Nook Color 2 = Beast mode Kindle Fire + $50

Awesome. Great alternative tablet to the Fire. Moms will get the Fire. Enthusiasts and hackers will get the Nook2. Unfortunately for B&N, there are way more moms than enthusiasts.

Looks like Samsung just got priced out again. 🙂 And RIM just lost all hope with the Playbook.

Give customers a little credit. They're smart enough to know that 1GB is greater than 512MB and 16GB is larger than 8GB. The Nook Tablet is going to sell well to mom's just as well as the Fire.

Pretty much. 😛

Clinches the deal for me though, I'm buying the Nook. 🙂

Not really, the Tab 7+ is Exynos powered which makes it a good deal at $400. The Transformer on the other hand is now priced way out of it's league.

Is this confirmed? Last articles I saw said it was an unidentified dual core CPU . . . if it was Exynos, I would think Samsung would highlight that.

Yes, Samsung confirmed it for Anandtech earlier today. It has the exact same 1.2ghz Exynos SoC found in the Galaxy S2 which makes it the most powerful Android tablet on the market.

Sweet. I have a feeling both the Fire and the NC2 will sell well, which will put pressure on other tablets to bring the prices down to Earth.

hrm, I might have to cancel my fire pre-order. actually, I should just cancel it because it won't have a stable custom rom for a while anyway =/

Anyone wanna bet that the community will have custom ROMs available within a week of it's release? This is gonna be a rooter's paradise.

Yep, the micro SD card makes a big difference too...
For me it doesn't so much. I'd be streaming stuff from my computer or online mostly. Just need some picture space, and at 1024x600, it won't take up much space. I'm far more intrigued by the doubling of system ram.

Though, if I recall, the msd card made for easier rooting? or something. One thing the Fire has for me is streaming from amazon prime. I really wish amazon would just release an app like the kindle apps.

stable AOSP? That is what I'd like to see =) though, for amazon that would kinda defeat the whole streaming prime for me, heh.

I'm fairly sure that the Nook Tab will have its own streaming through Netflix.

I think I just found my first Android tablet. At least for personal use. I have a few Android tablets and PDA sized computing devices. But those are for enterprise and cost $1500-2500. Fun part is dunking those Android PDA's in water to test their waterproof claims. 🙂

Well now that all the devs just moved to the superior nook tab . . . 😉

Not all of us 🙂 (though 9-5 I'm a Windows developer not linux or mobile)

I still see the Fire doing much better than the Nook Tablet because:
- It's $50 cheaper and for consuming streaming media the Fire is just as good.
- If you shop at Amazon more than B&N (which is true of most people) then having a player for your Prime free videos and now free books, as well as your purchased books, music and movies / TV, just makes more sense.

I don't have netflix. I actually cancelled it, heh. It's not a make or break feature, just a "wish I had" but given I can stream stuff over webOS on the touchpad from amazon's site, I figure I can do that worst case.

Decisions, decisions.

agreed. and with more out there, I'm thinking the Fire will get a custom rom first. But looking at my coworkers original droid, the smaller ram feels it'll be limiting down the line

I think I might be getting this. I like that the Nook has a unique look to it unlike the fire which looks like a generic black slate. Microsd and 1gB of ram is great too. Well worth the $50 difference.

All it needs is a hack for NetFlix, and it's nearly the perfect 7" tablet.

Well I found my wife's Xmass gift. She wants something to read books and magazines on. I will gladly pay 50 dollars for a SD card slot and 8 GB more on board storage. I am a prime customer and the streaming videos would of been nice. But I can not have a media device that has 8 gigs of storage that is a deal breaker.
