But how effective is that actually, considering that it's believed that most transmissions occur in indoor environments?

Chinese data suggested that casual outdoor transmission was borderline non-existent. Spraying a shitload of disinfectant outdoors is probably useless.

You are doing this wrong. The correct response is to go full retard and accuse them of being like chemtrails, designed to sedate us and control our minds!

This one, you know the wall that cuts the city of Nogales in half?

Oooohhh! So you mean it was payback for a nearly 3-decades-old barrier that they are actually using to enforce this border crossing disinfection thing?

Gotcha.

You know, we didn't call it a "wall" back then.

It sounds like the FDA has approved Abbott Labs' rapid lateral flow antibody test. Company says they'll ship 30M now and 60M in June.

My kingdom for a reasonably accurate rapid antigen test that doesn't require hardware though.

Those are the same people who will use magnets, gun oil, or some shit to fight the virus instead of getting the vaccine when it is available.

Well, dang:

"What might come after the reopenings won't be apparent for weeks. One expert told CNN it will be at least two to three weeks before states may begin seeing increased infections."

My state is starting to open towards the end of the month. Think I'll wait a few weeks before going anywhere...

Friendly reminder, we still haven't actually hit a peak yet, so we're still not at the point of expecting that 'second wave'.

"Waves" are never visible in a chart of total confirmed cases because every wave adds to the spike. What you want is a chart of concurrent infections. Even then, it's possible to peak before visibility can show the peak so a second wave will appear to be a continuation of the first.

Since that's a total infection chart, it can only go up. It's not going to level out until COVID is defeated.
Right you both are, I was thinking of the wrong chart.

Here's a better one, the US minus NYC (as of a few days ago):

Active infections appear to have reached a peak at 1,000,000. The number of newly recovered is now running parallel with newly infected.

I think part of the continued case growth is lagging states are expanding test capacity and we're seeing more of the outbreak. Declining positivity rates would seem to support that. However some places are undoubtedly seeing real growth especially where there are clusters at vulnerable sites like prisons, long term care facilities, and meatpacking plants that seep into the nearby communities.

This is not true.

https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/us/

About a week ago, active cases were about 950k and today it's 1030k. The curve is being bent slightly, but as [DHT]Osiris points out, this is really only due to New York's epidemic being controlled (I didn't say "[fully] under control"). The U.S. sans NY metro confirmed cases are steadily increasing, and many experts are fearful that the second wave rolls in about 2 weeks from now.

These pushes to reopen are absolutely insane - they've presented the idea of "reopening" as a binary choice, when it really isn't. The lockdowns were a time to plan - plan for phased reopenings and improve testing capabilities and contract tracing to support reopening safely. Instead, we have many state governments who apparently don't give two shits about the people that are supposed to be their bosses.

I disagree. I think it's time to reopen the economy. People are generally taking more precautions and wearing masks. Open up manufacturing and retail stores. Let people decide if they want to risk it. Georgia opened up yet not all stores are open. Many are still voluntarily closed. That's their choice. But let it be their choice. Likewise, it's people's choice whether they want to do business with places that are open. The restaurants here can do dine in if they want. But most restaurants are still electing to do takeout and delivery only. And I respect that. If we go by what people here want, there should be zero airlines operating and flying right now. Why are airlines allowed to operate when it's impossible to keep the social distancing? If airlines are allowed to operate, so should pretty much everything else.

1) People are terrible at judging risk
2) We're talking about a virus that is quite effective at transmitting up 7-14 days before people show symptoms
3) States "opening up" gives many people a Hobson choice: either go to your unsafe place of business or lose your unemployment/business interruption insurance/etc...
4) And to further and, states have not taken the appropriate steps to mitigate risk: testing capabilities have not dramatically expanded to what we need, nor have contact tracing programs been expanded to keep new outbreaks down

The open up mantra and "let people decide" BS is just about shirking government responsibility and pushing less well-off people into the firing line.

Yes, please lets get back to normal. People die from things everyday.

Haven't they ever heard of the "the cycle of life"?

If you are young and healthy, you will likely not die. If you are not, well, you do. That is the way life on this planet has worked for billions and billions of years. We are foolish to think we can stop it.

Take all necessary precautions! Face punch anyone not wearing a mask! In them meantime, develop a vaccine!

But this bullshit about a permanent lockdown is just that - bullshit.

Why are airlines allow to operate? I want all passenger airlines shut down. That's how the virus spread all over the world. GROUND ALL PASSENGER AIRLINES NOW! We must save lives!

And why are you guys ok with meatpacking plants opened? Their lives are not valuable? If there's one job where it's pretty much impossible to social distance, it's work at meatpacking plant. And it's the poor and the immigrants who are forced to work these plants. Shutdown every goddamn plants. I guarantee you those plants are not safe.

I'm not okay with that. I think it's atrocious that people think it is acceptable to sacrifice the lives of poor people so that some people can keep stuffing their faces with meat.

If they cared about health and safety, they could try to compromise and run at a reduced capacity. Instead, it's full steam ahead.
