I just picked up a new Nokia 3650 camera phone from ATT. Order from website and get it for $150 ($299 - $150 instant). Poking around I also found out there's a Nokia rebate available from nokiapromos.com for $150 mail in. Others on ATTs Support forum who got the instant have also been getting the mail in rebate from Nokia. So basically you wind up paying tax.

This model is a tri-band GSM phone. It's not available in all areas. It does not do CDMA/TDMA or AMPS. Also if your thinking of unlocking it remotely, there's a trick to it and you only have 5 tries. Also if you're going to do data, remember it's not cheap - $20 for 8MB is the BIG plan. Opera (the browser) is available for this phone. It also runs many Symbian OS apps, and many Java MIDP1 programs. Camera is VGA 640x480. Comes with 16MB MMC card, you can put in up to a 128MB. There are also some quirks with this model, read the Nokia support forum at ATT wireless. I'll see about uploading a pic or 2 so you can see the quality if people are interested.

BTW - before anyone yells about the unlocking comment. I'm not saying where to do this. Also it's legal. It's not like mod'ing a game console. You don't get anything for free. The only thing unlocking does is allow you to use other SIM cards - like prepaid ones from another country, or register your phone with another carrier. ATT even allows unlocking discussions on thier forum. They don't participate in them from what I see, but they don't mess with them either.

Edit - just for the (people) who don't understand cell phone plans - YES activation is required.

I have this phone and love it! It's amazing how many features they can pack into a phone these days! I installed a mp3 player for mine!

Thanks for nothing. I wasted my time researching this only to find out that activation is required with at least a $20 service plan. That means it isn't free after rebate.

Hey, we can't get the rebate untill we buy the phone since it asks for the IEMA (or wahtever it is) #. Anyone have the rebate? When does it expire? Does the additional nokia rebate also require sign up?

AT&T GSM WIRELESS SUXXXXXXXXXXXX, if you can avoid getting it, DO NOT GET IT! i live in washington d.c. area and the signal sux, i have no reception virtually everywhere, the noise in the background, calls getting dropped. My blood pressure gets high just by talking about it. and customer service waste your time talking to you bla bla bla, but doesn't do jack @#@$#@$. so for your health reasons i suggest u go with another provider.

Well I'm in New Orleans, and inside a building next to Nuclear Med. where pagers don't work sometimes, and my signal's pegged out. It is a GSM phone though and coverage is not everywhere here in the US. I live out in the middle of no-where. Coverage stops about 10 minutes before I get home. Cingular is about the only coverage I can get there and it's bad and VERY dependent on the phone. But ATT will forward my calls to my house when I'm outside of the area and that works for me. GSM quality is also dependent on the phone - 3650 is pretty good but T68i is very bad. At least according to the reviews I've read. My coverage works for me. Reception is as good or better than the Cingular phone it replaced.

From what I've read, if you add a line yes, but if you replace a phone (same line) then no. That what others are saying... I was switching providers so I was activating new service.

Does the Nokia rebate at nokiapromos.com require a new activation? Also, does anyone have a link to this rebate? It looks like you have to type in the phone's serial # to get access to view the rebate.

Nice Phone!

Can the NokiaPromos.com promotion be used in conjunction with the T-Mobile/Amazon rebate deal?

I don't about nokiarebates.com but the one on nokiapromos.com looks to be the same as buy.com link above.

I want to get this phone, but I'm moving across the country in 3 months. I know both areas are covered (Seattle and Hoboken) but will it cost me to move my number and home area?

I've done a bunch of research on their forums and google but have come up empty.

I PM'ed a ATT CSR over at thier support forum, and will let you know what they say.

From reading there, it appears to be $25 to change the number. But it didn't specifically mention moving to a new area with that. I know Cingular hit me for $35 so it may be.

Thanks! $25 or so isn't all that bad.

I woudlnt go with AT&T for a gsm plan, their network is too small for now. I got 3650 for free after after rebate at a chinese store in SF for Tmobile which has a much larger GSM coverage

There is no $25 dollar charge if you move and get a local number (unless you have to replace your sim card then it's $25 for the sim).

People that want to upgrade to the GSM service and qualify for an upgrade can get the mail in rebate rebate but not the instant rebate.
