NOT HOT any more - Newegg Customer Service

Newegg used to have excellent customer service. Apparently, they don't care any more.

I ordered a case with a power supply from then last week. They shipped the wrong case - one that doesn't have a power supply. So I called them on the phone. They said they were out of the case I ordered, and all I had to do was send the mistake back for a refund. But that meant I would have to take time off work and ship at my expense. I said that wasn't acceptable. So the rep put me on hold, then came back and said I could have a refund AND keep the case.

I let it go at that, until I tried to figure out how I could get a case and finish my build. Their Web site says it takes 2 -3 days for credit to be issued, then another 2-3 days for your credit card company to post it. I called back and spoke to a supervisor, and she told me that was all they could do.

So I called back at the end of the day to check whether the credit had been processed, and found out that it hadn't, and that they were refunding the purchase price but not the shipping. So I've got a useless case and my money is tied up with them, preventig me from buying another case. But worst of all, their error is costing me $15!

First, brag and moan.

They shipped the wrong case - one that doesn't have a power supply

Second, I dont feel that bad for you. Why not just buy a power supply? Sounds like a hot deal to me.

You are aware you can just buy a power supply, right?

I think NewEgg did a good job of correcting their mistake. You got a case for $15 basically. It's the case you wanted (sans power supply). Just go to CompUSA or something and buy a garbage power supply. That's likely the quality of PSU that would have come with the case anyway.

Since when does it cost $15 to ship a case anyway? Did you buy anything else along with the case?

The case I was supposed to get came with a 350W power supply and sold for $25 plus 15 shipping. The one I got is not just the same case sans power supply, it is another case altogether. Sure I can buy a power supply locally, but not for $25. And my billing cycle closes before the refund will hit.

Which case was it? Did you look at the photos of the case before you ordered it? Are you positive you ordered what you thought you ordered? Newegg is probably the best online store for showing you what you are going to get in the package. Almost all of the cases for sale there show if they have a power supply or not. Everything I have ever received from them looks just like the photos. Companies do make mistakes but it sounds like Newegg took care of you IMHO.... I have used Newgg for years and have not had a single problem.....sorry about your luck...

M

Seriously.. the $25 will buy you a crappy power supply, like the one that would have come with your system, in many online stores.
Your billing cycle.. are you seriously complaining about this? I mean, if you had no plans to pay your CC before end of cycle, you'd pay interest. If you had plans, you pay it anyway, right?
You're out nothing, really. Stop bitching. They treated you very well.

I looked at the case. They sent the wrong case. All you who thing it is a good deal for me to pay $15 for this mistake are welcome to take it off my hands!

So, let me get this straight.... you are whining because new egg gave you a free case and all you had to do was pay shipping? Sounds like a hot deal to me! Besides, if you were buying a case w/PSU for $25 A: it had to be a crappy case and the case they accidently sent you would almost HAVE to be a better one and B: if a $25 case comes with a PSU its a PSU thats not worth having in the first place. Grow up, stop whining and buy a descent PSU for that nicer-than-you-ordered FREE case.

Oh @ Mucker
Newegg only has two cases that cost $25 w/$15 shipping and a 350watt PSU so it had to be one of them. here they are:

and

newegg has made some refund credit mistakes on my transactions with them but they worked them out after i called them up about it. compared to some other retailers online, they're generally a step above some of them... so far at least...

you can get a Sparkle Power "Power Q" 300W for 23 shipped from newegg. It will probably also be better than the 350W you were getting with that case.

WTF, they make up for the mistake by giving you a FREE case minus shipping and you still are not happy! Keep the case and buy a seperate power supply. Also it does take several days to get a refund on a CC in most cases. I think you are being totally unreasonable. Just be glad you weren't dealing with Tigerdirect or some place like that. Obviously Newegg made a mistake but they made up for that and you should be happy. BTW this is not the right thread for this post, take it to brag and moan!

Sorry, folks, I can't agree with any of you that this guy got a good deal.

He had to pay $15 for something he didn't want.

OTOH, this thread doesn't belong in Hot Deals.

i agree... especially to the second part... does NOT belong in hot deals. sorry to hear about your bad luck thoe. i have having to pay for stuff i don't want... no matter how good the deal was.

I can't believe some of you people. It is possible for even Newegg to make a mistake. There is absolutely no business that can claim to be flawless.

They sent him an entirely different case without asking him if it would be ok. Now if it was an Antec Sonata to make up for it or something like that I could understand you guys calling the OP a whiny biatch. At least they should have e-mailed or called him to tell him what they were gonna do for him.

Also, to whomever it was that asked since when did shipping a case cost $15.00, where have you been? Newegg is even one of the cheapest at shipping cases and theirs is still roughly $15.00 per case. If you look at other places its even more. Going based on weight alone you should've known better than to say that.

And yes this should be in Brag & Moan.

Well, you are certainly right to be PO'd if that is what happened! I would not be happy either! But to turn a negative into a positive, you can get an Antec 400W here http://www.atacom.com/program/print_html_new.cgi?cart_id=8846130_68_203_174_114&Pagecode=SEARCH_ALL&Item_code=POWS_ANTE_X4_12&USER_ID=www

$40 dollars shipped. This is a great power supply and will run all the upcoming Video cards nicely. $55 for a case and this power supply is a good deal! It is a pretty decent looking case....you would pay only $15 more than you were going to, but have a premium power supply!

mucker

Just don't buy from them again to protest this horrible crime they have commited against you. May they suffer eternal damnation in hell for causing you all this trouble. BTW, what case did you order?

Question, how do you plan on buying an entire system if even 40 dollars ties up your credit card? I don't see how the CC thing surprises you. Buy another case now (since you mentioned your billing cycle is over) and by the time this one goes through, the refund should already be there.

Btw, this might have been a mistake, which is unlucky , but even so, you can't possibly believe other retailers would've treated you better can you?

I can't believe somebody with 700 posts on this mostly intelligent board, would create a thread in the wrong forum, to whine about a $15 - (value of case) deal in which newegg imo did a satisfactory job compensating you. Of course I'm a hypocrite for being dumb enough to waste time to write this response since I'm annoyed that you don't have a very worthy legitmate complaint.
