Like I said earlier in this thread, between Black Friday/End of December.

Source: Dad is a senior scientist in the ATI division of AMD.

I question the authenticity of this entire statement. You have less than 50 posts on the forums here, which in itself doesn't mean much but your post history raises some serious questions about your knowledge and origins.

http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?p=31556178&highlight=#post31556178 Here you are saying you're excited for Bulldozer, Ivy Bridge, and 22nm CPUs. Intel has 22nm CPU's and lays claim to Ivy Bridge. On top of that, you're running an Intel CPU. Your dad is a senior scientist at AMD, yet you are gaming with an Nvidia card and Intel CPU? That is exactly the same as your dad working for Ford, but you have a chevy and toyota. Further, you don't even have Windows 7????

http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?p=32194588&highlight=#post32194588
Again, your dad is a senior scientist and you claim to have no idea how it will perform?

http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?p=32232861&highlight=#post32232861
You're buying a 2500k cpu now? Really? Your Dad seriously must hate his job and the products his company puts out. Wouldn't the family discount alone make it all the worthwhile to get a Phenom II to tide you over until Bulldozer? Furthermore, wouldn't you have a good indication as to how Bulldozer will perform? At least enough to wait on whether to buying the 2500k until Bulldozer is out?

...... 🙁 I may have. But he does say in third or fourth post that his dad works for AMD.

Don't worry tviceman, my sister is banging the head marketing director at Nvidia and she told me that Nvidia gtx6xx cards will use 4 watts of power and be 2x faster than a gtx590.😛

On topic.
I hear there might be a handfull of 7970 cards out before Christmas.

Paper launch from the looks of things. VP gets fired for problems in Glofo ramping production. TSMC is having difficulties with 28nm.

If it launches, get them fast, cos low supply = price hikes.

I look at the fab issues with GloFo and TSMC and is there any hope for catching Intel for these fabless companies? They should thank their lucky stars that Intel hasn't figured out how to build a competitive GPU architecture.

Fudzilla

Professional graphics may launch in 2011

"We all know that 28nm from AMD has been demonstrated and that AMD is doing quite well with the chip, but it looks like it’s the fab that is holding things down. Reportedly, both TSMC and Globalfoundries have serious issues with mass production of 28nm chips and the yields are simply not there.

Our sources are saying that to their knowledge, AMD's Southern islands 28nm are going to ship next year, most likely in early Q1 2012 and this goes for both desktop and mobile chips. Professional graphics based on 28nm has a chance to ship in this year, but this is something that will be decided at a later date.

Nvidia has already said that they will ship in 2012, meaning that the new architecture codenamed Kepler should start shipping next year. The company also went on record and said that Kepler 28nm production starts this year, but it refered to actual chip production, with no comment on the actual market availability or retail / OEM products.

AMD might actually launch at some point in Q4 2011 but with current yields, we would expect that the product would be sold out and literary nonexistent all the way to Q1 2012 when they expect to ramp up production. AMD did this last year with Northern Islands, Radeon HD 6000 series, and it was almost impossible to get the card throughout Q4 2010. The big issue is, once you launch the new generation, sales of the previous one take a serious hit."

Looks like no HD7000/Kepler in volume until Q1 2012.

Its fudzilla so that automatically makes it suspect IMO

Personally, I don't believe much of anything on that site based on their track record and i'm no rush for new graphics anyway.....crossfire 6970s in 1 and a 580 in the other 😎

I know this is a joke but how can you post this without obligatory pics of the sister. You're a cruel person.

Looks like I might as well wait until next year to build my new rig...

In other (semi-unrelated) news, both TSMC and GloFo are joining to create jobs here in New York, mostly in the Hudson Valley area.

I applied for a Mechanical Engineering position at the Fab 8 facility in Malta, we'll see if they request an interview...

Too bad Fuad can't spell worth a damn. What the heck does "literary nonexistant" mean, anyway?

(And, yes, I know he meant literally, but come on, this man writes for a living and makes that sort of mistake? Guess it just goes hand in hand with the rest of the Fuad crap.)

Ok first off, my computer technical skills are VERY limited, point-in-case:last week I had to ask members on these forums how hard it is to build your own computer. I've ONLY begun to take an interest in my dad's work a month ago after I concretely decided I need a new PC.

