Shits about to get real yo.

I don't think a lot of people would argue that The WHO isn't flawed and not in need of reform but this is just malicious petulance that serves nobody.

Mmmm, to be honest - I think the reforms that things need are so massive... similar to cops... that the only thing that ever seems to work is taking away their candy-jar of funds for them to ACTUALLY make REAL change.

Not bullshit change. Not crap change... ACTUAL change.

The primary complaint these days seems to be that China has too much influence in the organization and we've decided to remedy that problem by ensuring they have...way more influence than before. This does not make any sense.

With the amount of money we contribute (roughly 1/5 of the entire WHO budget) - I highly doubt China would take up the tab - and if they did their influence would quickly diminish from anyone else still in it as others probably follow suite.

After things like this pandemic, I'm sure we aren't the only one that calls their worth int oquestion.

But maybe I'm wrong - to your point.

Our annual contribution is under a billion dollars so that would seem to be money Beijing could easily find.

More broadly I think the decision dovetails with the belief in the administration that missions like The WHO that aim to improve the non-US parts of the world (Israel being a notable exception) and prevent bad things from happening are simply a waste of money.

Just bald faced lying here from a lead US health offical. I appreciate the importance of in person schooling but don't lie that there aren't going to be consequences. At least 600 healthcare providers are dead from COVID with many more hospitalized or otherwise impacted.

Azar is a total tool flunky, has been all along. It's the one reason he hasn't been fired. Incompetence is requisite to be in the greasy bone spurs backlash potus's non-administration.

The Trump admin could have taken a less drastic step like cutting our contribution by even 50% and made their point (to the WHO), though that wouldn't be enough for his base, I suppose.

Yeah I guess ultimately my problem with shit in life as of the last 5-10 years is just nothing but finger wagging. It gets old and accomplishes nothing.

I can't imagine that playing golf, and everyone is masked, represents any king of significant risk.
I played in a foursome a couple years ago and distributed N95's to my partners. There were wildfires burning nearby. I haven't played this year. I miss it some, don't know when I'll get back to it. I will wear N95 if it is this year.

100% correct and that characterizes the monster-in-chief nicely. His motto appears to be Destroy America, F_ck the World.

I watched a bit of the WH event on reopening schools and it essentially boils down to "Let's just do it and be legends".

Very little to nothing about the how of accomplishing that with reasonable safety. Unfortunately the trend of the current gov to just try short cutting to the result you want without doing any of the work to get there is likely to continue, which is bad news for all of us.

Effective risk education is admittedly tricky but it can be done.

The health establishment should shoulder some blame for the mask debacle but certain politicians really fueled up the full on crazy into what it is today.
We all know that they told people not to wear masks because they were desperately needed by front line health care workers. There was the fear that the public would buy them or continue to hoard them if they didn't go on record saying they were no help to the general public. It was quite a few weeks later when they started to say that you should wear some kind of mask BUT NOT N95, because they should only be worn by the front line workers. So, you began to see tons of people wearing creative masks, some even bandanas (I still see those). They should never have said that wearing some kind of mask, any kind, wouldn't help. Deception and lies have become an epidemic of their own under this lying president's administration. You could see this coming from the start.

... but ... Government knows what's best for you....

Usually they don't. But government is necessary. They do the things that others won't, but need doing anyway. We could really use some effective governmental action now... well, more is coming from local jurisdictions than the federal.

This really is the only way for them to get the message. WHO will make changes and USA will join again.

You know shit's getting real when your kids actually want to go to school...
My daughter likes school. She's taking her ACT next Saturday and we have plenty of disposable and cloth KF94 masks she can wear. We just received another batch of disposable KF94 masks from her aunt in SK today.

NJ just made wearing mask outside a must! Our cases are on the rise again. Much of this has to do with people who don't care. They are walking around with no mask. No social distancing. It's like COVID19 wasn't even a thing.

This is going to be a constant thing.

What was once a NE problem is currently a southern state thing.

Next it will just continuously rinse and repeat.

Anyone who thinks that the place they live has it figured out and that it's not coming back is simply dumb.

Our issue is we are a resort town. Population explodes from a few thousand to 500k. That's a lot of people for just a small area. The area is packed with young people and fools who are very selfish. You expect a 16-25 year old to not care. But a grown ass adult? Also, many of the people who are coming down are middle aged adults who high blood pressure. Type2 diabetes. Weight issues. People who aren't in the best shape. They should be the ones worried the most.

My county has a population of 100k. As of today, we've had 17.5k tested, 169 positives, 167 of which are recovered. Zero deaths.

Some places reacted quickly and are doing okay.
