Most of the stuff you buy on Amazon comes from China. Would probably avoid ordering anything for the next little while to be safe.

Actually stuff like this makes me realize how ill prepared I am for disasters, I really should have a better stock of non perishable food and keep water in large containers in case the water supply was to get contaminated.

Lets say I have the Coronavirus and I sneezed onto my hand then grab a doorknob. How long can the virus stay alive on a object? hours, days, weeks?

yes, they are garbage. N95 are pretty good...much better, at least, but aren't perfect for viruses. You need a sealed breather.
Again, I got 3M N95 from Lowe's. They have full-face respirators too. Any contractor supply place should.

Amazon has them, too. That's where I've been buying for the lab for a while now.

no matter...they are probably all made in China. So that sucks. imagine that. panicky people buying N95s that are all laced with Coronavirus. :D

I specifically went to Lowe's in response to Amazon being completely sold out after websites online started telling Chinese people how to get them shipped from US Amazon.

It's in here somewhere:

IOW, I made my post mentioning these other places in direct response to Amazon being sold out. If they've restocked... GREAT! ...but it's temporary.

many sincere apologies for not realizing that you made a specific post about a specific thing regarding the specific lack of masks at the very very specific Amazon place. I wish to have not offended you so mortally.

I did order and receive about 30 of them last week from Amazon though, without any consideration or knowledge that there would be some shortage or even all of the world's supply being sent to China. (we use them for mouse work)

Why are you acting like this? All I did was tell you that this conversation about alternate places to get masks was specifically about availability concerns with Amazon and others (drugstores, medical suppliers, etc) after you mistakenly took comfort in the ability to get them from Amazon. It almost sounds like you would rather I didn't tell you so that we could go around in circles while confusing others. WTF?!

I was not "offended." I was having a relevant discussion until you decided that whatever I had to say wasn't worth saying no matter how relevant and mocked me for it. Using "specifically" was to demonstrate the relevance to something you brought up. Looks like I should be the one apologizing for daring to continue after you injected yourself and brought up Amazon in a way that was particularly relevant to the concern I was addressing.

He asked me a question. I answered it. Later, you came along, quoted his question that was originally directed to me, and answered him with a contradictory answer. I would appreciate your post if I were wrong. I wasn't, but that's still cool as long as I can say what I need to say in response without you trying to shame me for it. I felt we were having a productive exchange until your last post.

If my goal was to make sure people know where else N95 (and better) masks were available then obviously I would want you to know as well. You're welcome, whether you appreciate that or not. Furthermore, anyone else who wants to know might see your answer after glossing over mine (just like you did) and mistakenly take comfort that they can just order from Amazon. That's why it beared repeating. Sorry, not sorry.

You know what--my bad. I think I read that reply of yours under an incredulous voice or something. I don't why. I skipped a few pages in this thread and didn't even bother back-tracking...but that isn't the point at all. I just read your response under a different intent and, I dunno why.

sorry. bro. lol

LOL! No problem. Hope the availability issue blows over before your lab needs another box. :)

Scared of the Corona virus???

In the United States in 2017-18 influenza caused:
--45 million serious illnesses
--21 million doctor visits
--808,000 hospitalizations
--61,099 deaths.

Yet the vast majority of you wringing your hands over a Chinese illness that has caused a mere 2800 cases world wide won't even get a flu shot.

If the yearly flu season outbreaks don't make you bat an eye, why are you losing your mind over this?

2019-nCoV kills the old and sick. The average age of death has been 75 and virtually every case has had severe co-morbidities.

Fuck, we all seem to lack perspective and any semblance of proper risk assessment. This fear mongering is way out of hand.
So much this. So much of it.

And yet the average age of death is 75 and virtually all have had severe co-morbidities in a country with shitty healthcare. I'll wager the death rate would be far lower in first world countries.

My numbers stand. If you don't bat an eye during a flu season, don't get a yearly flu shot and this scares you deeply you lack perspective.
Must be the same people who fear death by terrorism.

I don't think that is unusual.

You know I just realized that my daily commute on the bus is me being surrounded by dozens of Chinese students and post-docs, now returning from their break back home.

Think I'm fuct. I might need to walk in the freezing weather for the next month or two. It's uphill, too. gahh....
