Why are people nominating the Doors? Admittedly I have never really gotten into their music, but aren't they considered among the greats?
Not to worry, the people dissing the Doors weren't born when Jim Morrison died.

LMAO @ Doors fans. Sorry, I don't like joke bands.
"Come on baby light my.............FIRE!" ROFL I laugh everytime at that.
They're a joke band because you think a line from one of their songs is dumb? You = winner.
No they're a joke band because Morrison wrote lame drug-induced lyrics accompanied by monotonous drab melodies.

So, in a thread about the "worst" band, you feel that such contenders as ICP, Nickleback, Fallout Boy, etc are all superior musicians?
I'd say they're all equally bad. The thing of it is though, I don't see perfectly sane people obsessing about any of the bands you mentioned.
Look, I think The Doors are crap. What Morrison passes as drug-induced poetry with lazily written, drabily mixed music is awful. You guys can like them all you want, I respect that. I also respect people who are in love with ICP. I think Pink Floyd and David Bowie were much more superior bands.
I don't understand why you keep bringing up "poetry". Poetry is English, music is a different category. Bands make music...lyrics are just something for the voice to do to fill it's role as an instrument, IMO. I hear music for it's notes, not for it's drug-induced meaning. But once again, to each their own.
You seriously have no idea what you are talking about. For one thing, Robbie Krieger (the guitarist) wrote the lyrics to "Light My Fire." Anyone who has ever seen the Oliver Stone movie would know that. Contrary to popular belief, Morrison did NOT write all of their songs. In fact, almost all of their songs were collaborative efforts, with Manzarek and Krieger doing most of the song-writing, with Morrison just providing some of the lyrics.
For another, the lyrics are an important part of the music, and the singer's voice is an instrument unto itself. Music conveys emotion to people, and the meaning (drug-induced or not) is an important aspect of that emotional message.
And WTF?? you're knocking the Doors for being drug-induced while praising Pink Floyd?? Oh yeah, the members of Pink Floyd never did drugs ... :|
Well said sir....some of them were Morrison's own like "The End" and "Gloria". I believe "Soft Parade" was also his, which I am sure this blanco whatever guy has never even bothered to listen to anything but light my fire which in my mind is actually just another pop song (just catchy). "The End" is one of the most powerful songs I have ever listened to if you understand Morrison and his life.

Wow, guess nobody in here has heard of an acrostic poem.
Nice try on the recovery, I give it 6/10. It would have been better if you said Metallica never did a Haiku though, I would have laughed more.Originally posted by: patentman

Clearly you're smoking crack. For ex, RATM was one of the only bands that educate their audience on global oppression/injustice with history and current events. Just because you couldn't understand what the lyrics of People of the Sun (for ex) were in reference to doesn't mean it sucked. It's called google.
You dont have a musical ear then, do you? Tom Morello is insane at producing good riffs. Some of the things he does with a guitar are really inspiring. None of their songs have the same melody, I have no idea where you came up with this, please explain.Originally posted by: patentmanI agree and disagree with you. While Rage did produce some pretty deep lyrics, my main beef with them is their insistence in setting those lyrics to the exact same melody. 90% of their songs sound like lyrical remixes of one another.

Well if you agree their lyrics are deep, then they shouldn't be on any worst band list regardless.Originally posted by: patentman
