Rolling Stones and heres why......simple lyrics that just repeat themselves over and over again. Simple riffs that do the same. Sure they are an inspiration for a lot but that doesnt make them great.

So, in a thread about the "worst" band, you feel that such contenders as ICP, Nickleback, Fallout Boy, etc are all superior musicians?

I'd say they're all equally bad. The thing of it is though, I don't see perfectly sane people obsessing about any of the bands you mentioned.

Look, I think The Doors are crap. What Morrison passes as drug-induced poetry with lazily written, drabily mixed music is awful. You guys can like them all you want, I respect that. I also respect people who are in love with ICP. I think Pink Floyd and David Bowie were much more superior bands.

I don't understand why you keep bringing up "poetry". Poetry is English, music is a different category. Bands make music...lyrics are just something for the voice to do to fill it's role as an instrument, IMO. I hear music for it's notes, not for it's drug-induced meaning. But once again, to each their own.

Based on what you said about lyrics, I'm really interested to hear what you think about Bob Dylan.

My vote goes to Slipknot; I honestly have no idea how people listen to this group- their "singer" simply talks sh!t into the mic and their musical style, though original, is absurdly so to the point where it is difficult to even discern a melody in most of their songs.

wow, you obviously don't listen to a wide variety of music. slipknot is terrible but screaming isn't limited to just that band. death grunts are a an acquired taste. death metal stuff.... like Morbid Angel, Cryptopsy, Opeth, Nile, Carcass, upon many many others

It's hard to choose a band that's the worse, as I don't listen to much music.

But I suppose I can agree with many of the bands chosen in this topic as bad.

Tool? Um, you are kidding I hope... If not, you go in the same group of idiots, sorry - I mean people, nominating Van Halen, Led Zeppelin, The Dave Matthes Band, Metallica, U2, KISS, Eminem, Nirvana, The Beatles, Coldplay, Greenday, and The Doors (assuming none of those were sarcasm).

My vote is Paris Hilton. I haven't even heard her 'song' but never before has there been a more worthelss excuse for hype and publicity. She needs to star in a snuff film.
Keep in mind these are ATOTers making the nominations.

Hah, solid point. My guess would probably have to go to the Pussycat Dolls. The epitome of manufactured, overhyped, overpushed "music".

i can't wait to hear what you people think are the greatest band in the world... simon & garfunkle? starland vocal band?

cmon... dave matthews? slipknot? those bands are AMAZING. i'm gonna take a shot in the dark and assume you people don't play music on any respectable level. first of all, the drummers for those 2 bands are widely regarded as THE best in their respective genres. lessard, the bassist for matthews, was picked up by the band at age 15 or some sh*t because be was a friggen prodigy who beat out every other bassist they auditioned in an area of america that is known to be a cesspool of musical talent. slipknot can be a little hard on the ears at times and the image may be a little abrasive, but it's only to deter pussies like you from becoming part of their fanbase.

my vote is for air supply, foreigner, LFO, poison... i'm sure i can think of a hundred more. but DMB and Slipknot are def. NOT one of them

True... And I think too many people are confusing overhyped/overrated with 'worst band evar'. I'm not a big fan of Dylan or The Doors music but I definitely don't think they are bad musicians/writers.

tool? tool and a perfect circle epitomizes the cutting edge of progressive rock music, you douche. i think a lot of you poor s.o.b.s are calling out these bands cause either they're the favorite band of a) guys who used to throw you in dumpsters and lockers in grade school, or b) favorite bands of girls who flat out shut you down cold (on myspace or some lame internet dating service), blocked your ip and got a restraining order on you for internet stalking.

demon... preach it brotha. if not for the occasional voice of reason, i can't remember why i frequent this clusterf*ck of a board. oh yeah, the deals.

Actual bands that suck ass:
Lifehouse
The Fray
Dashboard Confessional
Simple Plan
Good Charlotte
Angels and Airwaves
Blink 182
Any other whiney ass group (not all of the groups mentioned above are whiney)

"Groups" that suck ass:
Pussycat Dolls, I'm sorry, 10 dancers and one chick singing crappy lyrics over crappy beats does not classify as music
D4L, "Laffy Taffy" sounds like the soundtrack of mental disability
The Pack
99% of rap groups and artists

Basically, whiney sh!t and almost all rap sucks

HAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAH Joey Jordison's drumming doesn't even come close to the intensities of Flo Mounier and George Koillias. or Mike Portnoy. or Marten Hagstrom for that matter.

Judging by what is being picked, most of the people here aren't old enough to have sufficient perspective to know what's good and bad, or much of a range of musical taste. The fact that you even know who the Doors or Skynyrd are 30 and 40 years after the fact shows how important they really were. (mind you, they are not my favorite groups) ...Just how much of the crap everybody seems to think is so hot now will even be remembered in 10 years?

Wow, this thread just goes to show how ignorant people are. Just because you don't like a band or their music doesn't mean they're "the worst band evar," grow up. No one can touch Led Zeppelin, the Stones, or the Doors; if you nominated any of them, it just goes to show how little you know about music at all, period. I dont even like the Doors but I can respect the difference they made in music. In response to the OP, you really should learn about the band you chose before you nominate them. The guitarists of Slipknot are some of the best playing today and are known for their skill. It's not just them, but most of the players in the band are pretty damn good with their respective instruments. While I agree with you in that I don't like some of their earlier, screaming type music, their newer works are great. I listened to Vol. III: the Subliminal Verses and enjoyed it: not only is the music very well put together, but the singer (Cory I think is his name) does some slower songs, and he actually has a good voice.

Going from that, what exactly defines "the worst band evar." My guess would be a complete lack of talent, effort, and skill in all areas from song writing to playing and concert giving. That said, some of this new punk/emo sh!t totally sucks. I listened to a few songs by "The Used" the other day and they pretty much meet that criteria. I think I lost some faith in new music :(.

No you should have chosen the Rolling Stones, they have a bigger fanbase and you could have gotten more attention. :cookie:
The Stones are huge, but I seriously doubt they have anywhere near the fanbase Zeppelin does.

So true. I was watching a DVD about the festival in Coachilla with some of the more current popular bands performing and I don't recognize the songs or the bands until I was able to decipher the lyrics because they didn't sound at all like their studio work as their muscianship was atrocious.

The Stones have a larger global fanbase than Zeppelin. Hell, the Stones are STILL touring (http://www.ticketmaster.com/rollingstones) and recently did the Super Bowl. No way in hell LZ has a bigger fanbase.

Clearly you're smoking crack. For ex, RATM was one of the only bands that educate their audience on global oppression/injustice with history and current events. Just because you couldn't understand what the lyrics of People of the Sun (for ex) were in reference to doesn't mean it sucked. It's called google.
