No one happy I didn't get a GTP? Would you get a 2002 Pontiac SuperCharged GTP loaded with everything over a Maxima?

<< I personally detest all supercharged cars. In terms of forced induction, turbocharging is much more elegant and efficient. Not to mention less expensive when it breaks! >>

Sorry, but I disagree. For one simple reason: TURBO LAG. Superchargers NEVER lag. How can you call that more elegant and efficient? You like having to rev up the engine to the redline in order to produce any power? I don't....
The GM 3.6 SC engine has been around a while in the form of a Bonneville SSEI. It's a proven engine. Don't worry about it blowing up on you.

I can't BELIEVE people think that the Maxima actually looks BETTER than the GTP! :Q More classy, maybe, but the same people who think this are the people buying your bland and extremely boring Camry. The Maxima looks like every other sedan out there except with incredibly ugly tail lights.

The interior is plasticy, but I like it still.

All doubters really need to DRIVE or at least ride in a GTP before you knock it so harshly. I'm not knocking the Maxima except in the looks department where it has gone downhill in the last few years.

My belief of why people pick the GTP over the Maxima are the simple fact that the GTP is MUCH more sporty in appearance. Appearance counts a LOT for sporty cars. The Maxima just looks like a sedan. I don't doubt the quality/reliability of the Maxima. That's been proven. But if that's what you are absolutely, positively, MOST concerned about, then get a Camry.
>>

While I agree with most of what you have said, not all turbo-equipped cars produce lag. Some cars with smaller turbos don't produce as much lag. Also Vortec supercharger kits do produce lag, not as much, but its there.

Yes the GTP looks nice, damn nice! And I love the HUD and the little LCD thing they have in the dash...granted it may not last long (my friend has it in his '93 Grand Prix..the compass feature of it doesn't work anymore).

Each car has their plus and minuses..best way is to drive it.

It's not just that, the SC unit is FAR cheaper then any hair dryer, plus turbo's are VERY known for heat under the hood, this causes stress cracks in all your rubbers like hoses and electrical wiring, not only that but the exhaust is a pain in the ass, tuning for Turbo's is also harder and more expensive if you have to have it done.

I can buy an entire S-trim Vortech SC for a 302 mustang for $1995 Brand NEW, bring on a full turbo kit and don't forget the complete exhaust as it ain't no bolt on like an SC, (this one is in the bag :D )

Edit, BTW my desighn of SUPERCHARGER produces boost starting at idle Seen here.................................

the maxima's engine might be rated the 10 best engines or whatever the hell but guess what? the engine in the pontiac is the good ol' buick 231 cubic in... that engine has been around for almost 30 years! I wonder which one is more refined!

Looks like I MAY be getting the GTP. The GTP looks better in general and I'm not worried about the gas, I've been using Octane 93 for my 97 Eclipse since I've owned it. After I grab some hot deals in a few hrs, I'm gonna go test drive one since I've only test drove the GT version.

I would rather have a smaller car, but oh well. The car I really wanted to buy a few months ago was the 2001 Honda Prelude, but they were just too rare.

I have the 2k2 Max and yes it does do mid 14's on the 1/4 mile track stock. Also, based on my recent dyno's this thing seems to be pumping out more torque than what Nissan claims (somewhere in the range of 260 lb/ft as opposed to the advertised 246). I don't know if i have a rare case or something is amiss but it's an awesome car nevertheless.

Price/features/class/reliability i'd go for the Max. If you're into amateur racing this will slap the GTP's stock *ss silly, so to speak :)

After posting my last message, I was driving home and saw a new white Maxima. I eyed it up pretty good as I passed it and confirmed what I said before. Looks like a family sedan next to a GTP. And GOD....they really f\/cked up those taillights! Those are like '98 Taurus looking taillights!

The funny thing is, I really liked the early 90's Maximas. Those were sweeeeet. Why why why did they put those taurus taillights on. :(

Pothead: If you take out a GTP for a test drive, at least once, be sure to coast along at about 30 mph, then stand on the gas. THAT is the difference between supercharged and N/A :D Too bad it's a FWD car.

