It IS very sad. I wonder if Elon Musk can get them some ventilators/respirators.

Not P&N so I don't want to get into specifics or debate anything from it, but I felt it was worthy of mentioning to folks of OT that the stimulus bill was agreed on last night.

Text of the bill is still being worked on and likely to finish today I believe...

We'll catch up to Italy's total number of confirmed cases by Friday... maybe even tomorrow. Of course, the USA population numbers and hospital capacity don't really compare so we won't be as desperate but we'll be a heck of a lot closer.

Under the plan as it was being negotiated, individuals who earn $75,000 in adjusted gross income or less would get direct payments of $1,200 each, with married couples earning up to $150,000 receiving $2,400 -- and an additional $500 per each child. The payment would scale down by income, phasing out entirely at $99,000 for singles and $198,000 for couples without children.

Ok so who's not getting shit?

My wife stopped working in late 2018, deferred her severence pay of 1 yr to 2019 tax season. So with our luck, they're using 2019 reported figures. Joy.

My understanding from past articles is that they base it on your reported income for 2018 - since that is a year they should have everyone's for. Obviously until April (Now July?) they won't have everyone's 2019 reported, thus they are going with 2018.

Personally I do think it's dumb to be nit-picky about making too much money for a tiny ass $1,200 check - but whatever. I also find it especially stupid to base it on reported tax income... I mean, maybe you made $200k in 2018, but lost your job at the beginning of 2019 and have been unemployed since. Also does interest and capital gains count towards it, or just wages? Unclear as usual. EDIT: Oh - another thing! We had a kid in 2019, so will I get a $500 amount for that - or since it's based on 2018 will they not see it?

Personally I'm going to fall somewhere inbetween - since the cutoff for getting nothing is at 198k for married couples... and that's only because I sock-away a bunch of funds into 2 401ks and an HSA.

Also, originally they were talking about sending out 2 rounds of checks... I'm only seeing 1 round indicated here?

LOL if using the 2018 numbers. The company my wife worked for was bought out in like October 2018 and both her old company and new company reported her income and it's still not resolved. We just found out about this like a month ago from a random letter by the IRS saying we owed $9k in taxes for 2018. Her company is currently working through it, but according to 2018 the government thinks we made quite a bit more than we did so we're definitely over the threshold.

So how nuts is everyone here going? To the point yet of wiping down all your mail pieces (and packages) with hand-sanitize?

When you get take-out food to you wipe down the bag and to-go box that the food is in

I sprayed isopropyl on my Taco Bell bag last night and won't be eating the quesadilla until tomorrow.

I also used a different straw than the one they gave me. Won't use any paper-wrapped straw someone else has handled in the last 48 hours, since they are often wet with condensation from the drink cup they are also handling. Great way to let it soak in to the plastic inside.

Yeah, I guess I'm hoarding quesadillas for future consumption like my mom suggested. ;) Actually, I'd eat it in a matter of hours except I didn't get hungry again last night and I'm not eating at all today.

The only thing I'm doing differently is I'm wearing my N95 mask when I'm in stores and using hand wipes whenever I get back in my car.

Nada. Although my state's on lockdown as of Monday, so pretty much just chilling at home. Remoting in as needed. Been testing delivery from some places.

Only downside is my skin is dying from so much hand-washing lol.

On behalf of my state, I apologize to all Americans:

Last week a local invited me to a party/meet-up for the new video game Animal Crossing: New Horizons. The title on his Facebook event made it clear that he was aware of social distancing recommendations...

I think Facebook canceled it in response to complaints because the last update says it's still on.

On March 7 I went on a booze cruise in Newport Beach. There boat was packed full of drunk friends and family. I apologize if we were party zero for southern California.

It was the best party I've been to in a long time. Looking back it is like we were having one last celebration before the end of the world

@brainhulk , aren't you in pharmacy? If so, you guys should be swamped with prescription orders right now. I spoke with some doctor and pharmacy friends and they're saying the hospital load in Atlanta are not that bad where they are. But pharmacy person said she's dying because people are ordering crazy number of prescriptions and lot of medicines are in short supply or out of stock. She said she's getting crazy number of requests for Hydroxychloroquine and much of it is from doctors trying to procure supply for themselves and their families. I found that statement very interesting.

I work in a hospital, but I took a 2 week vacation because i am at the maximum number of vacation hours. So i've been out of the loop for a bit. But prior to leaving, they converted the parking garage into an offsite isolation area in prep for the surge. I also mentioned we should stock up on chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine since the price might go up. It will be interesting what my hospital will be like when i go back next week.

As for physicians self prescribing, while certainly sad and disgusting during these times, is not really that suprising to me. They are human too and not immune to corrupt behavior.
