actually english is the world language, 1 because of the spread of the english language during the time of the british empire.m and 2. (and most imporantly). after ww2 america made up over 60% of the worlds economy. and doing buisness meant doing buisness with america. so you learned the language of the guys you wanted to trade with.

It's funny how people are already conceding and saying that well all have to learn chinese in the future, that such a defeatist attitude.
 
i have to agree with stormrider. Chinese is becoming a dominant language in the world. Which is why I need to pick up my Chinese again, would be a shame to lose it.

on a completely different note, in the article, the correspondent is richard schlesinger, i wonder if he's in any relation to arthur schlesinger?

Mandarin is the official language of China. I swear I'm going to the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.
 
hehe, don't worry, I completely agree with that statement. Doesn't solve the issue of her not understanding what my background is like, but the language thing for me kids is solved. 😀

I think I'll still go with the real thing though 😉
