No Shave November!

rudeguy

Lifer
We are only a few short days away from November 1st. You guys know what that means, No Shave November!

I will be growing both my face and my head since my head is currently shaved. I plan on shaving both once more before the end of the month.

Pics are not mandatory, but are always welcome.

Who else is in this year?

Wait? You're bald? I always pictured you with a flowing mane of black hair, parted at the side. Not sure why.

Can someone explain to me what not shaving or mustaches have to do with charity?

Prostate cancer awareness movement. The person not shaving gets to talk about why, and that will increase awareness. Or you can get people to pledge to you being lazy for a month.

I always heard it as novembeard. But the movember wiki doesn't mention the alternate title.

Same thing that wearing pink in October has to do with charity. Just brings up awareness. Unfortunately, men's health issues tend to take a backseat to women's. According to the CDC, prostate cancer is the most common type of cancer for men by a wide margin. Cancer is the second most common cause of death for men. Movember helps bring awareness to something that was ignored for a long time.

as a woman, can i support your cause by not shaving my legs?

It doesn't help if it's not promoting discussion of prostate cancer.

For your sake, I hope you live in a warm climate, or have REALLY hairy legs. It's getting cold around here.

i can wear capri pants/shorts year round and wear skirts routinely to work. I'm sure people would notice. I assume that would help. But hey, if that's not good enough for you...

What the fuck does "awareness" do with anything? Is this some new-age/hipster way of telling yourself you helping something without actually doing anything (think KONY2012)?

It seems this literally is an empty gesture and not shaving for a month.

Well going to the doc for regular checks can catch prostate cancer in the early stages when its easier to treat.

Plus you get to have someone put their finger up your arse for free.

Win/win :awe:

Its Movember BTW, not "no shave November".

You're just supposed to grow a tash

No thanks. Only ever heard hipsters use Movember. We already have Mustache March.

NovemBEARD, on the other hand, is something I can support. I haven't kicked the habit of shaving every day since leaving the military a good while ago, but I can get behind growing a beard. Although, I'll probably just end up with designer stubble George Michael style.
