I give it three to four weeks tops before most schools cancel all in person learning, cancel all athletics, and force students in campus housing to go home.
I've been saying to my co-workers that it'll go until either a Faculty or a student dies. I don't think our leadership will pull the ripcord until then.

Imagine 'em all on ventilators, Barty.

That's the problem, they will all be fine while the moment you step out of hiding you catch it and get amputations and stuff while those people point and say it is all fake.

Totally never thought this would happen from a major crisis (/s)

I am in the didn't affect us at all category of work, barely an inconvenience, in fact we have been hiring this whole time but that is for skilled labor that are well above the $32/hr level. Another record year for us most likely. I am definitely thankful that I am not in one of the basically shut down industries.

It's because the rich got bailed out yet again in the stock market. If the Fed hadn't stepped in and bailed out those 10 to 1 massively leveraged hedge funds, you've seen some real fireworks. The rich have their money in hedge funds and real estate. I would've liked to seen those stupid funds blown up but you'll never get that because the system is rigged in the favor of the rich. Rich write the rules and govern. Fed saved the day once again.

Pretty much same.

Initially we thought it would effect our sales - so they put hiring on hold. Initial thoughts of potential layoffs - but after quarterly earnings recently it is shown to be barely an inconvenience. Were right at par of what our yearly expectations were pre-covid numbers.

Oil is hurting bad though, been a number of layoffs in my neighborhood since were near a coast.

I agree with you! This is great news!

Yup. Campgrounds are packed. Everyone is going camping. Which is why I'm not going. And why I decided not to buy RV for now.

Honestly if I was made to pick somewhere to go right now I think it would be NYC. Rock bottom positive rate, strong mask game, probably 25% of residents had the virus so some herd effect, good food, good weather, incredibly cheap hotels.

RVs are in short supply now I hear. People are using them as quarantine houses, or escape from city houses. And at least one of my co-workers is running his WFH setup out of his RV which is a pretty good use for it.

I would love to go somewhere more north, but since were so far south it would require flying... which is what I'm definitely not willing to do right now.

While I don't think flying is a no risk activity I think that it's probably low-moderate if everybody is masked. I might fly Delta who will actually turn the plane around, kick people the hell off, and ban them from the airline if they don't follow policy plus blocking middle seats.

For personal travel, I strictly fly Southwest these days. They have been an overall class-act unlike the big AA and United that can die in a fire.

Alright this was funny, they were talking about the irony of them having that biker convention.....

There's literally no one in the pictures/videos they show wearing masks or social distancing much

And them having Drowning Pool doing a live concert there.....

Performing.... "Let the Bodies hit the floor" lol

I'm not quite in the didn't affect me category yet, but working in local government, our budget does not look good. I wouldn't be surprised if we let go of a few staff members, nor would I be surprised if I got laid off or demoted next year or the year after. Government takes a long time to recover from something like this.

Yeah I am looking pretty apprehensively at the gov threatening USPS funding that would hurt severely.

Quite possible. One hell of a hoax we got going. All to unseat our beloved Trump. Conspiracy, yup. People are awful.

My worst CS experience ever (not just flight) was from Delta. Never again.

10-15 years ago I'd agree. I've flown on them a bit the past couple because it was the best option to avoid an extra leg and had good experiences. Certainly better than I'm accustomed to on AA as an elite.

True. This happened in 2004, I believe.

I relayed what you said here to my cousin in NY. He has a rent controlled apartment in Manhattan but has been holing up at his house in Poughkeepsie. So, I asked him why he doesn't consider staying at his apartment in Manhattan, at least part time. He responded:

"No movies, theaters, museums, dance recitals, riding on subway/buses is
still not recommended, recently management increased the restrictions on
use of the elevators . . . I am not sure why . . . however that is
worrisome, the homeless, some of whom I recognize, look even worse. New
York City doesn't look so good to me. I went in at the end of July. I had
to submit some forms to the housing management. The city looks much
emptier. Last weekend I learned that on the upper west side, some empty
hotels are now being used to house the homeless. (They do need shelter,
but concentrating them in a upscale neighborhood without providing
additional resources, makes for many very frightened/angry people.). I'll go into the city again, but not to stay for long."

"I'm better off in Poughkeepsie. I hope you are doing well and staying
safe."

So I did stop by a Stein Mart earlier today. I haven't been to one for years, if ever, and now I know why they are out of business. Clothes are expensive comparing to TJ Maxx and Ross. Everything is 10% now off but still too expensive. You can get a shirt at TJM or Ross for less than $20 while a similar shirt at SM is $25 or more, even with the discount.

Manhattan seems to be faring the worst since a big chunk of people bolted to 2nd homes and have remained there plus the absence of all the commuters. Lots of business won't survive without residents at least. Brooklyn for example does not appear to be suffering from the same situation.

Personally my fear of virus on transit is very low. I've looked at the studies and as long as basically everybody is masked it's a fairly acceptable risk. I'd be much more hesitant to dine inside which is not allowed there anyway.

Also Cuomo says Museums can open on the 24th.

Yeah a substantial number of businesses rely on daily commuters. they sell coffee and donuts and at the end of the day, beer and burgers. If you take the commuters out of New York is looks more like Des Moines.
