I too have come to enjoy minimizing my exposure to everyone's icky germs!

😱 😛

*(in fact I just snagged a large AND genuine box of 3M N95's)

Also I don't wear a mask in my car or when walking down the street by myself.... I see people doing so all the time though!
For me, it depends, just walking around my neighborhood, no mask. When I'm in downtown Seattle, I'm wearing a mask.

Booze drinkers and pot junkies don't take good care of themselves and are more likely to be reckless and dumb. Have no problem adding to the burden of "pay to play" while they set themselves up for a fatty liver death 20 years from now.

You forgot the sarcasm tag. You forgot the sarcasm tag, right?

I take great care of myself, specifically so I can keep enjoying life. That includes alcohol.

No sarcasm. Plenty of drinkers are aggressive, nasty abusive people or they go out and drive after having their fun. Part of the reason cops get paid as well is to deal with those accidents, and I have a certain degree of contempt for cops getting paid as well as they do.

Those in the pot business are well-learned in the art of business and engaging in transactions. Plenty love their weed so much, they'll drive after consuming as well.

If someone is holding out getting vaxxed, and they suddenly get vaxxed because the booze suddenly becomes inaccessible, it's clear they have the same destructive tendencies towards themselves and others regarding COVID that manifests when they consume alcohol.

And fatty liver disease is quite real in alcoholics, and they cost society when they land in the hospital and await a liver transplant. They're often shit out of luck because alcoholic fatty liver people are put at the bottom of the list priority-wise, and deservedly so.

I'm in better health than you are ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Your deep concern for your fellow man is noted 🙄

What's funny is when they decided what's considered essential or not, alcohol and pot shops were deemed essential because alcoholics can die if they don't get their fix. (that was their reasoning)

And now, it's like, screw em I guess lol. New Brunswick was requiring vaccination to enter grocery stores for a while, but enough pressure made them drop that mandate.

Either way it looks like they're also going to make the vaccine mandatory across the country so I assume if you don't get it you get fined. Maybe this is Trudeau's way of trying to cure racism and misogynisty. According to him, unvaccinated people are racist and misogynistic. Not even joking, he said that lol.

I'm seeing higher than average (13.65%) breakthrough percentages in people over the age of 40 in WV. The older you are the higher your chance for a breakthrough case. Double the percentage for those 71+. If you're older and can hide for a few weeks that would be good advice. Stay safe.

This variant sure making it's rounds. Up to 510 active cases in my city alone. 839 for the whole region. Not sure how many are in hospital, I presume most of those are people isolating at home. Probably lot of untested as well. Basically if you have cold like symptoms people are just asked to stay home instead of going to get tested. Makes sense really, no point in having people go out in public and wait in line while they probably have covid. They are not giving out rapid tests here anymore.

I do agree that it is not necessarily worth testing if you know you are sick. Just self-quarantine. I believe in actionable data. If you aren't going to do anything with the information, then the information is of little value. Meaning, if you are going to quarantine either way, knowing you have Covid or not does not really impact much at all. In fact, the information may be harmful, because it leads people to a false sense of security thinking they are now immune just because they had one variant.

However that does throw off official numbers. In the United States, 1 out of 42.7 people officially got Covid in the last 2 weeks. A lot go untested since they are asymptomatic, did an at-home test that isn't in the official numbers, don't believe in Covid, have a known exposure so why bother testing once you are sick, etc. Lets just for the sake of discussion assume half of those who got sick are officially tested. That leaves us with roughly 1 out of 20 people in the US got Covid since Christmas!

So what would you guess the actual "infections" number is assuming we catch everyone?

I would bet that given what we know of how Omicron spreads its at least double what we have recorded.

Would not be surprised if we all end up getting it whether we know it or not. We're just lucky it's relatively mild because this could be much much worse.

Official US numbers in the last 2 weeks: 7.8 million. Doubling the official numbers: 15.6 million. If you look at this model, they estimate that 76.5 million people in the US were infected in the last 2 weeks! https://covid19.healthdata.org/unit...=infections-testing&tab=trend&test=infections I tend to think the actual numbers are probably closer to the 15 million, but we'll never really know.

I watched the whole thing, and that's a fair assessment. It kind of comes off like he wants the "empathy" of not being hassled for going to the grocery store without a mask on.

Seems like I missed that. Any recollection where in the video that masks were even mentioned?

Yeah, I figured. My behavior hasn't changed except that I put on a brand new N95 for my every other week shopping trip last week. I'm still avoiding unnecessary trips indoors. I really don't care. I haven't eaten indoors at a restaurant since before the pandemic, marvel at the people who can sit there and eat and not think about the risk they're taking. I see them on TV, so many of them look like they are obviously at higher risk than I am, way higher. I'm hoping that we'll be in a much much better place by summer but not counting on anything, not making any plans.

Actually the straps are a light grey rubber and are VERY stretchy .... like 3x more then I need even for my big fat melon! (maybe they improved them?)

Best things however are they are quite comfortable although a bit annoying to put on due to the "over the head" straps and are very easy to breath through, plus they have a thick foam strip over the metal nose-bridge which pretty much eliminates all glasses-fogging.

The only negatives are it being a PITA to put on/take off compared to ear-loops and a very slight plastic-smell that dissipates in 5-10 minutes of wearing. (removing the mask from its individual wrapping a half-hour prior to donning it eliminates this)
Yes, my 3M 9210's, which are quite similar, are wonderful. Tight fitting, no leaks, comfortable, no fogging of the glasses, which is a biggie. Watch those straps, though, they may well snap on you. Carry a spare with you of some sort!

Yes, it's harder to put on and take off than ear loops, but that's a minor complaint. And, of course, no impact on your ears.
