man i want to find deals liek this. cheapest i have seen for that phone was 189.99 with activation at a local CITILINK, which, btw.....is a famous asian store in my area.

rol:
I'm looking around for a 8290 deal w/ pacbell like you have. can you email me the address and store where you got it from? there are millions in montery park, and i wanna check out a few that anandtechers have found deals at. thanks.

I'm in the same boat as trike, I haven't even seen this phone anywhere in seattle. I have seen the 8860, but that was only a demo model, not working, Best they sell that is remotely easy to find is the 6160 🙁

yeah no kidding. and voice stream want's like 169 bucks. with a one year contract. and the phone is locked. can't use it with other providers. but if i can get the phone for cheap or better yet, free.. i don't care if it's locked or not.. hehe..

Email me your info, and I will pass it on to the store owner. I dont have his info here, and I will double check if he wants his info posted.

rol:

you odnt have an email address listed or private messages enabled. Email me the store info so you do not have to post it. thansk.

Can someone send me the info of the store where the phone is free? I don't care that it's in L.A., but would prefer it to be in Berkeley (Bay Area). Thanks.

rol, i'm at ucla and so i'm also interested in the montereypark deal. Can you please email me at ericktai@ucla.edu with the information please? i would contact you directly, however, as someone mentioned, you don't have your information posted.
thank you!

OK, I just got off the phone with him. He welcomes any business, his number is

6264580888
6266149198

he has 2 locations, so he is either at one or the other. you can tell him that roland sent you, but i dont get jack crap from this so i dont want to hear jack crap about referrals. but this will jog his memory and get you the other free stuff that i mentioned. i got 2 phones, that is why he hooked me up with that deal, but that is not his normal deal.

Ask for Tony.

Do they have any 29.99 plan with that 8290 phone? Also do anyone know of any cell phone deal around Orange county area.

Anyone know if its still cheap to get a 8290 in LA and hook it up up here? (Bay Area, North Cali). The best deal i can find is the 8260 for $100 w/ a 50 dollar rebate (so total is $50). Will the 8290 covers even fit the 8260?

Pretty sure the 8290 and 8260 covers are interchangeable the onldy difference with the phones is the network they run on, i think. You might want to check at a store or something though

The 8260 and 8290 faceplates are not interchangeable. The internals are different and it is actually different size. Also, you cannot just change the faceplate for the 8260, but can change the entire housing if you want a different look.

Don't know of any places outside So Cal with 8290 or 8260 phone deals as low as $40.00 out the door.

Did you all check out the faceplates and housings at daydeal.com

BAY AREA PEOPLE!!!:

The Asian Phone stores are DEFINITELY the cheapest places to get phones, in the BAY AREA check out: Take 2 in a little mall right off University in Berkeley

in SAN FRANCISCO check out FREE COMM on San Bruno Streer In SF (ghetto area be careful) these phones are REALLY HOT right now and everybody and their mama and 10 cousins livin with them in the upstairs part of a $600,000 San Francisco ghetto house is buying em so the deals arent quite as good...

but you can get the 8260/8290 for about $50 after rebate...I HIGHLY recoommend picking up ADVERTISER, a free classified newspaper in racks all over the city..it has about 10 of the cheapest phone places...

I go to Citicomm for all my paging stuff, and they match prices usually...you have to be the type who can dicker and be firm with these guys...

if you dont wanna leave your chair go to 1800mobiles.com i think they also have it for $49 after rebate and GREAT free shipping and service

spec411:
Which mall by UC Berkeley? I live in Berkeley and want this phone badly! Can you tell me which one exactly?

Does anybody know how i could get the phone down here in Dallas TX? Does anyone know of any good "Asian phone stores" around here? I really don't want to spend $170+ for something you guys can get for $40 with the nice face plate as well... Thanks in advance.

MTOM: Take 2 on University (down towards the freeway) in a little mall, the store isnt right on university you have to drive in the mall..i think tghere is a supermarket there too..

also i believe FREECOMM is right around there too...just call 411 and ask for Take 2 or Freecomm or go into SF and pickup a copy of the "advertiser" from any free newspaper rack (get off bart at montgomery and theres many right at the bart entrances)
