Uhh, where was this genius in January when China still wasn't letting the WHO, American CDC, or other doctors in while parroting China's lie that there was still no evidence for human to human infection? There was... and China knew.

Every argument against nationalized health care, a better social safety net, affordable housing, and responsible, regulated, business practices, has just been laid bare for the nonsense it really is. But, the mantras will start right back up again, if they ever really stopped for any of the chanters.

This is the government's chance to fix healthcare & a lot of other things, imo. However, we're not organized enough to do it. People want things to get back to normal as quickly as possible, which is completely understandable, and there are plenty of companies gearing up to offer you exactly that.

The silver lining to the virus is that a lot of us have gotten the chance to re-evaluate our priorities, our relationships, where we put our time, our personal organization, etc. The party trick will be implementing real change instead of letting things slide back to normal. It's so easy to get caught up in the river of life, that once we get through the rapids & back into the clear again, we turn off our brains & go back into our habits & routines.

Not that that's necessarily a bad thing, but I think this was a wake-up call for a lot of us. It's so easy to drift through life & just "stay busy" that we don't really go after what we want or live how we want to live.

Was on a zoom chat with my family and my sister said hers was pending. I then checked mine and didn't have anything. But I don't even know if I qualify for it or not I have no clue what the prerequisites are.

Calculator is here:

If you filed in 2018 or 2019, then they have your info on file. If you did direct deposit, that's the information they'll use. Otherwise checks will be sent out later, and other situations will be covered via a special website.

Two sad updates:

1. We surpassed Italy in total number of deaths

2. We surpassed 20,000 dead in America

I'm still finding it hard to wrap my mind around the idea that a virus just magically appeared one day, migrated around the world, and twenty thousand of our countrymen are now gone as a result. And just to make the situation even more unbelievable, the only way we can really fight it as individuals is to stay home on the couch & do nothing.

less than ATOT minimum wage if you're single

single phaseout range is 75-99$k

married phaseout range is 150-198$k

Based on AGI (adjusted gross income)...401k contribrutions arent counted as AGI...since I maxed mine, I was under the limit....

No clue what in those 5 minutes of clips makes you say this show is garbage.
I don't have to see a clip of any duration to know that ALL 'reality' shows are garbage.

But I don't even know if I qualify for it or not I have no clue what the prerequisites are.

They're attributing anything and everything to it. If you got run over by a freight train, it was because you had the bug and wandered onto the tracks during a coughing fit. If you were in a nursing home for advanced cancer and only had hours to live, you died of it because somebody delivered a box to the office on the other side of the complex 10 minutes earlier.

The numbers are crap, all blown out of proportion. No one is even doing conclusive testing to know for sure who did or didn't have it.

To be totally specific here -

If you've already filed your 2019 Tax Return in the Jan, Feb, or March 2020 timeframe - then check line 8b. That is the amount that must fall within the thresholds.

If you haven't filed your 2019 returns, then check your 2018.

Even if you're ATOT baller - unless your wife is also making bank you should at least partially qualify since you SHOULD be maxing out 2 401ks, and using an HSA/FSA to reduce your AGI as much as possible ;) It's pretty much the only way I qualified for a portion of it.

Of course, some folks here are also living in dumb places with high cost of living, where $100k AGI is practically peanuts... In that case, you're just screwed.

No clue what in those 5 minutes of clips makes you say this show is garbage. Talk about being shallow in a moment like this.
Are you seriously saying you'd normally watch that fake garbage and be entertained by it?

Did you cry when you found out about the virus?

Did you try to make yourself the center of attention by telling everyone to hug you when you know they had more important things to do (like get their messages)?

The laughably insincere forced reactions to every little thing are obviously par for the course even without the virus.

The only thing that makes it even slightly interesting is the idea that they didn't know what was really happening outside. The real-world intrudes on "reality" TV.

I don't have to see a clip of any duration to know that ALL 'reality' shows are garbage.
Yeah. I'm just surprised to see that it's so much worse than I imagined.

Not sure if this had been posted. Everyone is saying China lied about their numbers. Look at the measures they've taken, then compare with what we're willing to do. Comments indicate it's like that in most cities in China now (probably for months from the looks of it), which is how they were able to contain the spread.

We're in NY. Yesterday I went out to the state park with my boys. Then we saw a group of teens hanging out with skateboards. 2 other teens were playing their RC cars. Golf courses are also open where we saw a group of 4 guys nowhere near 6ft apart. Maybe 2 out of over 50 people we saw wore a mask.

Point is, don't doubt others if you're going to apply your own mindset to what others are capable of. That applies to many things, doesn't it...

Even US intelligence says they lied.

Way to miss the point guys...

We're not doing what's necessary, what others are actually doing, and we're still pointing fingers...

As stated, this pause in the world is a huge wake up call, a perfect opportunity for self reflection as a country. And yet we have people including our leader trying to score popularity points ahead of an election. Are we really that dense? Or should I say shallow? Look at ourselves, it's the only way to do better.

I'm certain China - the Chinese authorities - told a lot of lies about this outbreak. That's perfectly compatible with them also taking extreme measures to try and control it domestically when they realised they had to. The Chinese system encourages secrecy, and suppresses information, and also enables extreme collective action when decided upon.

People aren't inexplicably wicked just based on nationality, people respond to incentives in the context in which they find themselves.

It strikes me, incidentally, that some people seem to be skeptical of what the 'intelligence services' say when it's about China, while believing it when it's about Russia (and vise-versa)

Unfortunately, both the US and Chinese regimes seem to have decided that the way to excuse their own massive flaws is to play the nationalism card.

Yeah that is just mind boggling to me in NY considering the numbers up there.

I know golf courses are closed here in MD but I know they are open in VA with a lot of restrictions. The cups are pulled so you now hit something at the bottom of the flag, so no one has to keep putting their hands into the hole where other people have put their hands. Then if you rent a cart, you have to ride by yourself. You can still walk. They are enforcing the social distancing thing too while on the course, and the clubhouses are all closed. As long as people follow protocol I think that's good.

Starting tomorrow in my county in MD, if you go shopping, you have to wear something covering your face or you can get a fine. I've been wearing a mask every time I've gone out for about 2 weeks now and definitely noticed many more people wearing them too, at least in my county. I did go shopping in a county next over to mine which isn't as wealthy of a county, and it was a night/day difference as to how they are treating it. Way more cars on the road and in Walmart, I'd guesstimate like 10 or 20 percent of people had masks on. In my county it's been like 75% or more I'd estimate.
