Closing the post office because some guy died is the dumbest thing I've heard of.
Of course it is, you're probably pre-adolescent. 🙂
Hardly. I mean think about it. Why close the PO? Because Ford died? How many postal workers are going to skip work to attend the funeral if they didn't have the day off? That's what I though...very few.
Most federal agencies are closed in honor of the president. This has occured for at least the last 3 late presidents. Them closing shop has no relationship to attending the memorial services. Suggesting so for the 100s of thousands of federal employess is silly. Calling a US president, "some guy" -sigh-

I agree with your last sentence. However, having the PO closed for 3 straight days is definitely silly, especially during New Year's, when many deadlines involving postal matter exist.

This is bullshit. Why didnt he just make yesterday the day of mourning since everyone was at home anyways?

Bush is ****** up.

Have a little respect for the office of the president, please. There have only been 43 of them in the history of the country, and a former president's death is a significant event in U.S. history.

Wow, the most asinine thing I've read on AT in awhile. Considering some of the things said on here, serious and in jest, that is really saying something.

naldo , you are a dufus

remember when Richard Nixon died? while Bill Clinton was president?

President Bill Clinton, former secretary of state Henry Kissinger, Senate Majority Leader Bob Dole and California Republican Governor Pete Wilson spoke at the April 27 funeral, the first for an American President since that of Lyndon B. Johnson on January 25, 1973, which, coincidentally, was presided over by Nixon during his presidency. Also in attendance were former Presidents Gerald Ford, Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan, George H. W. Bush and their respective first ladies.

I'm not saying bullshit to the day of mourning, I'm saying bullshit to the placement of the day of mourning.

Isnt it better to have a day of mourning where more people can mourn (since they arent at work)?

That's not honoring someone, that's just tacking it on to an already-existing holiday. Gerald Ford, although not the most popular US president, or the most accomplished while in office, deserves the respect of the citizens of this country, not some half-hearted tacked-on thing just because you can't wait to get your damn mail.

I'm not even that patriotic, but I think you could show just a little deceny for the man.

I wish there was a way to make the  symbol about ten times bigger.

Bwahaha basically an extension for all of us with college app deadlines. Wish Bushie would've done something smarter like put the day of mourning, I dunno, closer to the day President Ford passed away?

Yeah, what was Bush thinking making the day of mourning the same day as the state funeral?
