS. Good thing I got out before things started going downhill.

9ball,
Thanks for the info. I can remember back when the AT forums were used for exhanging info for the benefit of all (don't let my registered date fool you 😉 ).
Pay no attention to those who say this does not belong here.
By bringing attention to potentially bad deals, you are saving other forum members money and/or frustration, so that is, in a sense, a "hot deal".

P.S. "Mommy's making a TV commercial!" LOL

Wow, I missed that story. I've been a Netflix member for many years, since almost right after they started, and have had a quick turn around the entire time until the past 4-6 weeks. Suddenly, all my movies get delayed. Also, if they get 3 in at once, they now NEVER send 3 out on the same day, sometimes only 1, usually 2 out, then the last one the next day. It's definitely not due to the post office being closed as some have said, it's consistent, even when I hold onto a movie for an extra day or two more than usual. I guess they have the right to do this and I know they have to make money, but it is disappointing.

I returned 2 movies to Netflix, but they never received them. After waiting about a week, I reported them as lost. "Coincidentally", I got an email the same day from Netflix that the movies have been found. The DC is about 30 miles from my house.

This started happening to me as soon as the monthly fee went down. I'm cancelling Netflix this week. I've tried Blockbuster and they're much, much faster.

Netflix also puts new customers ahead of old cutomers. If its nice and fast youll stay a member longer. Once you're a member used to getting dvds, they slow it down and tease you with the good stuff. Feeding the addiction.

How are people so free as to watch these the same day and send 'em back. I always keep mind for a few as well.

Who says we have to watch them before returning them? 😉 I'm on the rent now, watch someday plan.....

The center is only 3 miles from my house. I would send them back in the morning, they would have them the next day and ship them out. 2 day turn around. Now, it takes 3-4 days.

I've been a Netflix member for almost 5 years now and I honestly can't say the service has gotten any worse during that time. If anything, it's gotten faster and more reliable. Not saying the rest of guys haven't had a bad experience but it's definately not an across the board thing.

I have experienced exactly the same thing. Originally, I was getting around 20 movies a month, which made the service a real bargain. Now I'm down to around 12 a month. If it drops any lower than 12, I'm quitting.

This reminds me so much of the Fair Access Policy implemented by DirecPC. There was a class action lawsuit on that, and we won, or I should say our lawyers won. I and many thousands of others only received pennies on the dollar while the lawyers undoubtedly got fat and rich....