I currently have an Intel processor (920) and gtx 260 because I bought it from cyberpowerpc 2 years ago when they had a special sale going on. I've never built my own computer, and the idea of doing it for my next one still scares me. The AMD employee discount wouldn't have applied to me.

Matter of fact, my next video card is a gtx 580 because the high-end AMD GPU architecture won't be available for purchase until the Spring, and I'm not interested in waiting for the low-power consumption equivalent of a 6970 for this winter and I wanted the best GPU for upcoming games without going xfire/sli.
*Btw if my dad did work at Ford i'd still never buy a Ford.

You mention I'm buying a 2500k which I did originally intend on doing, but in a topic under general hardware yesterday I clearly state I am waiting for Bulldozer now, even bought a Asrock professional 990FX motherboard for it ahead of time. I will be using the employee discount on this cpu 😀

Btw my dad really doesn't know much about Bulldozer when I asked him, he had more information on the next CPU called Veeshera? Something about how the GPU hes working on will work very well with that CPU. Keep in mind he works at ATI so he has minimal contact with the cpu department.

Now, because no doubt this post will get called out for BS, when I visit home next month, I will grab a bunch of my Dad's AMD employee papers, folders, etc... and sign NEUTRALMAN@ANANDTECH on them and upload pictures here so I can defend my credibility and stop wasting time writing these long defense posts. This entire exercise has taught me a valuable lesson to just keep my mouth shut in the future.

How about you do one better and tell me when I can expect the 7970 to drop 😎 PM me, I won't mention a word to anyone. Promise. I just want to know if I should wait for that card or jump on a 6970 now for BF3. It's agonizing.

I know I know, buy now, don't play the waiting game. I'm also a guy that bought an X1800XT 3 weeks before the X1900XT came out.

Don't EVER do that. You have nothing to prove to anonymous people on these forums. And you could maybe even get your dad in trouble.

Looks like things at AMD aren't so great. Between this and the utter failure of the Bulldozer launch......yikes.

Don't buy the marketing spin that it is because of demand for the 6 series.

I have to agree. If things were/are on schedule, we should either have just heard about launch dates for the 7xxx series or be a few weeks off that time window.

AMD must, as we Norwegians say, get its finger out of its ass and start working.

They can't really do anything if the fab facilities are the ones having the problems. Now whether or not that is the case I have no idea, but sometimes things are out of the hands of the chip developers. They are dependant upon the manufacturers (TSMC and GloFo).

DO NOT DO THIS!! Unless you want you father to get reprimanded for leaking information.

Don't bend to the will of random people on the web.

If fab difficulties is the issue, they better fix that. Im not going to bother waiting for explanations of why and how etc when i decide to buy. It will be a decision based on price performance and noise.

AMD could have a headstart, but if they fail and it turns out to be another 580 versus 6970, my money will be on the former.

This entire argument is silly. Just because my father is a physician doesn't mean i'm an expert in medical matters. Christ. Just because his father works in the technical field (at AMD), doesn't mean that his children will inherit all of his knowledge.

And definitely don't share your personal info, its not safe to share that stuff and more importantly, there's no need to prove yourself to anonymous people on the internet.

You shouldn't post personal stuff that can potentially get you or your father into trouble. The point I was making is that you can't hop onto forums and make claims like "my dad is vp of such and such" in the same week as saying you're using your dad's competitor's products and feign to not have much knowledge in the entire area you are posting in. Doing so immediately draws into question your credibility.

You need to ask your dad if he minds that you are prone to telling the world the work-related information he tells you at home in what he probably thinks are personal conversations between himself and his family.

Were he to be aware of your online posts, he might choose to withhold some info from you since you apparently can't be entrusted with it.

If you do this...the consequences will never be the same 😀

Seriously though, listen to the others who are cautioning you against this. It will not end well, not for you and not for your father.

Whats hard to believe about that. Should a UPS driver force all of his children to use UPS?

Why not? AFAIK, it's ok to get discounts for family and friends. There's a limit to how much refund he can get in a calendar year, so he can't go crazy on ebay or something...
