NOT HOT. netflix delays shipping on purpose

It is now official, on a regular basis, they would receive my returns in the morning, and then by 11am, my next batch of DVDs would be labeled shipping the NEXT day. This never happened before. But for the past 3 weeks, that is all I get. I think they are doing this to people that live close to the distribution centers, another way for them to limit the amount of movies they ship to customers. And if you sent complaints to their customer service, their response are always canned.

Netflix SUCK, I can understand if they are too busy or overloaded, but doing this intentionally is just ugly.

This has been reported by many members before. I don't like what they're doing. I myself can't put forth the effort to watch so many movies a month, so I keep my discs for several days at a time. Calling them up to complain might yield a more sympathetic ear, but other then threatening to go to another service, I don't know what can be done.

Blockbuster does the same thing. I live in Minneapolis, there is a distribution center here and it takes them 4 days to get me the next movie AFTER they say it has shipped. Funny, all other mailings in the metro area take one day!

OMG! Alert the media right away!!! Call your attorney!

Not an attorney myself, but I do work for an international law firm. I doubt I nor anyone else have a case here, unless someone within netflix is willing to spill the beans or leak some software codes, cuz I am sure its build into their system.

are you sure this wasn't because of the holiday.. i mailed out a couple movies on saturday, they received them on monday somehow. And they shipped the new ones on tuesday, since there was no mail on monday.......

I wish that was the case. they got my this morning, and wouldn't ship anything out til tomorrow. and this has been happening for the last 4-5 turn arounds. I've been a member for 5 month and has never had this issue until 3 weeks ago. I can understand if it happens once in a while, or if certain movies are in different warehouses and takes longer to ship. but not when the delay is consistent.

There is no possible way you were able to type that with a straight face.

I am sure they would love it if I cancelled my account, cuz they are not making any money off my account at the previous rate of returns (about 20 per month). damn BB, why can't they get better, its not like they don't have the resources.

How are people so free as to watch these the same day and send 'em back. I always keep mind for a few as well.

whoa! netflix bad and evil ? whoa, we have distribution centers like 40 min away when i return they get it and next day i have my dvds...well i sign up when they were starting out and then i cancel and came back for a month for 10$ and they still were shipping fast...

maybe they changed the way they process the order internally so that it isn't ready until 3rd shift or something.

in any rate, who cares, get out of the house for a day or 2.

I remember the first couple of weeks with blockbuster I was burning through them like a madman. Every other day i'd watch a movie. A couple times I sent them back the same day. Now I'm just an average customer. That's what they want. Honestly, I would call to complain. Maybe even cancel it & come back in a bit. Get a free month from bb, & try some of the other services at the same time. No one has the attention span, nor the hard drive space to continue at a crazy pace.

They ALL *have to do* the same thing. It is not profitable for BB, Netflix or WalMart to send you 30 movies per month, every month. Running the distribution, buying new DVDs, staff cost, etc etc etc have to be paid for somehow, and a profit would be nice, eh?
There are theories and analysis out there that document intentional shipping delays, but they all come to the same conclusion: they have to put in delays if you rent SO many movies. I can't blame them, I'd do the same thing.
And they probably can't really document this in a clear manner because I'd wager they tweak this system a lot, and it's not really clean cut. They should put a blurb out there saying that they'll potentially choke delivery so they can remain profitable. I don't think that's asking for too much from a consumer standpoint. They probably don't do it because if people don't see "unlimited" as in Chinese Buffet, they don't want to pay for it. A sad state of affairs, if you ask me; not sad because Netflix does this, sad because everything needs to be unlimited because people are just out for themselves. Ok, got the suit on.. flame away.

Blockbuster is doing the same now, too. The first 6 weeks I got 31 movies (plus 4 in-store rentals = 35) with 3 holidays: Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Day. The next month I got 16 movies in the mail, plus 2 in-store rentals. The pace so far this month is the same again. It's still worth it to me. Using the in-store rentals for games makes the movies by mail practically free.
