I was ranting in another thread how the nearby Subway charges TO TOAST YOUR FREAKING SANDWICH.

apparently, this is some CA gas/energy tax that businesses have to pay. wtf.
LOLKalifornia. They tax the stupidest shit and they're still flat broke.

Why the hell would you ask for no pickles and then extra lettuce?

Pickles are delicious and have flavor.
Lettuce is just green colored tasteless paper.

Its Not some CA gas/energy Tax.

It is the Sales Tax enforced by our lovely CA state.
California BOE Law states that HOT/Heated food is Taxable whereas Cold food is not.
On a side note, Cold Food TO GO is Non-Taxable but Cold Food for EAT-IN is Taxable.

I'm thinking that they need to have some programmers look over legislation, in addition to lawyers. They should be better at finding stupid, unexpected "bugs" in the program that the lawyers missed.

the restaurant manager in me says its because the price is programmed into that button. "Add X" rings up at $.30, "Minus X" rings up at $0.00. Chances are if they weren't busy, they would just yell it back to whoever was making sammiches. But if they are busy there is no way it would get remembered. Then you would be on here complaining that you didn't get your lettuce.

BTW...WB!

How bout this. Theres this place "Miami Subs" down here. They bought up a bunch of places like Arther Trechers fish, and Kenny Rogers roasters. They have gyros so they've got Tzatziki (aka cucumber sauce)

So I order a super burger and ask for a cucumber sauce.

I get handed handfuls of ketchup and the fucking chumps want 35c for a cucumber sauce.

Why? "Well you don't have anything to eat the cucumber sauce with"

Who the fuck do they think they are telling me I HAVE to eat ketchup with my fries. I pulled a fire in the hole - luckily I hadn't paid yet.
cucumber sauce... sigh

its something to do with a sliced bagel is prepared food, so its taxed whereas an unsliced one is not prepared, so no tax.
In South Carolina pre-sliced packaged meat is untaxed as "groceries" while the same meat sliced in the deli section of the same store is taxed as "prepared food"... there is little logic to some sales taxes.

Which doesn't make a whole lot of sense, but whatever.

I'm actually kind of surprised zinfamous didn't know that, I thought it was common Californian knowledge.

I will buy deli meat tomorrow to find out if its that way here too.

I don't agree with it but it makes sense.

if you receive hot food, it is considered "prepared" and you must pay tax on it, cold sandwiches do not qualify for this, and thus are not taxed for some reason

There's a certain chicken basket I order from a local pizza shop, and it comes with some sort of salad, but I always ask for extra fries instead of the salad and they always oblige.

6 one way, half a dozen the other I guess. Corporate policies FTL.

Why the fuck would you do that?

The store pissed me off enough to cause some minor mischief. I don't think thats very douchey, but it is a dick move. Definitely mean.

The look on the managers face when he realized what was happening - when he could have just given me the tzatziki sauce instead of ketchup and avoided it. I'm not defending myself here it was fucked up (and I was wrong to do it and I wouldn't do it today). Another time I had an actual legitimate complaint - the fuckers wouldn't give free refills, when it said right on the cup - free refills. (Those cost $0.25, take it up with corporate). I paid for it and then THEY paid for it.