I like both of these vehicles. I think however that the GP is more attractive. It has plenty of power...can be modified to deliver more boost and made to be VERY FAST. They are a bit more exclusive than the Maxima...I just dont see too many SC GP's..I do see tons of Maxima's though...

I'm f*cking steaming pissed off! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I HATE CAR SALESMEN!

I decided not to go for the hot deals at 7am and sleep in. I test drove a GTP at a dealership. This place had the car but I wasn't going to buy from them. Well their price was (msrp 28,500) 24,000 with trade and 0% financing for 3 yrs. The other dealership where my friend knows the owner, had told me they would sell it at 21,000 with trade and 0% financing. Pretty much we were set on the 0% and not the 1000 cash rebate. He goes off, a 20 yr old, to his boss. Comes back 30 mins later, telling me there was a f****ing typo!!!!!!!!!! Ok so he circles a final price of 21,939 + rebate + trade. My mother and I still assumed that it was 0%. So we left a deposit of $500 as he asked. Partly my mistake, I'll admit. A few hrs ago, I was going through the whole deal in my head seeing that something was not right. Then it came to me he tacked on the rebate to make the price lower when we had been talking all along about 0% financing. (Note: this dealership needs to locate the car).

It's crap when you're saying you're treating us like friends and family when you are only beating the competition by no more than a few hundred dollars!

Now I need to get my damn deposit back, think I'll go for the Maxima or Altima.

Deposits are refundable, I hope?

Just sick of GTPs right now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :|

ouch. although i didnt suggest the gtp, you should ignore the fact that dealers suck and stick with the car you want. just keep searching until you get the fair price

edit: also, ignore the dealer and anyone else around and take as much time as you need to read and understand things clearly. dont let them pressure you. come prepared. pretend you're gambling hehe. stay calm and consistent =D

Sounds as if you're inexperienced with car salesmen, eh? Beware the salesmen's "gotta go check this out with the boss" scam! Its a classic.

Bottom line, if he cannot give you EVERY thing he told you, say 'thanks' and go somewhere else. This isn't a good time to buy cars anyway, I just saw a report that said car sales in October were rather brisk because the interest rates are so low. Dealers are NOT hurting right now, but they will be in a couple months.

Car salesmen are out for a buck. No matter how nice they seem they don't give a sh*t about you. Just remember that!

nissan put the 4 cylinder path finder engine in the 2001 altima. i drive one, its kinda rough, but its a big engine for that class of car, since its pretty much a honda civic competitor.

the new altima, has the engine that the new maxima and that the upcoming 350z will use. the non v6 altima might have the non v6 pathfinder engine though, the sentra se-r uses that one too.

Sup all, here's an update:

The deal was gonna be done by tomorrow. They were gonna bring the car down tomorrow at 10am from another dealership. 2002 Grand Prix SuperCharged GTP with BOSE, High polished rims, powered sunroof, headsup display, onstar, leather, the works.

So I get a call, the sales guy tells me, the final price is $23,062 with your trade and 0.0% for 36 months (or I can take $1000 rebate). He said he had to tack on:

Advertising: $278.90
Buyout from other dealership: $500
And he tells me the BOSE doesn't come with it now: extra $345.00

This is still cheaper by about 1000 from the other dealerships. My parents said to kill the deal and get our deposit back. The price keeps changing. The guys in the office say they will pay the 500 buyout costs. My parents say screw them. They gave the same car to my best friend's brother at a better price. The guys there weren't too thrilled.

I bet the Maxima fans are happy!

Back to looking at the Maximas and Altimas....how are bimmers? ;)

BTW: I bought my first car and helped my mother buy a 99 camry 2 yrs ago so I'm not too much of a noob but I have a lot to learn though.

You just need to find another Pontiac dealer, the one you're dealing with doesn't sound too hot. Service before and after the deal is a consideration. Also, there is no reason for them to be charging you an advertising fee, and $500 for retrieval is too much - $150-200 is the normal. Report these guys to Pontiac divisional if you wanna get even. ;)

Once you find yourself the GTP you want at another dealership, PM me and I will get you another $500 back on top of whatever deal you settle on with them. This is an independant referral program we have on right now and doesn't affect your eligibiliy on the other incentives (ie, it's "stackable" on top of them).
