the photos are real. obviously, levels may be adjusted, but I see absolutely nothing wrong with them besides minor alterations and level adjustments. Light in space is 'hot' in terms of photographic illumination, and to adjust for that and for the strength of the light bouncing off of the Earth would easily make everything awash in bright light. Photos up there, when showing the Earth, are going to show the shuttle illuminated quite well, a pure black sky, and the Earth in full glory.
Same reason photos from the Moon have no stars and the ground is illuminated so brightly, light from the sun hitting any object in space in our sector of the solar system is going to be intensely 'hot' and will easily wash everything out in a photo if not exposed properly. it's the nature of having no atmosphere to dilute and dampen the incoming light. So when a photo is correctly exposed for the light bouncing off of the subjects (people on moon, moon itself, the shuttle and other objects orbiting the Earth, as well as the Earth itself), no stars will be able to be seen. Come to think of it, for example, if we were taking a tour in space, I don't even know if our eyes could see the stars if they are adjusted to the light around us. If we were looking at the Earth or at the Moon, I doubt we'd see stars. We'd have to be in the shadow of Earth, and even then the light bending around due to the atmosphere may prevent seeing stars (same light that washes the moon in red light during a Lunar Eclipse).

That's New Zealand in the background of that one.

Not to mention the environment is completely different in terms of lighting and lack of atmosphere...

The pictures look fine to me.

Suppose thats why the GPS satellites must be fake, or the ISS, or the countless private shuttled missions sent out to space... whos to say someone never once brought a camera and took some pictures? The light from the earth reflects the light and you cannot see any stars. Its like standing in the middle of the city and looking up at night, you hardly see anything.

Ugh

Nah, I'm pretty sure they just pick up some disposables.

At Wal-Mart, no less.

Well since you apparently are an expert of how the earth looks from space....

Are you stupid? Pictures of the planet from space are readily available everywhere. And read my edit.

From further away than these were taken.

It's very even because there is no atmosphere affecting it.

It could also be even because it's reflecting off of a large, bright planet below.

Real pics. It looks unnatural, because the very definition of "natural" doesn't include sauntering around a few hundred miles above the ground. :p

i know nearly nothing about photography, but WOW @ shutter speed to freeze the props of that C-130!

edit: could someone explain that pic though? i thought the shuttle couldn't sustain level flight...why are they fueling it? and at such a low altitude?
