go to monterey park or san gabriel. the asian stores sell faceplates around $10-20. i actually got the 8890 look-alike faceplate for free when i got my phone. (phone plus all the accessories out the door was just over $50!!)

Asian phone places rock period. Pacbell PCS stores suck. Not only their phone price high but you get no accessories aside from the ones bundled in the phone's box.

At the phone stores, you can only get free accessories if you buy a phone with a new account. They won't sell you accessories for cheap if you just go in and buy it.

Siberian,

Did you get the full body (front and back) or did you get just the faceplate?

The 8290 is only available with GSM service (PacBell and other ...Bells). Verizon doesn't use GSM.

you should be able to go to the same store that you bought your phone from and, it nothign better, at least get like a nokia 5190......it comes in cool colors. you can get a whole set for less than 100.......complete with vibrating/flashing colored basttery....and flashing phone/antenna........looks pretty cool.....if you are into that.

I just got mine for $200 - $100 rebate from the Good Guys in Emeryville. $200 for phone w/ activation - $40 rebate - $60 rebate. Yes, yes not as good as getting it south but I needed a phone and I didn't want to have a long distance number.

I got the Nokia 8290 with handfree kit for free with free activation. I had to sign up for 1 year activation though.

So does anybody know where i can go to get the phone for the prices down south. There's bound to be some ghetto Asian place in Chinatown (in SF). If not I can just have my parents buy me one in GG or LA. Any recommendations for stores down south (you can get any area code right?) or, hopefully, in bay area.

1 year contract is perfectly fine... as long as the phone is free :)

Just got mine last weekend (8290) from Monterey Park in LA for 45 bucks OTD with car charger, belt clip, hands free kit, and free faceplate. Free roaming so I am using it up in San Jose, but I have an LA #, In 6 months, I can change it to a norcal # if I want to.

Stores in LA are selling the faceplates for 10, the front and backs with the switch to pop out the keypad cover for 20.
